I have had the Fluval no 2 for 5 years, now and have found it to be a very reliable and efficient filter. It is suitable for a 3x2 feet tank. It is easy to maintain (just rinse out sponge in warm water), and keeps the tank very clean. The sponge needs replacing every year I find but overall it's low cost and easy maintainance make it ideal for the beginner. I used this filter in my 2'x3' tank for about 3 years before my very ancient goldfish died and then put it away in a cupboard for a couple of years before deciding to get more fish. When I set my tank up again the filter worked perfectly after a quick clean and a new sponge and 6 months on I'm still really pleased with it's performance.
This filter is very quiet and easy to maintain. Every few weeks you need to remove the sponge and rinse it in ... ...in tap water you will remove the "helpful bacteria" which helps to make fish waste safe.
About every three to six months I replace half of my sponge and the replacement sponges are very reasonably priced at under £5 for a pack of 2.
An added bonus is that the exhaust outlet for the cleaned water sits just under the surface of the water creating a great slipstream which my fish appear to love swimming in. So they a clean tank and a cool water ride ...
