Advantages: Long, emotional, funny, good characters Disadvantages: None
This book, written by Maeve Binchy, was first published in 1997. I first read it when I was about 15, but had forgotten most of the content. As I've read everything that Binchy has written I thought it was time to go back and start them all again!
THE AUTHOR:
Binchy comes from and lives in Ireland. Nearly all of her books are set in Ireland. She was once a journalist and now writes novels full time.
AVAILABILITY:
I often find Binchy's work in ... ...for 50p! The book sells on book websites and is on Amazon for £5.59 (from 1p used). RRP is £6.99.
CONTENT:
The book is lovely and long. My paperback version is over 750 pages. For me this is an advantage, I don't like books that end just as you get into them, I like to lose myself in a book.
The story centres around two families, the Ryans and the O'Neils, and is set in the small town of Montfern in the 1960s. In the town there is an old house ...

Advantages: a good plot and realistic characters. Disadvantages: weepy in some places, but not slushy.
Firefly summer is a novel set in Ireland in the sixties. Fernscourt is an old stately home that was burnt down in the "troubles" and has since been a playground to the local children.
Dara and Micheal Ryan, two twins from the pub, are completely happy ...

Advantages: fantastic book with really believable charactors Disadvantages: none
this book is set in ireland in the 1970s and follows the lives of the inhabitants of a small village called Mount Fern. In typical Maeve Binchy style, the chapters alternate between the experiences, opinions and secrets of the main charactors; the young twins Micheal and Dara O Brian, their parents, John and Kate and the local Bacholar lawyer,Fergus. Through these charactors (although Binchy always narrates in the omniscent 3rd person) we learn about ... ...When, fairly near the beginning of the book, a hard headed American business man moves into the village with his two teenage children the lives of the villagers are turned upside down. For this man, hell bent on rediscovering his irish "roots", is about to renovate his old family house tranforming it into a hotel. This project has widespread consequences and unknown to himself the lives of everyone in the comunity are altered forever. ...

Advantages: Absolutely Fantastic Disadvantages: It ended!!
This is an excellent written by Maeve Binchy. It is set in Ireland, in a small place called Mountfern. The main characters are a family called the Ryans, although many other characters are brought into the story. The story tells how the people of Mountfern cope when 'the American' comes to Mountfern and begins to change everything they know and love. As with other Maeve Binchy books you are drawn into the story without even realising it and begin ...
