Ford Mondeo 1.6 Verona

Advantages: Reliability; low maintenance costs.
Disadvantages: Underpowered; brakes fair only.

...pre-registered car from a main Ford Dealer in May 2000. With 137 miles on the clock it was in effect brand new. In terms of performance the car is somewhat underpowered and demands that you use the gears to maintain responsiveness. In spite of this it is fun to drive and has excellent roadholding with precise steering and notchy but firm gears. The seat adjustments enable you to find a comfortable driving position and I have found that I can drive ...
...legs. At 58,000 miles the only maintenance other than normal servicing, renewal of tyres, etc. has been that the front drive shafts needing changing at 22,000 miles. Although I drive the car positively I do not hammer it and I was disappointed with this failure. Other than that it has performed faultlessly. On the negative side, the brakes require strong legs and the lack of ABS adds to the weakness of the braking system. The heating system fails ...

Ford Mondeo, 02, Estate, hire car for 24 hours.

Advantages: Spacious
Disadvantages: Uncomfortable ride position, petrol consumption

Hi there, i recently hired this car for 24 hours, as i needed transport, and this was the only car left available. In my experience, i've never liked fords, simply because of the comfort issues with their seats. However, in this car, i could pick out a lot of faults, this one had 100'000 miles on it, and for the most part it didn't actually have anything mechanically wrong with it...albeit the engine management light that was permanently on! The ...
...clutch itself seemed to be harder to press, almost as if it were a badly fitted clutch cable (but it was a hydraulic clutch). The armrest between the front seats interferes with the operation of the handbrake. The centre console itself is way to "plasticky" for my liking, too many cheap materials look to have been used in it's construction. The main thing for me is the view from the cockpit, as it were....i'm not a small person by any means, and ...

not a great car

Advantages: air conditioning, we no longer have it
Disadvantages: slow, sluggish, badly designed, cheap& nasty, ford

...it was a mk II Ford Mondeo. At a time when on the LX range the equivalent was a vectra with air con, cd player, rear headrests, and a 1.8 engine, this Mondeo lack in all but the air conditioning. The car was slow off the mark, despite having a brand new engine in it, even with the zetec improvement it simply lacked the umph of many of the other cars that I have been in. The gear box I found was too closely positioned to the front fascia, so every ...
...of the cars made by Ford do. The interiors are about as modern as a Charlie Chaplin movie. So what can I say except for this car does not just have no street cred, it will mark your name for so long that even if your next car is Michael Schumachers F1 car, people will still laugh at you for having driven a 1.6 LX Mondeo. Don't get one they are not worth it, unless someone pays you to have it, and your insurance as well which will be a high group ...

Ford Mondeo 1.6 - passes MOT with no problems

...at us. Being a Ford we have been able to purchase any parts we require for it from any local car parts stores and they have not been overly expensive considering the age of the car. We have found this to be a comfortable, affordable large car which has not cost us excessively on any minor repairs that have needed to be done. It is a pleasure to drive, especially after driving a Vauxhall Astra of the same age with no power-steering. The fuel consumption ...

NOT BAD

Advantages: looks quite good
Disadvantages: underpowered

I drive the estate and have to say its not powerful enough, other than that it ok, if u are considering buying one be sure to get a more powerful model. the spec aint bad and for a first estate it ok. dunt look too bad either. also it aint cost a lot to run. nice but underpowered, also u must get a good colour, although this is personal preference this car is made to look great or very poor simply by the colour. shop around, i don't have a new one ...

GOOD RELIABLE CAR!

Advantages: ECONOMICAL / FAMILY
Disadvantages: NO EXTRAS

I WAS LOOKING FOR A GOOD, RELIABLE FAMILY CAR THAT ALSO HAD A BIT OF CLASS AND LUXERY AND WHICH RESPONDED RELATIVELY WELL ON THE ACCELERATOR. I DECIDED TO BUY A MONDEO, WHICH FITTED INTO THIS CATEGORY PERFECTLY. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR A WHILE NOW AND I AM CERTAINLY GLAD I BOUGHT THIS MODEL. I AM EXTREMELY RELUNCTANT TO GET RID OF IT AS IT ALWAYS FLIES THROUGH ITS MOT, WHICH I'M NOT USED TO WITH OTHER CARS I HAVE HAD IN THE PAST. IT IS REASONABLY ECONOMICAL. ...

Gets me to work and back

Advantages: Post-150K miles and going strong
Disadvantages: The stigma attached with driving a Mondeo

I must start my opinion by saying this certainly wasn't my first choice of car. Having spent months wading through all the car-buyer guides and looking at cars with BHPs in excess of 180, I decided on a Seat Leon Cupra (no I haven't gone mad or clicked on the wrong make and model to write my opinion). This was a superb car, however it got stolen at gun point and so I needed something to replace it that didn't quite draw the attention of any would-be ...
...was up for the job. Imagine the delight as my father allowed me to purchase his bog-standard L reg Mondeo from him for a grand. With 145K already on the clock, I was a little worried that I may not make it the 300 miles home, but to my surprise, not only did the car make it home, but I actually felt a bond towards this car and was enjoying the drive. Granted it's no Cupra for sheer fun but it is steady on the motorway and has a large enough tank ...
