This book, written by Maeve Binchy, was first published in 1997. I first read it when I was about 15, but had forgotten most of the content. Firefly summer is a novel set in Ireland in the sixties. The pricliple characters are a family, the Ryans who own a small pub in a small village that is soon to loose it's livelyhood to a big american hotel that's to be opened in the grounds of Fernscourt. this book is set in ireland in the 1970s and follows the lives of the inhabitants of a small village called Mount Fern. This is an excellent written by Maeve Binchy. It is set in Ireland, in a small place called Mountfern. The main characters are a family called the Ryans, although many other characters are brought into the story. The story tells how the people of Mountfern cope when 'the American' comes to Mountfern and begins to change everything they know and love.
