Advantages: Powerful, Responsive, Superb Road Handling and Handleability, ESP for Safety, Spacious and Stylish Disadvantages: Minor Gripes Only
I bought a Panther Black Ford Focus Estate 2.0L Zetec ESP car 11 months ago and consider it to be the best car I have owned even though it cost considerably less than quite a few of my previous cars. Although the Focus may be very common, the 2.0L Zetec ESP is quite rare and as the Focus range is supplied in its 'de-badged' state, a keen eye is required to identify one of these beasts among its lesser siblings. I'll tell you how to spot one later ... ...12,500 service at my local Ford dealer came to £79.03 including VAT - this is a joke compared to the Voyager service bills! The Insurance Group is 8 and therefore could be expensive for a young driver.
PERFORMANCE
0-60mph: 9.6 seconds
Top Speed: 125mph
On average, across all types of driving I'm getting 38-40 mpg so the trips to and from dance school don't hurt so much.
HANDLEABILITY
For a truly spacious estate car, this model is fast, powerful ...

The Ford Focus continues to be one of the most enjoyable cars in its price range. It's fun to drive, with brisk acceleration performance and agile handling. It's versatile, with hatchback models with flip-down seats that quickly prepare it for large amounts of cargo. It's comfortable on long trips and stable at high speeds.
Ford's New Edge styling has helped the Focus stand out from the crowd. It comes in a wide variety of body styles to meet many ... ...that out!!!)
2003 Model Ford Focus
Ford Focus comes in four distinct body styles: three-door hatchback, five-door hatchback, four-door, and five-door wagon. All offer similar driving characteristics.
Three engines are available. All are 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines. The 110-hp 2.0-liter engine with a single overhead-cam and two valves per cylinder is standard on Focus LX and SE models. It's mated to a five-speed manual transaxle.

I bought my Ford Focus in June 2006, second hand from Ford with 38,000 miles on the clock. The model I own is a 2.0 ESP facelift, with the revised headlights which include the indicator, revised bumpers with bump strips & revised metal flush skirts.
Now, in August 2007 the car is on the brink of hitting 70,000 miles and it literally hasn't missed a beat. The only parts that I have had to replace that are none wear and tear are the thermorstat housing ... ...nothing else in it's class at the same power I would swap it for. It is a great drive, reliable, good on fuel, insurance and the staff at Ford have been more than helpful over the time which I have owned this and my previous Focus. Advantages: Spacious, Powerful, Power Steering, Sleek Bodywork, Disadvantages: Can be costly to buy depending on model & Extras, Insurance too high for young drivers like myself :-(
...my father was given a Ford Focus 2.0L Ghia I must say I really enjoyed driving it when I was on the insurance, just for the sheer power and ability to accelerate at traffic lights. The car belonged to an electrical company(they paid my insurance for the car) but when my father retired he was offered the car and sadly for me, my insurance was far too expensive for the car :-(.

Another feature I forgot to mention was to open the bonnet to access the engine there is a key required, the keyhole itself is hidden behind the Ford badge which swivels around to reveal the slot.
The Acceleration in the car is very good, ...

In 2002 Ford released a sportier derivative of the Zetec model, the ST170. Designed in conjunction with the Rally Sport (RS) project the ST (sports team) was looking at developing a more rally-derived version of the popular hatchback for a consumer level. The 170 is comprised of the Duratec ST engine, which was developed from the 2.0 Zetec DOHC 16v engine used in the higher end Zetec and Ghia models. I have always loved Ford Escorts and tended to go for the mid-range sporty machines - a very Zen-like, middle-of-the-road attitude - (1.6 early types, and later the XR3i and finally the 1.8 si). I would probably still be driving one now if Ford hadn't replaced it with the Focus. As far as I was concerned, if it aint broke, don't fix it so I was a little timid when it came to this new model. "Haven't you got any Escorts?" I asked the saleman.

The Focus had an on-board computer that was showing a cruising consumption of 40+ to the gallon on the test drive and if I wanted performance - boy was it quick! I was convinced. This was no Escort - in comparison it was motoring luxury. Ford had really got it together with this quirky looking motor. After the test drive, I had fallen in love with it - I just had to buy ...

I have a 2003 mk1 ford focus 2.0l zetec 3dr version in Neptune Green, it sounds amazing, the speed is epic considering it has no turbo and the ride is very smooth. I put on 18" alloys that helped the car with handing corners better but in the processhass slowed the overall speed of the car.

i wanted to get an ST170 but im more that happy with my 2.0l 16v zetec engine as it is goup 9, the ST170 is group 15 but still has a 2.0l engine (Duratech) they are great cars with great engines. ...

The Focus is a great car and has been since first launched. Now available with a huge range of combinations of engine and body style. The smaller engines are reporteds to be a bit underpowered, while the 1.6 seems to be everyone's fasvourite. The review considers the 2.0l petrol auto Ghia.
