Advantages: Cheap, reliable and very environmentally friendly car Disadvantages: Quite small
...car - it was a Ford Ka! Now a t first i wasn't to keen on the idea of getting a Ka as many of my friends, and myself included, viewed them as more of a feminine car and i wanted something closer to a boy racer type car. But i was easily persuaded by my mum, particularly as it was rather cheap. However, i know have my Ka and have to admit that it is a great car and it was by far the best car i could ever have as my first car!
So the version i own ... ...production. It is 52 registered and was only £2500, compared to similar Ka luxury cars on the market for nearing £4000. Althoug I only had to contribute half of the money with my parents paying the rest.
Basic Description of my Ka Luxury:
Well, my Ka is a nice(?) red/burgundy colour, which after a while looks relatively nice - doesn't make you stand out like a sore thumb as some of those red cars seem to do! It has 3 doors and a good sized boot. ...

Advantages: Small and manouverable Disadvantages: It's a bit girly
I bought my Ford KA at the end of May 2007 after a very lengthy search for a new car. I wanted something small and girly but with a decent sized engine. Following numerous test drives of practically every make of small car in the country the Ford KA came out top.
***Versions***
There are a few different versions of the KA, all with a 1.3i engine or the Sportka which comes with a 1.6i engine.
Ford KA Studio (from £7,095)
Ford KA Style (from £7,395)
... ...Two-Tone (from £7,995)
Ford KA Zetec (from £7,995)
Ford KA Zetec Climate (from £8,595)
Ford KA Zetec Climate Two-Tone (from £8,595)
Ford KA Luxury (from £9,195)
Ford Sportka SE (from £9,995)
There's not a lot of difference between the different type of KA, the more basic ones come with a cassette player, the climate range has air conditioning, the zetec range is more sporty with a rear spoiler and alloy wheels, the two-tone range are trying ...

Advantages: Tardis-like interior, fuel economic, low premium, good extras inc CD player etc Disadvantages: Can pull and lacks torque at times
...car.
We bought our Ford KA as a replacement for a 26-year-old Austin Mini HL. We were going to fix the Mini when it failed its MOT but decided to sell it and buy a new car.
We looked around for a while, not really sure of what to buy. For a long time we were thinking of buying a newer classic Mini but kept other cars in mind, specifically the new breed of super-minis such as the KA, Aygo etc. In the the end, after a successful test drive, we opted ... ...my only scrutiny of the Ford KA is the engine at times doesn't have enough torque and can pull a bit - sometimes when overtaking it can take a good few seconds to get up to a decent enough speed. I have read other reviews that this car shakes when it passes 70, I can say with certainty that ours doesn't. It is very comfortable at 70 and although acceleration after this is lacking the ride remains smooth from 70mph to 90mph.

Advantages: Easy to park Disadvantages: Headlight bulbs are hard to change
I bought a KA collection in 2001 as my first 'proper' car. Before that I had been driving my mum's old car.
I wanted a small car with air conditioning, and a cd player and preferably in silver, and that was it! So I ended up with this.
The air conditioning caused a few problems at first with a leaking pipe, but after being fixed it is now ok and is great in the summer, I would definitely recommend it.
The main bad point about this car is that ... ...a mechanic which has meant that after they once stopped working I got charged more than the average price because of the amount of time it takes them to fix it. Apparently KAs are known for this (and this is coming from a reliable mechanic bty!)
But apart from that it is a very good car especially if you live somewhere where parking is difficult because I can often squeeze into spaces other people can not.
The glove box is a bit of a joke it is ...

Advantages: Nippy little runaround Disadvantages: too girlie and a small boot
I first bought my KA 4 years ago after years of saying they looked like weird little bubble cars! However once the car dealer – after much persuasion – showed me the KA and I saw the luxury leather interior and all the mod cons I was pleasantly surprised so I decided I take one for a little spin. I instantly fell in love with the car it has a smooth ride, grips the road well and handles corners like a dream!
I use this car mostly to get to and from ... ...full tank of petrol. I find this car is very nippy and can pick up speed quickly if the gears are used to their full advantage, when pulling onto motorways I tend to leave it in fourth until I have picked up enough speed to pull into the fast lane and I do find its quite easy to maintain a high speed – however it can get a little noisy when you do drive it at a high speed.
Due to the size of the car I find it very easy to handle and I am able to ...

