Feeble? Frail? Flimsy? Not my Fiesta!

Advantages: Cheap Tax, Plenty of MPG, Reliable
Disadvantages: Basic, Ride can be uncomfortable if you drive like me!

...it isn't, but my 5-door Ford Fiesta Encore Mk4 1.3l is no sports car. I am unable to afford a car of my own and accordingly share this with my father. I simpy pay my insurance, half the cost of maintenance and (the very expensive) petrol I use. Unusually, I've experienced this car in different ways to most people because it puts up with two people constantly using it, and now my younger brother has just begun to learn to drive, it's burdened with ...

...be better. What is Ford Fiesta? Well if you have never heard of the Ford Fiesta you should be ashamed of yourself. They have been around since the 70’s and millions upon millions have lived and died. The Fiesta was produced to rival such cars as the Austin Metro and Renault 4. A Fiesta is a small car mainly designed for city transport and in no way is it designed to be a motorway cruiser. In my opinion the Fiesta is a good-looking car and ...
...region of £90 at a Ford dealer. The new Fiestas are very reliable so don’t expect to have to fork out money for repairs. The cabin in the Fiesta is quite dull with nothing to make it stand out from the crowd. Interior loos quite plasticy but most of the switches and controls are made well so I am assured build quality is to a high standard. The rear space is poor especially when compared with some of its rivals e.g. Skoda Fabia. I like the ...

Ford Fiesta Fun 1.29 - 2001 (UP-DATED)

Advantages: Cost efficient to run and very reliable
Disadvantages: Can take a while to build up speed, especially when carrying weight

...really go wrong with a Ford Fiesta, in whatever model you are considering. Obviously price will vary by a few grand dependent upon engine capacity, but I know 10-12 Ford Fiesta owners who have all been more than satisfied with the performance their cars provide. I recall when I was researching the purchase of a car, I spoke to a local garage owner who was trying to sell a Rover of some sort ... after viewing the car, I mentioned that I had pretty ...
...ugly in a car. Ford Fiesta's come in a range of different colours, with the option of metallic paint work as well - usually at an additonal cost. The interior is usually cream or grey. They are also a small to mid-sized car, which means they can fit into pretty much most spaces with ease. So, car parking is an absolute doddle, especially as your gunning position, sorry ... driving position is at a fairly decent height and not too low to the floor, ...

Go Large or Stay Small

Advantages: cheap to buy and run
Disadvantages: no luxury or class

...Neon - I wanted a Ford Escort - we ended up with a Ford Mondeo. If you have read my Mondeo op, you will know that I am actually pleased with my new car (apologies if I repeat bits of it). But I still wonder from time to time whether another Fiesta would have been more suitable. Over the last week, I have had the perfect opportunity to compare both cars. On Thursday last week our car went into the garage to be repaired following a recent road accident ...
...new Ford Fiesta Fun. Then on Monday this week, I hired a car to go to a software user group meeting with work and this car was also a brand new Fiesta. Switching between the Fiesta and Mondeo enabled me to experience for myself the differences between these two cars. So if you are thinking of buying a Ford car or any car for that matter and you are not sure whether to 'go large' or small, below is a brief comparison of the pros and cons of both the ...

End of the line... almost.

Advantages: Cheap to buy, cheap on fuel, cheap parts, cheap everything really.
Disadvantages: Engine from circa 1959, chassis from 1989, really should have been a whole new car.

By the time that Ford saw fit to further swell it's ranks with the Mk5 Fiesta, Britain's favourite supermini in it's previous incarnations was already popular as Pot Noodle in every town, street corner and driveway in the country. The boxy Mk1 from the seventies evolved into the slightly less boxy Mk2, which was replaced in 1989 by the all new Mk3, which was in turn facelifted and became the Mk4 which looked more like a shoe than a car. So with the ...
...sheet of paper, someone at Ford decided that there was life in the old dog yet, and that a subtle update to the old car was preferable to concieving and developing a whole new model. Now, had the previous car been ahead of it's time and packed with innovative ideas, another facelift may have done the trick for the jellymould Fiesta, but as previously mentioned, the car was essentially the same as when it was released as the Mk3 in 1989. Subtle tweaks ...

A great city car.

Advantages: Nippy and economical.
Disadvantages: Spartan interior and noisy at higher speeds.

...free insurance when financed through Ford credit. The 1300 engine and light overall weight makes the car very nippy and the handling is very responsive. The Fiesta LX is only a small car but is similarly shaped to the Focus and consequently quite roomy inside - I am 6' tall and there was plenty of head room. All round visibility is excellent making parking the car a doddle. One slight niggle is the side view mirrors are small compared to other ...
...The Fiesta being a baby Ford doesn't have the same level of noise dampening as the Focus and Mondeo hence the road noise. The interior is OK but with the shape of the car giving it a roomy feel it seems Ford could have put more into it and filled it out a bit better. Saying that one of the accessories came into its own this morning, the heated front windscreen lifted a heavy frost in less than three minutes. The Fiesta LX is in one of the lowest ...

