Advantages Advantages Shifty, a fast paced motor

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive to drive in

The Escort is an honest member of any family, and I hear you say why? Well, its a drug to the young tuners, it’s a seat for the older learners and it’s a car for the high-earners! With my Corsa sold, and my Seat off the road, I used my dad’s car to drive to Leicester and back the other weekend! It was a costly experience, believe me, but unique. FRIDAY NIGHT: Friday night I asked my Dad if I could use his Escort to get to Leicester and back as he can use his 4x4! Reluctantly he said yes! and in a way I was saying NO! I couldn’t use my brothers because he’s away ... more

    Advantages Advantages Looks, Performance

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of Ford Dealership Support

Yeah they are unreliable at times, noisy down the motorway, Recaro's uncomfortable on long journeys, and insurance absolutely shameful, but you just cant beat them if its good fun your after in a car... Personally buying my RS was a dream cometrue having wanted one since the age of 16.. bought mine a year ago at 22. A 90 spec version on a H plate it cost me 4 grand from a dealer and although people always say never buy the first you see.... i did and have never regretted doing so. one downside being lack of Ford Dealership help... dont count on it.. they just dont want to know about ... more

Advantages Advantages Rare, Tuneable, Desirable and Fast

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Addictive

I`ve owned a black 1988 series 2 for 9 years now and it just keeps getting better. Every year they bring out faceless, soulless plastic cars and the RST just looks better. It`s so tuneable and 200 bhp is easily achievable on the series 2 as they were de-tuned from the factory for road use. All you need is a new fuel management chip (Ahmed Bayjoo chips are by far the best), a -31 actuator to increase the boost (series 2`s can easily handle 1 bar( or 15psi) unlike the fragile series 1 engines) and a decent exhaust and a high lift cam will see you with at least 180 bhp. This amount of power in a ... more

Advantages Advantages modifyable, good looking, fast

    Disadvantages Disadvantages dear to run

Last year I bought a H reg Escort RS Turbo and "I LOVE IT". Its fast its reliable and it looks amazing. I paid £3000.00 and it was the best money I have every spent. I have added a full system scorpion exhaust, a pipercross induction kit, a gorgeous souding dump valve and dropped it on its arse. It looks the business and sounds it too. I would recommend any young person to buy one of these cars. I admit because it gas been lowered it isn't the comfiest of cars but it's cool to drive. The RS Turbo is an attention seeking car and mine defintely gets the attention it wants. If you are looking for ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick Quick and Quicker

Disadvantages Disadvantages Noisy noisy and Noisier still!!!

When I was younger I always wanted to own a Ford Escort RS Turbo. When I was 25 I finally realised my dream and bought a clapped out G reg Black RS Turbo. What a shed and to think I sold my K Reg Fiesta RS 1800I to get it!!!It was quick but noisy, unreliable kept breaking down, etc. I bought a K & N air filter for it and it was exactly the same but noisier!!! No more performance!!!I sold it to some mug in the end for 3 grand which cheered me up no end. I now have a Nissan Primera which is comfy and large. Its a bit slow though!!! ... more

Advantages Advantages Can be modified to the max

    Disadvantages Disadvantages High fuel consumption

Ever since I learnt to drive I always wanted a high performance car. I started with a 1600I Orion, which i thought was nice, then upgraded to a XR3I. A little while into having the 3I someone offered me the Turbo which at the time was complety standard. It really was allot faster than I was used to and the engine purred when started. After a while I started to reallise all the modifications that can be done. Even when standard the car goes well and looks great. After having her lowered, chipping her up and completely modifying her she goes even better, she drives well and looks very good. When ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap and cheerful

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Styling a Ford Escort is dead easy, and for young drivers wanting a good looking but cheap to afford car, the Escort is the obvious choice. With models starting at 1.1 litres, it is easy to get insured for little. Ford's CVH engine was a masterful piece of engineering, and as such is easy to maintain, and provides good efficient service. As for cosmetic styling, there are lots of options. Many companies provide cheap bodykit parts, such as RS Turbo bumpers, etc, or these can be found from a breakers yard. Another option is to smooth off your standard grey plastic bumpers and spray them to ... more

Advantages Advantages excellent handling, high speed, good looks, great spec

Disadvantages Disadvantages attractive to "tea leaves", can be expensive to maintain

I used to own a Radiant red escort Rs Turbo Series 2, 1989 model, this is one of the most fun cars I have ever driven. It has a lot of goodies as standard ie:- recaro seats, rear spoiler and body skirt kit, 15" alloys, an adjustable windscreen wiper speed (brilliant when driving at speed in the rain), sports steering wheel etc. Handles like a dream, as i put Koni suspension on this gave a firm ride but still in the comfort zone, would benefit from power steering But less fun!. A good alarm immobiliser is a must this car is a stunner and can be attractive to the "odd tea leaf"! The RS is a real ... more