...a toss up between a Ford or a Vauxhall. We eventually decided upon a Ford Ka as it didn\'t feel too big for us to manage and it was good value at only £6500 with electric windows, CD player etc. and a years tax and breakdown cover included. We were also given 50,000 Nectar points whcih worked out at £250 in Debenhams or Sainsburys. The colour we went for was moon-dust silver and this has stood up very well to the elements and wear and tear. There ... ...after 1000 miles from your Ford dealer just to check if everything is working fine. It was discovered we had an oil leak which was repaired quickly with no cost to ourselves due to the 3 year warranty. It has just had it\'s 2nd year service last month and we needed new suspension brushes and again this didn\'t cost us anything. You also keep collecting Nectar points on your services at Ford. ...

Advantages: Cheap to run Disadvantages: Space, luggage and people!
We bought one of these 2nd hand back in 2004, it was a 52 reg.
It was my mums car but I was on the insurance, this was the first car I drove after passing my test in April 2006.
It's good cheap first car, the insurance is quite low but after getting rid of it in december 06 and getting a renault clio campus sport, the insurance is actually cheaper on that than the ka.
It's quite economical, especially in the city. It's size makes it easier to ... ...your still in the lines with enough room around you!
If one of the passengers was quite tall with long legs, they may not appreciate sitting in the back, as the roof begins to curve down again and the leg room is not alot, especially if sat behind the drive who is at least 5ft7. Also they may find it awkward getting out, my friends have tended to fall out a couple of times due to folding the seat down to get out the front door. There are only four ...

Advantages: Cheap, Nice to Drive, Easy to park Disadvantages: Tinny
My parents brought me my W reg Pepper Red Ka Collection around 2years ago as my first car and I love it.
Ka's are surprisingly nippy cars and are very cheap to run. In the last two years I've had no problems what so every apart from needing new wiper blades so has been a very reliable first car.
At 17 and only holding a provisional licence my first insurance quote was £904 a year third party, fire and theft which was less than any of my friends ... ...price was reduced to £624 and now down to just £514 a year.
My Ka is a lovely little car which is cheap to insure, easy to park and surprisingly big inside for such a small car.
The only bad thing about my Ka is that it can be noisy at high speeds and it's great in snowy conditions. But all in all a very cheap to buy, run, insure and very reliable. I would definitely recommend Ka's as a brilliant first car. ...

Quick review of Ford Ka 1.3i 8v
Great car for someone who's just passed their test (like me when I first bought it), I really struggled changing gear in my instructors car but in the Ka I was shocked at the difference. Quite hard to stall it too. Had mine just over a year now (02 plate), had to get new brake pads, and it needs a new suspension too.
Its a good car for a small person but my boyfriend (6ft3) really struggled to drive it as the steering wheel can't be adjusted. Not had many problems with it at all apart from a wobbly speedometer when its cold. ...

Advantages: Good in Cities Disadvantages: Boot is just about big enough for a handbag
As small cars go its not too bad, economical, easy to park, cheap insurance and tax plus its nippy around town, but that is about it. The ride is a bit stiff and the seats are not the comfiest in the world, although they are positioned well for driving, the steering although PAS is also a little heavy compared to say a larger car.
There is plenty of room in the front of the car, but very little in the back, a normal sized adult would find themselves ... ...the roof.
The brakes require plenty of pressure before they respond adequately which can be a little frightening if moving from a car with very responsive brakes.
Although the spec says a top speed of 104mph, I find it very hard to believe that it can reach this as even doing 70ish on the motorway it feels like it is labouring and this does burn fuel very quickly, therefore the car only seems economical around town.
The storage space is very limited ...

Advantages: good road handling, good comfort, good value for money Disadvantages: boot space
i have a ford ka myself, and i have found it is perfect for long journeys or nipping 2 the shops. i live on my own, so my shopping is not much, so it fits in my boot quite easily, but if ur weekly shop is large (my family for example) it tends to take over the car. I took my dad shopping for the rest of my family before i passed my driving test and he spends god knows how much on shopping a week. and my boot was overloaded and chopping was litterally ... ...more than four people in this car then it is not the car for you as it has only four seats. and if your in the back then getting out is not the most flattering of experiences i must say. if u have too sit in the back wear some sort of trousers or shorts.
the petrol last for a good while but if your anything like me and only put £5-£10 in a time it does about 70miles on £10. the car runs a lot smoother on a full tank than a drop everytime anyway.

...this car after having a Ford Fiesta. It is a fantastic run around car, however it lacked speed when you have the air con on. I would recommend this as a first time car for new drivers.
The interior is simple and spacious in the front. You could probably only get 2 people in the back comfortably, and the boot does lack space if you do a large grocery shop.

This is an excellent example for a a first car, or for peopl who do not earn alot of money, or for people who just like the size and purpose of the car. It is very nippy for a small 1.3 car. It can reach around 105 mph maybe more if you have some mods on it. It is very cheap to insure and can can get insured by most insurance company as a first car at 17.
