Advantages Advantages Powerful, Responsive, Superb Road Handling and Handleability, ESP for Safety, Spacious and Stylish

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Minor Gripes Only

I bought a Panther Black Ford Focus Estate 2.0L Zetec ESP car 11 months ago and consider it to be the best car I have owned even though it cost considerably less than quite a few of my previous cars. Although the Focus may be very common, the 2.0L Zetec ESP is quite rare and as the Focus range is supplied in its 'de-badged' state, a keen eye is required to identify one of these beasts among its lesser siblings. I'll tell you how to spot one later but first, let me tell you why I chose this car. WHY AN ESTATE? The time had come to replace my Chrysler Voyager but I didn't know what to get. For ... more

    Advantages Advantages handling, extras

Disadvantages Disadvantages now re-modeled - value may fall

The Ford Focus continues to be one of the most enjoyable cars in its price range. It's fun to drive, with brisk acceleration performance and agile handling. It's versatile, with hatchback models with flip-down seats that quickly prepare it for large amounts of cargo. It's comfortable on long trips and stable at high speeds. Ford's New Edge styling has helped the Focus stand out from the crowd. It comes in a wide variety of body styles to meet many different needs and lifestyles. Refinement comes in the form of new interior fabrics along with changes to interior and exterior trim, in comparison ... more

Advantages Advantages Great driving, reliable car

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Ford service department

I bought my Ford Focus in June 2006, second hand from Ford with 38,000 miles on the clock. The model I own is a 2.0 ESP facelift, with the revised headlights which include the indicator, revised bumpers with bump strips & revised metal flush skirts. Now, in August 2007 the car is on the brink of hitting 70,000 miles and it literally hasn't missed a beat. The only parts that I have had to replace that are none wear and tear are the thermorstat housing seal (Ford however will try and charge you to replace the whole housing, where infact it is invariably just the rubber seal which perishes), and ... more

Advantages Advantages Spacious, Powerful, Power Steering, Sleek Bodywork,

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be costly to buy depending on model & Extras, Insurance too high for young drivers like myself :-(

Since my father was given a Ford Focus 2.0L Ghia I must say I really enjoyed driving it when I was on the insurance, just for the sheer power and ability to accelerate at traffic lights. The car belonged to an electrical company(they paid my insurance for the car) but when my father retired he was offered the car and sadly for me, my insurance was far too expensive for the car :-(. The car itself has Air Conditioning which does a good job of keeping you cool on those hot days. Internally the car has plenty legroom and because it is an estate it also has a large storage area within the boot ... more

In 2002 Ford released a sportier derivative of the Zetec model, the ST170. Designed in conjunction with the Rally Sport (RS) project the ST (sports team) was looking at developing a more rally-derived version of the popular hatchback for a consumer level. The 170 is comprised of the Duratec ST engine, which was developed from the 2.0 Zetec DOHC 16v engine used in the higher end Zetec and Ghia models. Using extensive testing of revised materials and a new ECU the boffs at Ford managed to push a sustainable 173ps at 7000 rpm (196nm of torque at 1800 rpm) out of the power plant. The engine ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages difficult removal of rear headrests

I have always loved Ford Escorts and tended to go for the mid-range sporty machines - a very Zen-like, middle-of-the-road attitude - (1.6 early types, and later the XR3i and finally the 1.8 si). I would probably still be driving one now if Ford hadn't replaced it with the Focus. As far as I was concerned, if it aint broke, don't fix it so I was a little timid when it came to this new model. "Haven't you got any Escorts?" I asked the saleman. He looked at me as if I had just landed from another galaxy and then proceeded to show me this light blue metallic Focus Saloon Ghia. "This is Ford's ... more

    Advantages Advantages Stylish, good drive

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Price

I bought a 2.0l Ghia in September and I am really impressed. I went for the stylish saloon rather than the cut off hatchback and boy is it a big car. It has all the extras you need and a few you don't and is well put together and stylish. The boot has masses of room in and being higher than the hatchback means less bending when you are getting shopping in and out. I'm getting about 32MPG from it and that's with town driving, only 5 miles to work every day! When I do my motorway trips I get just over 38mpg, pretty good considering I'm a foot down sort of driver. I also find it comfortable and ... more

being a technician for ford, i come across these cars at least 3 times a week and i can tell you now that they are one of the best in the ford range. they beat the new ford focus hands down with interior and the power and economy are much the same. being a zetec rather than a duratorque means it is slightly slower than the new ford focus, but only at bottom end, when this gets into the higher revs it really starts to show its true colours. now its not all about power, speed and torque. the interior is very nice and can come in a variety of materials and colours. one of the things that you have ... more

Advantages Advantages Fully loaded, quick , economical

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too many of them on the road

I was that happy with my first Panther black 2 litre focus, I got another one. I'm fortunate that I get to choose a new company car every year, but after a solid year and 30,000 miles of trouble free motoring, I couldn't find anything among the vectras and toyotas to match it for performance or spec. You get: bigger alloys, 6 stack CD, air con, ABS and Anit Traction, electric everything. You also get a small car with a big engine that handles like a rollerskate and can suprise pretty much anything that thinks you're pottering about in a mum's motor. With it being a company car, I lend it to ... more

Advantages Advantages Almost too many to list: interior space, comfort and convenience of seats, driving position, road holding, reasonably economic, auto a dream

Disadvantages Disadvantages Luggage space limited and slightly awkward shape; not greart for towing due to weight limit..

The Focus is a great car and has been since first launched. Now available with a huge range of combinations of engine and body style. The smaller engines are reporteds to be a bit underpowered, while the 1.6 seems to be everyone's fasvourite. The review considers the 2.0l petrol auto Ghia. Chosen because I wanted an auto and did not want the slight loss of power this would mean in a smaller engine. The auto is great in traffic and eliminates the thought of stalling. The 'down' side is that this confidence may encourage one to pull out when appraochng vehicles are rather closer than normal. But ... more
