When cutting the lawn through the warmer months, there are always those grassy areas around the trees, or flower pots and shrubs that you can't quite get your lawnmower right up to to cut the grass, ending up with those long unsightly tufts of grass in these areas. The only way around it is to either cut the tufts down with a pair of scissors or shears (very time consuming and laborious) or use an electric trimmer, and this is where this Flymo Power Trim 500 comes into play with me. For years I have used a variety of trimmers around the garden to give that finishing touch to the edges of the ... more

Advantages Advantages Light, Easy to Use, Trim and Tidy Edges,Cheaper

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as powerful as petrol, Need a power supply

Never thought I would write a review of a strimmer but here I go anyway. My old man always had a big loud and heavy petrol trimmer at home and I grew up with that but in my house the garden is not half as huge as his and I felt that splashing out a pile of money on a petrol one would be overkill! So I borrowed a friends battery powered trimmer, after the battery died leaving half the garden still a raging pile of grass edges I went out and bought this baby. And what a pleasure trimming the garden is now! The first thing is that it is really light, I guess that due to be constructed from ... more

Advantages Advantages Great ability, noise level and maintainable capability.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not any!

Not all gardens are suited to being maintained by a traditional, flat running lawn mower. There can be awkward, difficult to reach areas which the perfectionists of the task find MUST be chopped, trimmed and shaped to the highest standard, despite the fact their often completely out of sight! For carrying out trims on areas like these, as well as unusual, curving terrain, the 'Flymo Power Trim 500' comes into play excellently. It utilises an electric motor fuelled via a cable connected to the mains (like most Flymo models), and therefore it could be argued that the 500 is a more efficient ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

Well, with this hot sizzling summer in full flow, I decided a few weeks back to upgrade my heavy old rusty garden edge cutters for a more modern option - an electric power trim, in the hope that it would make the job a lot easier for me. My gardens are not the biggest by any stretch of the imagination, but after spending 45 minutes pushing the mower around in this heat, the last thing I want to do afterwards is spend another 30 minutes clipping the edges with those rusty old things. I spent a few minutes looking around the internet at a few different models, and was pleasantly surprised at the ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice weight, comfortable to hold

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Breaks too easily

It wasn't long ago when we bought the power trim. We had just finished cutting the grass in the garden, but couldn't do the edges, so the same day, we went out and bought this. When we got home, I got straight to work on the grass, after setting up the wires and reel underneath, which was very easy. At first, it worked very well. The edge of one side of our garden looked just as good as the middle. Then the problems started. The first thing that happened was the wires kept coming out and getting too long and so were constantly hitting the plastic part that it there for protection. A few shards ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages the cord that cuts the grass is rubbish.and costs alot to buy new cord

I myself have this Flymo Power Trim 500.Its very easy to use very light weight .It works really good untill the cord underneath breaks it is a bit hard to put the cord back on to use it again.I myself use this Power Trim 500 the only fault i have with it the cord breaks about 5 times every time i use it.And it takes so long to fix it again to reuse it for to finish your garden.I have had mine for 1 year now and bought 3 reals of cord i would be cheaper buying a new Trimmer.all you do is click the button on the handle and your away trimming. But the instructions for reading is fairly hard you ... more
