Advantages Advantages woke up more of the general population to the idea of "kink" as fun sex play

I deal with erotica on a daily basis. It's no huge secret- I translate Japanese manga and light novels, and the majority of the titles I've worked on have been classified as erotica. I also review many, many titles, both manga as well as prose novels, that come under that classification. There are a good many more that I read for pleasure, both LGBT as well as hetero, and after awhile of being exposed to so many different books by so very many different authors, one comes to appreciate the well plotted and well written. The sorting of the merely good to the great can be further pared down by ... more

Advantages Advantages great characters, makes you feel part of the story, bit of filth

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sex scenes may be a bit much for some

One night I get a message on my Blackberry from one of my friends that says “You like reading right?” to which I reply “Yes…..” wondering where this is all going and she informs me that she has been reading a book which she thinks I will like but it is a bit “mucky” (her words not mine!) She went on to tell me that the author had apparently taken some inspiration from Twilight which I adore and so I took the plunge and bought fifty shades of grey by EL James. I have to say I hadn’t heard much about the book until my friend mentioned it but having looked online I have seen that in some places ... more

I have decided that for as long as the amusement factor continues at work I will continue to keep a copy of Fifty Shades of Grey in open view on my desk. This book is the only reason I have had a series of completely unsolicited conversations with senior members of staff about the logistics of BDSM sex. On occasions complete with actions, this is of course exactly the conversation you want to be having with your line manager. I do not know what it is about the book and it may be the most diabolical piece of fiction ever written but it has brought about some of the most peculiar social ... more

Advantages Advantages A good not put wanting to put down book... Full of sex!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Might be too much sex for some

I don’t know where on Earth I was when these books first came out, because I normally get hold of books like this pretty quickly after they come out. Think someone has been withholding information from me, or wait it might be something to do with university taking up all the time I have… However when I got on my latest placement these books were being passed around the staff room at a great rate of knots – and well I needed something to do in the evenings now my fella is away so I decided can’t beat getting lost in a good book… Especially these ones… Who is E L James? Erika Leonard as she is ... more

Advantages Advantages Great characters, good story, a little raunchy.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Terrible writing style, some parts lacked imagination.

I have recently started reading bucketloads of novels after a long period of only reading textbooks and research papers as part of my degree so when I finally managed a small respite in my workload I downloaded the kindle app on my iPad along with multiple books I couldn't wait to get stuck into. However I had noticed the title '50 Shades Of Grey' creeping up all over my Facebook and being me I wanted to know what all the fuss was about and so I bought the first book in the trilogy from Amazon which was only £2.69 and was instantly delivered ready for me to start reading. I'll be honest and ... more

It seems everyone had something to say about 50 shades trilogy and I found people either loved it or hated it so I decided to give in and see what all the fuss was about so when I came across all three books for £10 in Asda I purchased them. When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, there is an instant attraction but she tries to shake it off not knowing that he found her just as interesting. As they get to know each other it is clear they both have different needs so will they ever be able to be together? It is classed as erotica but also ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages There are only 3 books

Book Worm When it comes to reading books I tend to stick to familiar territories such as crime thrillers and the odd political biography, something I can get my teeth into and something that keeps me on the edge of my seat. I also like the odd chick-lit novel but I am a bit choosy as to who the author is and tend to stick to 3 or 4 of whom I have read a lot of. Can it really be THAT good? Just over a week ago a friend of mine messaged me and said I had to read 'Fifty Shades of Grey' because I would love it and that it was the best book she had ever read. A bit of a tall order I thought, I mean ... more
