    Advantages Advantages Reliable and cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages smokes and old fashioned.

I have a Mark 2 Fiesta. It is a B plate and that means it is nearly 20 years old. At that age, cars are normally at the scrap yard but my Fiesta Diesel still runs. Ok, the bodywork is not all that clever now and I have had to make some repairs but the car is essentially solid. Common problems with such an old car are as follows: Parts I have replaced. Bodywork. 2 new wings. Old ones rusted. They cost about £15 each new and I welded them myself. Painting them cost about £40. New Bonnet. Old one rusted. It cost £5 from the scrap yard and it was the same colour andin good condition. A quick T-cut ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, cheerful, plenty to choose from.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Rusts like crazy. As basic as basic gets.

I wont try to hide the fact, the mk2 fiesta is definitely my all time favourite car. Ever since I was 15 and my mum bought a mk3 and gave me her old mk2 to potter about with, my life has been infested with the little dears. That original 1.1L eventually met a cruel and horrible death at my young and inexperienced hands but stood up to my cack-handed abuse for a long time. Since then I've owned around 12 mk2s of various denominations, mostly for profit making purposes. Now at the end of this opinion half the boxes are ticked as poor but that's by todays standards, so dont go thinking this car ... more

Advantages Advantages Small, Cheap and easy to fix

Disadvantages Disadvantages cheap quality, very old now so will go wrong

The ford fiesta is a good all rounder but you have to make some sacrifices if your used to comfort and reliability. I've never had a problem with any Ford up until 100,000 + miles as for my fiesta. Being very cheap to buy and look after it was a fantastic starter car, cheap to buy, cheap to run and cheap to fix if you do it yourself. I was quite lucky with my fiesta in that all that went on was the body until I have an accident in it and had to get rid. I did put wider wheels on it which improved the handling and made it look slightly better in my opinion. The biggest problem was rust, rust ... more

    Advantages Advantages cheap insurance,economical,fairly reliable,comfortable,nippy,

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

I bought my fiesta from a friend just over a year ago after finally passing my driving test. She was trading it in for a newer model but i knew it was reliable as she had been using it every day. I paid a grand total of £30 plus another £35 to get it through it's mot. What a bargain! SShe's a nippy little thing and comfy for a small car and the only time sshe irritates me is when it has been wet overnight and she doesn't want tto be woken up in the morning. SSo far i have only had to replace the points,ht leads, wiper blades and tthe exhaust which as ford parts are so cheap hardly dented the ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap to run, future classic, cheap to repair, good mpg,

Disadvantages Disadvantages Basic interior features, uncomfortable seats, poor motorway performance

Well what can i say, this model fiesta (mine being a modified 1989 model) is truly in my opinion is a great little car and a possible future classic. It never fails to put a smile on my face apart from when i get overtaken by every other vehicle on the road. For the engine size this is of little importance, the car does what it is meant do! It is an economic town car which regularly returns 40 mpg, is cheap to insure and very cheap to repair with parts readily available. For the vehicle moddders out there it has many options too with larger engines etc being easily compatible with the fiestas ... more

you can pick one of these up now for only a few hundered pounds. They are cheep and cheerfull a basic runabout for town. Loads of them were built and sold so there are absolutley loads of parts all at dead cheep prices compared to other cars. One thing of consequence is that they may not run on unleaded fuel. A conversion should cost no more than about 50 squid but if you buy one with around seventy thousand miles on the clock it should have enough lead impregnated into the head for you to drive it for a couple of years with only a timing change. ... more
