Advantages Advantages adequate seating, cheap(er) parts, relaible

    Disadvantages Disadvantages no boot space

I have owned my Galaxy since 1999 when it was bought brand new. That was such a great feeling, I was actually buzzing in the forecourt of Dagenham Motors. I’ve never been able to afford brand news cars, always going for the second hand market. We blew all our savings on this but it was worth it, I was in love! I was due to have my son within days and my husband was reluctant to buy a new car so close to becoming parents again. He always has his sensible head on but I the impulsive one, convinced him to part with our long saved nest egg and get this MPV. The car was a dream to drive, even ... more

    Advantages Advantages Big car

    Disadvantages Disadvantages small engine

The Ford Galaxy is a people carrier that looks remarkably like the VW Sharran and the Seat people carrier, this is for a very good reason, as they are the same vehicle, with different badges and different (but very similar) specifications. The model I drive is the 2.0 basic petrol model. The seating can be arranged in many different ways around the two in rear, three in middle and two up front formation. The rear seats are designed very much for the smaller members of the family, anyone over four and a half feet will start to feel cramped. The middle row have reasonably good legroom and good ... more

Advantages Advantages 7 Seats, lots of dealers

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fuel consumption, electric, build quality

After Messing about with several cheap MPV.s (serena, picnic) we decided to purchase a newer full size MPV from a main dealer. After looking around it was apparent that the Ford Galaxy was the most affordable despite being identical to the Seat Alhambra, Citroen Synergie etc. We got a 2 litre petrol white seven seater at 5 years old for £4000 with full warranty - i remember being pleased at the time. We got the beast home and noticed that there were several niggly electrical faults - in fairness this is down to build quality as well - the electric window switches on the drivers door are ... more

Advantages Advantages Passenger Space, manoeverability, cost

Disadvantages Disadvantages no boot space, flimsy speaker covers

We wanted a car which carried 7 people in relative comfort as I was a childminder and needed to ship kids to and from playgroups, schools etc. We shopped around and found that the Galaxy was the cheapest of the 'good' ones and the petrol model being significantly cheaper than the diesel equivalent. We have the S reg model and on the whole we are very please with it. It came with 110000 miles on the clock but is still hapilly motoring 4 years later with much more mileage on it. We have toured Great Britain and France in it and it has never mechanically let us down. We had a problem with the ... more

Advantages Advantages large spacious flexible vehicle

Disadvantages Disadvantages limited boot space, electrical problems expensive especially through main dealer

Large family seven seats is essential. Removable seating adds flexibility. Most car like MPV I've driven. Performance is reasonable 30+mpg driven sensibly. Cruises on motorway. Parts and servicing are cheap unless it's specialist electrical. Has been very reliable over last 5 years. Downside is limited boot space when fully laden. Central locking can jam and keys stick if automatic window closing function is over used. V-belt adjuster can fail if air-con and P-steering used a lot. Care is needed if buying high mileage car. Service history is a must. Cats can fail if fuel additives used or oil ... more

    Advantages Advantages Comfortable, large

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be difficult to drive because of size

I have this car and have done for a couple of years now. It is an extremely large and comfortable MPV. The seats in the boot have adequate space for legs and the seats are very comfortable, because they are wide so you have a lot of room and are not cramped against other people while traveling. We were thinking of selling it but decided not to because it is so good. It has all the features we need and has so much room compared to other cars. The radio is excellent for up to an hour without wasting the battery. It picks up the IOW radio when i do not live there. There are many useful places to ... more