The Post-March 1994 Mark III 1.3i Fiesta

Advantages: Economical, lively and reliable
Disadvantages: Not the most individual car out there

This date in Fiesta build history provides marked improvements over earlier models. Having moved from a 1.1LX MkIII H Reg Fiesta to a newer, albeit still getting on a bit L Reg 1.3i Fiesta I cannot believe the improvements in the drive of the car when they are supposed to be of equal calibre, and also the way that the drive compares with newer cars in its class. Instantly the Fiesta is given a bit of life using the 1.3 engine, yet any Mark III Fiesta ...
...a much better buy for anyone looking out for a good small second hand car. Catalytic convertors come as standard, as does drivers air bags (passenger/power steer sometimes installed as option). There are numerous small touches to the interior and exterior such as colour coded covered petrol covers and nicer shaped mirrors. Immobiliser and alarm are also pre fitted. From a structural point of view the ride is tighter and the vehicle corners better ...

...my car - a silver ford fiesta flight 1.3. After wanting the newer ford models and planning to save up and buy a different car for about 6 weeks i suddenly changed my mind after realising I actually loved the car I had and would be ever so sad to see it go. It will cost about 30 -35 quid (depending on the petrol prices) to fill up my car and it will last for about 2 weeks and thats with around an hours worth of driving everyday. I would recommend this car to any first time drivers out there because it's simple, reliable and very lovable. I dont want to think about buying a newer car model anymore lol. Will ...

My First Car......

Advantages: Cheap, spirited, stylish
Disadvantages: Its a Ford

...nice stereo, as the standard Ford unit lacks power and depth of sound. I chose a Fiesta because they look fantastic. Despite it being 6 years old the style still lives in the MK5 series. The dash was surprisingly attractive for an 11 year old design. The engine was simple, easy for maintenance and repairs and my mum had had a few, so my dad was happy (No SR Nova for me). Driving the car was a pleasure. Slow, but still fun. It tops out at 99.9mph, ...
...not seconds, but if you put it into a corner, the under steer could be minimized and some real fun could be had. Harsh driving wasn’t too thirsty either, with £23 going 300 miles. Breaking was a little hairy at times, especially in wet conditions, but driven sensibly, this would not be a problem. The steering was effortless, everywhere except in car parks. My sister managed though so it cant be too heavy (she’s only little bless!). The only gripe ...

A Ford to be reckoned with

Advantages: Cheap to run, great driving position, surprisingly roomy
Disadvantages: Plasticy finish, could benefit from more 'oomph'

...can unequivocally say: Bravo Ford - a small car for 4 adults. Now for the drawbacks. When I first bought the car I had a whistling problem. The seal round the windscreen wasn't set properly and, as a result, the car whistled as I approached 70mph. Apparently this was a frequent problem with the first few batches off the assembly line. To their credit, the warranty covered it and it was fixed in a day. I'm sure this issue will have been resolved ...

Ford does not shine for me

Advantages: Handling
Disadvantages: Engine, cheap feel

...but for me - the Ford Fiesta isn`t my cup of tea. I am talk about the brand new version of course - but the older ones also get a similar thumbs down too. The heater works great, the gearchange is nice, it has a good stereo and all the controls are nicely to hand. Read a car mag, such as What Car? and they will be in orgasm over the siting of the stereo (you don`t have to take your eyes off the road, etc.) I am sure the electrics won`t fail. Economy ...
...a cheap feel to it. Ford have used cheap materials, old parts - drab dashboards built in bulk, for example. 2: total lack of character - you would not give this car a name, for example. 3: and the worst thing of all. This car handles well but why is the engine so unrefined and gutless? Why is this engine still in production? How do they get away with it? How have they got away with it in the past? Didn`t they learn from the 1990 Escort experience. ...

insurance deal great for youngsters

Advantages: free insurance is useful, nice car
Disadvantages: cig lighter stays on

Compared to the old style fiesta, the styling of the car is far better and the build quality is far superior. The road handling is very good for a car in its class, and although the car is not particularly fast it gets you out of most tricky situations. The free insurance deal is very useful for younger drivers, and is available for any driver 17+ although some of the excess charges are quite high. The only frustration is the cigarette lighter adapter, ...

Cheap, first car!

Advantages: Economical, Cheap to Run, Easy to Sell
Disadvantages: Branded a 'girlie' car!

This car is ideal for a young person like myself (19 years old) who cannot believe nor afford the scandalous insurance quotes we receive for driving a low-grouped-insurance car. The main selling point for me was the two years free insurance. After going to several insurance companies trying to obtain a quote for a L reg old fiesta, third party only, I was quoted in the region of £1000 for a year! Therefore the two years free insurance, as you can ...
...buying from brand new, there are no MOTs to worry about for the first three years! Mine is under warranty for the next year, with an option of a further two years for £150 to £200. I was rather surprised about the power of the car. Admittedly you are unlikely to be doing 0 - 62 mph in less than 15 seconds, but you don't have to worry about being overtaken by a 40 tonne haulage lorry (as i did)! Another pleasant surprise was the economy value of ...
