Flextel

When searching for personal number providers a couple of years ago, I came across Flextel. In addition to providing numbers beginning 07010 (I believe they own this entire prefix), they have recently obtained all numbers beginning 0870321 and are allowing these to be registered. This gives you the option of having an alternative number for your landline that does not disclose your location and is more memorable. Flextel offer a wonderful facility. Using this service you can register an account and attach a number of personal numbers to it. The personal numbers begin 07010 and you can choose from the numbers they have left (except the really good/memorable ones which they understandably charge for). You can then set these numbers to forward to your mobile phone or landline and there is no charge to you. The caller does however have to pay a slight premium over normal mobile phone calls (the profit from which goes to Flextel to maintain this service). We've had a range of Felxtel 07010 and 0870 numbers for at least three years now and have no complaints whatsoever with their service. I can't think of a single occasion that the service has been down in that time. Updating of the redirection can be done via their national rate number 0870 321 0000, which makes it cheap and easy to do with a touch tone phone. Unfortunately, they have wised up to the value of the more regular or palindromic sounding numbers eg. 123 123, so these are only available on a purchased basis, but if you look hard enough there are some pretty good free numbers still ... more
