An Oldie, But A Goodie

Advantages: Cheap To Run, Reliable 300k+ Engine
Disadvantages: Noisy, Sluggish, Not As Refined As Rivals

Fiestas, and me, we're in a love, I can't get enough of them, and I've purchased a 97 1.8D to get me to college and back, (about a 60 mile round trip each day.) Now, I am a die hard petrol head, but the 50+MPG appealed, its a Fiesta, its Blue, I thought, I'll love it. Me and "Sooty" fell out pretty quickly, after jumping out a mk4 1.4 Zetec into a mk4 1.8 diesel, I promtply revved the nuts out of the engine and nearly blew it up on the way home. ...
...but....." It struggled to get to sixty in two miles of clear, straight road, and the soot pouring out the back was causing people to flash their headlights at me. One new exhaust and EGR valve later, (EGR valves are common fault on these engines,) she ran a lot more smoothly, and when she's "warm and wound up," she's not to much of a slug, but far from quick, or even nippy. The engine is supposed to run out of steam at about 96MPH, I've never driven ...

...other consumables in accordance with ford and i buy the parts from Halfords. Timing belts should be changed every 70 miles according to FORD, this will cost you around £160 at a garage. As for tyre life i have done more then 20,000 miles on a pair of front tyres that cost around £30 each, and expect them to go another 10,000 before i need to replace them. Power steering make all the differnce to the bottom of the range fiesta, on a heavy car like this you need power steering, the rest of the electrics can be seen as a bonus. Generaly the inside is of good quality, its what you would expect from a car of this type PERFORMANCE: Do not buy one of the cars if you want to get from 0-60 in under 10 seconds, its not a performance car, and without ...

Practical little car with no frills

Advantages: Cheap parts, economical
Disadvantages: Slow, minor electrical faults, noisy

Economy Superstar, 50 miles per gallon. Reliability I have had two diesel Fiestas. The first was so reliable that I bought a second. That wasn't. Oh well. So I would say reliability is variable. My current car gets through glow plugs and suspension arms like nothing else. Style Excuse me? Practical-looking. Acceleration Poor but ok once you are up to speed. Value for money Good. Parts are cheap and easy to get hold of. Good fuel economy. ...
...Minor electrical faults, e.g. rear windscreen wiper and radio only work intermittently. This has been the case with both of my Fiesta. Overall Good for those who care more for basic practicality than shiny bits and speed. The car for those who can't afford a diesel Polo or Seat Ibiza! ...

The most popular small car !

Advantages: Small and fast.
Disadvantages: The rust comes out to fast !!

Ford Fiesta - the most popular car in the group of SMALL cars (at least in Lithuania). Maybe thats why wee have chose this car in our research. The name Ford Fiesta has appeared in year 1976, when the first Ford Fiesta has been made (the old Fiesta). And already in 1989 a new model has been made. The 3 generation Ford Fiesta (to wich we have got used). In year 1992 manufacturers have improved this model: more updatings has been added and some Exterior ...

Disadvantages: lacking in features

...car, I turned to the ford fiesta. It was a straight choice between fiesta and a peugeot 206. Price wise, for the same money I could get a newer model of used fiesta than the peugeot. The biggest downside in the diesel model is its lack of features, no leccy windows and sunroof, not even a cigarette lighter (just a space for it). The interior is basic, no console, upholstery is comfortable but not as luxerious as some of the top range fiestas. ...

All I want to say is that, its a great little car, being ford its reliable, and spare parts are simple to get, it has saved me loads on fuel to work than my gas guzzling rover, and I think it looks pretty cool, as does my best mate jules who too drives one! ...

Do Consider Buying A Ford

Advantages: Econonical, Good Looks, Confortable Drive
Disadvantages: When People Are Concerned A Little Tight In The Back

Great car very economical got me from Sheffield to London and back on 30 pounds, I have 99 model which has a nice modern look, Comfortable to drive. Space wise it has a decent sized boot for this size of car which has the potential for lot more when you fold down the back seats EG I had my full size mountain bike in the back with space a plenty. But can be quite tight for space with a few larger persons in the back, Very popular car so easy to find ...
...normally set you back a good 40 pound + but with a little trip to the scrap yard 10 pounds got me a wheel and a barley worn tyre so there is potential there for a bargain. Cheap but not so chearful!

