Ford Capri 3.0

Advantages: Low down power
Disadvantages: Fuel Consumption

...sold until 1981 the 3.0 Ford Capri was an outstanding car. It was the closest thing that the UK ever had to an American Muscle Car. At 120ish mph it was extremely fast but it's strength lay in the tremendous low-down torque. It's 173lbft at 3000 rpm and one and a quarter ton kerbweight gave it tyre smoking ability to compete with a V8. When i was a kid i always whanted a Capri.At the age of 19 a got my first,only a 1.6GL,but being a mechanic soon turned it into a 2.1.It was the longest i ever kept a car,i had it for 3yrs untill some old fart of a drunk driver ran into it.I have had no fewer than 7 capri,s since. Including 2, 3.0s the first being a 1977 3.0 GHIA with only a 4speed manual gearbox.Very quick for a old car,but despratly needed a 5th gear.That was way back in 1985 ...
...fun in a car.Most of the local boy racers had XR3i s at that time,no compertition my 3.0 used to eat em.It even out handeled them to with the suspension lowerd,still lethal in the wet though hence the big writeoff.I totaly killed it and verry nealy myself. I had one or two cars after including a Fiat Abarth 130,Lancia Beta 2.0,Rover V8 ect.But soon ended up with another Capri only a 2.0 though. Now years latter at the age of 38 and with two kids ...
