Advantages: tough, easy to use, practical, creative and fun Disadvantages: quite expensive
It was my daughter's fourth birthday the other day and as always we struggled to decide what to buy her for a present - I mean, what do you buy a little girl who has so many toys already? Anyway, I was browsing on the Early Learning Centre website looking for inspiration when I came across the Fisher Price digital camera! Ah ha! I thought, this could be just the thing especially as my daughter has always had a worrying fascination with her Daddy's ... ...photos with that! What's more, I could get this Fisher Price digital camera in pink!
Now, I have to tell you that this camera is not cheap - at £60 it really was at the top end of what I wanted to pay (but being members of the ELC birthday club we did get 20% off which made the price much more manageable!) However, for this money you have to realise that you are not buying a toy but a real camera which can do most of the things that any digital ...

My 5-year-old son loves to use my digital camera and so for Christmas I decided to buy him one of his own. I wanted a child friendly camera that would be tough enough to withstand some abuse yet still function like a real camera. I decided on the Fisher Price Kid tough digital camera after reading a positive review on this site.
The next thing was to find the camera at the best possible price. However to my dismay this camera was out of stock at ... ...Lewis. I eventually located one at Boots .com for just under £60. So was it money well spent?
What's in the box?
*******************
It was with great excitement that my son opening his presents on Christmas morning. He was immediately impressed with his new camera. It isn't the easiest of packaging to open! The box contains the camera, clear instructions, a strap, and a USB cable to connect to your computer. There are also 4 AA batteries and ...

Advantages: Keeps kids amused for ages, great range of features, very tough and durable Disadvantages: Batteries run out quick, picture quality not great
I'd seen the adverts on TV for these cameras quite a while before Christmas, they first became available in 2006, but I hadn't really noticed until the run up to Christmas that they were around. When I first saw it, I must admit I couldn't believe they had made a digital camera for kids! Wow, whatever next. They'll be making real working mobile phones for three year olds next!
Turns out this isn't the first time Fisher Price have launched a camera ... ...a very popular idea apparently.
So, I thought I'd buy for my little girl, she loves anything that makes her feel like a grown up, she also loves to figure out how to work things which makes this toy ideal for her. I live in the middle of nowhere so it was internet Christmas shopping for me this year - I love E-Bay so thought I'd have a look on there for it. Anyway, I found a very durable looking Fisher Price Kid Tough Digital Camera in pink (brand ...

Advantages: It is tough and waterproof. Disadvantages: Not really good enough quality to be used as a digital camera.
As the title suggests I am not a huge fan of this product. For the price you would expect to get a digital camera that is strong enough to survive your child. What you infact get is a large chunk of plastic that is tough and waterproof, so more like a paper weight or doorstop. You certainly do not get a digital camera. The picture quality is pointless, 1.3mp is just not worth having. I did wonder if it was my daughter, so gave her our old 5mp camera ... ...The first 1 she had we sent back as it was leaving a mark across the bridge of her nose due to having to push the button so hard to take a photo. They sent another camera out and it does indeed seem to have fixed that problem. The 2nd 1 seems to shut itself off straight away and you need to turn it on several times before it stays on. In honesty this does not matter as the camera is useless anyway. I phoned Fisher Price again and made a complaint ...

I was dubious about spending so much money on a camera for my four year old son, after all its great that he won't be able to break it but at nearly £50 for a camera with so few megapixels could it ever be worth it? It turns out that the lack of megapixels is not the problem with this camera at all. The major flaw is the shutter speed. It takes so long for a photo to be taken that it is incredibly difficult for me to keep the camera still enough ...
