Advantages: Amazing car with superb handling and very comfortable and practical Disadvantages: The 1.6 TDCI isn't quite a performer and the economy is poor for a diesel!!

Following on from the success of their class leading small family hatchback, Ford decided to have a dabble in the compact MPV market using the Focus as a test bed. The new Focus C-Max was released in 2003 and was a preview of how the Focus hatchback replacement was heading to look. The C-Max itself is a handsome ... ...and also hinted on what Ford had in mind for the new Focus. With a new model came new engines, shunning away with Fords old 1.8 diesel engine Ford opted for the use of the PSAs 1.6 and 2.0 diesel units (the 2.0 unit which had established itself as the Mondeos popular engine). The look of the C-Max is quite misleading is does actually look a reasonable size from the outside but the moment you step in it you realise how spacious it really is. The model ...

Advantages: Long distance comfort , practicality ,improved interior quality. Disadvantages: economy could be better, heated front screen essential.
...What drew me to the Ford was the revamped interior compared to the previous Focus models in that it is mainly a softer type of plastic which seems to eliminate rattles of the old car and is more akin to a Volkswagen. Sad thought it sounds I also needed something which was able to carry around all my fishing tackle for those overnight fishing trips and the fact that the rear seats can be folded down independently or even removed completely to give ... ...by the dealer or the Ford technicians and after a prolonged dispute with the dealers the car was exchanged by Ford. Although there was an unusual noise the car never let me down once in 11000 miles. This first car I had did not have the heated front windscreen as standard and unless you want to be sat on the driveway for 20 minutes or more on a freezing winter morning waiting for the diesel engine to warm enough to defrost the screen then don't get ...

Advantages: Good mpg, loads of space, great driving position Disadvantages: Look a bit plain, a little boring!
My previous car was a 1.8TDCI 'standard' Focus. It was a great car. I had it for 3 years and it was completely reliable, I didn't have a single problem with it. It was however, a 3 door Zetec model and with the arrival of our daughter, it wasn't quite practical enough…. I needed something with a bit more boot space and 4 doors. So, after looking at various other options, I ended up with a C-max 1.6 TDCI Zetec. So what's the verdict……..
Well, it ... ...still a reasonably competent engine and it doesn't feel underpowered. Once more, I have found I'm getting significantly more mpg that the old car. I'm currently averaging 46mpg on my journey to work whereas I used to struggle to get above 40.
Inside, there's a more pleasing dash than before, I think generally the finishes are higher quality, eg chrome eternal door handles rather than the old plastic ones. Equipment levels are better too, it has ...

Advantages: Space, drive quality, economy Disadvantages: The Ford Focus.
This is a tough car to summarise, and many of the professional car reviewers contradict one another with the C-Max. When buying a car you need to... 1. Fix a budget in your head and don't go over it (a few hundred more will get me that model, oh, and a few more hundred will get me that... Before you know it you're after a car that's far dearer than your original sensible budget. 2. Decide what is most important in having a car and keep that in mind. ... ...goes out). Look, there's no escaping it - it's a Focus. So why spend the extra for a C-Max (even used models are quite dear - I bought a 2 year-old with almost 30000 on the clock for £11k)? If you go for a lower trim model then there is little point, but the Zetec (and Ghia, and I think the LX), have fancy-dancy rear seats that tilt and tumble to allow for excellent boot space and also slide back and across to create extra leg room for 2 rear passengers. ...

Advantages: Loads of headroom. Responsive 1600 TDCi Holds the road very well. Disadvantages: Seats water stain easily. Seats difficult to remove from car.
Clock always looses time. Seats water stain very easily.
Otherwise the 1.6 TDCI 110BHp. holds the road very well is good on fuel. The gearbox is really sweet. The car is very responsive. I still have not been able to remove the back seats but they do fold forward very easily. For a 1.6 diesel the engine is very quiet, you would think you were driving a petrol vehicle. It is a good car. I wanted to chop it in for another one but the price of the ...