Advantages: fuel is very cheap
Disadvantages: was overtaken by a tortoise

ENCORE 1.8D (1997) Bought this car about 5 months ago. It is pretty cheap on fuel, but i was suprised at the cost of insuring it, also tax is pretty unfair as it is a 1.8, but being a diesel uses alot less fuel (obviously do not take this into account so you need to pay the higher car tax) Anyway, i was very shocked at the power on this car. It is the most underpowered car i have ever driven, acceleration is none existant, and overtaking other ...
...encore, and i mean basic. No extras at all. I have spent alot on this car getting it through the mot, brakes, general underbody work and now the fuel is leaking from the pump. Also not the quitest of cars when driving on the motorway. Anyway, thats the bad points out of the way. The car is pretty reliable, it is taking a while longer to start in the winter, but it does start everytime (which it should anyway). It is a pretty solid car. And thats ...

Good value, that's been going strong since '95

Advantages: damn cheap to run!
Disadvantages: damn slow!

After having this particular car since 95, I can say without a doubt, it's the most reliable i've had! (bar the Merc) and I use this as my lil workhorse car, carrying all the stuff I dont want in the merc - like flatpack furntiure from Ikea. It's extremely cheap to run! getting *at least* 45+ mpg, and with diesel only a fraction of the cost dearer than unleaded, it goes without saying .. yow! No power steering makes it a bit of a bugger to drive ...
...as a main driver and my sister (still a student) and dad as secondary drivers for under £800 It;s done approx 70k miles since new, and well i can't fault it. Granted it takes 20-30 seconds to get from 0-60, but hey, this wasn't meant for speed, but reliability.... The car is comfortable to drive, and still goods good after a good washing, and there have been no problems with rust either. The ratings I am giving are compared to a car of this class/age ...

It's not a dog!

Advantages: cheap, economical, slow
Disadvantages: not as quick as a ferrari

According to the used car press, this model is a dog. Well it isn't, so read on. I have been an owner of the 1.8 diesel for two years and was very sad to part with it recently after it became an insurance write off. Some twat decided to drive into it whilst it was parked at the roadside. My car was 1995 model, I bought it when it was three years old. During that time it regularly gave me 55 to 65 mpg. Very cheap to run. The exhaust fitted at time ...

My percy

Advantages: i love it
Disadvantages: noisy

I bought my little fiesta last october and i called him percy, because he just looks so cute! This fiesta is an R reg, Black, Ghia fiesta diesel, he came in excellant condition so i was lucky. The previous owner had really looked after it. However I noticed with my Fiesta and with my friends Fiestas that the interior doesn't keep very well, the outside of the car can look brand new but the inside can look worn and doesn't have a clean feel even ...
...recommend if you get a Fiesta, go for a Ghia, which is just a type of Fiesta which is a little bit more luxury, the inside of mine is a creamy beige colour and the dashboard and stereo area is a shiny wooden style. Because the inside of Ghia's are light coloured and the material is of a better quality i think they may be easier to clean and preserve. Ghia's also come standard with Alloy wheels, which I have only just started to appreciate. My particular ...

fiesta 1.8 diesel

Advantages: good fuel economy, handles ok
Disadvantages: a bit rattly, high insurance group and tax bracket for a no frills car

Had it 2 years now, its a T reg and plods along well. A basic ,no frills car, always been a poor starter due to no money spent on it. Turned out to be a corroded starter motor as a diesel will not start without sufficient rpms. Not much leg room in the back and not much accceleration, also a little noisy on cold start up. Endura engine looks like it will go forever and at 85000 miles is pulling nicely, no leaks or dribbles. It was a shock to find ...
