Advantages: Cheap and Basic Disadvantages: Get what you pay for
I have bought First Call GB breakdown cover for two years running having price comparison-ed them using moneysupermarket.com. I have only had need to call them once following a brake failure on the way to work. I was close enough that I though it better to nurse the car to work (in first gear and at 10mph) and park against a wall rather than risk leaving it unsecured on a busy through road in the city. I made the call to First Call and was put through ... ...very differently. So far First Call have done everything I have asked them to, and it does give me peace of mind knowing I can get the car to a garage if something should go wrong. (But I'm sure little car won't let me down... see my emotional review of the fiesta!) At the moment there is only myself and my partner to worry about, but when our family grows I will probably look into buying more reliable cover.
Overall:
Good for basic Get-You-To-A-Garage ...

...two weeks ago for the first time in three years when my 5 year old micra would not start. The lady that came out to me jump started the car but could not test if it was the battery as had lost the equipment for testing. Never the less assured me it would not be the battery as the dashboard battery light indicated it was fine, and just one of those things Today the car would not start again so called First Call again. Was told that could not come ... ...never told in first place what problem was. Then spoke to extremely hostile and unhelpful Supervisor who refused to give me her second name. Was told that at time of first callout operator would have advised me to take car to garage afterwards to check it over which most certainly was not the case or would have done so. Then she told me she could guarantee I would have been told this to which I asked how she could guarantee this when not privy to ...

I took out First Call breakdown because they seemed good value for money. When my car refused to start I called them out. A mechanic appeared within around 45 mins and made a good attempt to start the vehicle. When he couldn't he advised me that I book the car into a local garage and that I call First Call a few days later to have the car taken to the garage. I even confirmed that they would do that, to which he said " yes no problem" When I phoned ... ...they would only give their first name and refused to give their surname. They did not seem to give a hoot about my total dissatisfaction or that I would never use them again, which should concern any quality company. I had been with them for 3 years and this was the first time that I had ever used them so a little leeway would have been nice, but no.
They are a budget company that run a budget service. The old adage "pays your money take your choice" ...

I had been with First Call for a few years without breaking down as I kept blindly renewing cover without ever suspecting their service would be so useless. Then my engine blew up on the motorway about 30 miles from home! I had two small children (8 & 5) with me and the weather was appalling. After contacting First Call a recovery truck arrived within the hour and the driver said the vehicle was beyond economical repair, but First Call had told him ... ...opposite direction. I rang First Call and said that the fault was obviously not repairable and please would they take us home but they said my opinion was irrelevant as I was not a mechanic and the vehicle had to be assessed first. So, we ended up 10 miles further away from our destination in a rural location where we had to wait 4 hours until a mechanic had the time to look at the car to confirm it could not be repaired. Quick review of First Call GB
I was left stranded at night as my key was stuck in my car door.
They refused to even send recovery out to me as it was not a mechanical fault so was left to walk 3 miles home in the dark. The person I spoke to refused to give me their surname.
I asked them to cancel my cover and refund me my money, but was told they do not refund any money and that I should have read the small print in my document. They have cancelled my membership without any courtesy notification of cancellation.
I have now joined one of the better known companies (with the yellow trucks)
It proves that you get what you pay for! ...

I can only echo the other feedback, please do not be attracted by the price. Effectively this is a waste of premium and you would be better off going with someone else and actually having the piece of mind of proper cover. You have been warned! ...

...gave my card details to First Call. I can only assume that either they are very discourteous and cannot provide me with a response or they are re-writing the policy! All I can say is DON'T MAKE FIRST CALL YOUR FIRST CALL! TRY OTHER, BETTER COMPANIES FIRST ...
