Advantages: cheap to buy and run Disadvantages: more expensive to run than my old Fiesta
...been driving around a 1987 Ford Fiesta for the last 9 years and so we decided at long last to buy a new (used) car. We wanted another Ford because in our experience they are so cheap to fix when anything goes wrong. We started looking originally at the Ford Escort, but my husband was of the opinion that these cars were a bit dated. We also discovered that the Ford Mondeo was as cheap to buy as the Escort (good old Parkers online). I am told this ... ...because they are used a lot as company cars and then sold once the lease has expired. An example of how cheap they are second hand - our car new sells at about £16,000 whereas 1 1/2 years later we have bought it for £6,800 (although the mileage of our new car is quite high - 42000 miles). Who would be mad enough to buy one new, I ask myself?! After considering the above, the choice was easy. We found our car at a local Hyundai garage, where it must ...

...metallic grey, or graphite as Ford would have it, this car is nevertheless blandness personified, as perhaps befits a car to have a social class (Mondeo man) named after it.
This is a comfortable car, the seats are soft, but at the same time supportive, it is easy to find a comfortable driving position, and all the controls are clear, logical and well laid out.
Handling is secure, although the extra weight of the diesel engine means that it does ... ...positive and communicative than a Primera of a similar vintage. It is nice and light considering the size of the car though.
While the car is economical (500+ miles on a tank is nice) it is clear that is a very old outdated diesel engine. The addition of a turbo does little to improve the miserable performance, and you really have to rev it to get anywhere, not a pleasant experience, as it is coarse and noisy at high revs. I was absolutely left ...

Advantages: Nice car to drive, Prices are coming down for below average examples Disadvantages: Very hard to do any kind of DIY work on
I recent purchased a newer Ford to replace my ageing, but ever so reliable Escort. I decided on the Ford Mondeo with a little help from my insurance compnay. Im with a company called Ford Insured , whom only insure Fords.
I came across the N reg old shape model when my friend came across it when it was put in part exchange at a local dealer. Im shocked that a rise of 2 groups has resulted in a rise of £210 which means Im paying £550. Advantages: Fantastic chassis, excellent build, equipment, low running and repair costs, quiet ride. Disadvantages: Slow, not always as economical as you would expect
...some blatant penny pinching by Ford means the fuel gauge sender wires are exposed when you fold the rear seats down, meaning loads can snag on them and disturb them. This is a poor oversight when a 20p piece of conduit or rerouting of the wiring would have solved the problem.
This design fault however is about the only one I can find. The dash ergonomics are faultless, the driving position adjustment range is huge, the seats are comfy, and even ... ...A 10k service using genuine Ford / Motorcraft parts and oil costs less than UKP50. Reliability of the car has been beyond criticism. Part of the reason I chose a Mondeo is that the ads are awash with examples which have covered 150,000 miles plus and still in excellent order. My father has had one for nine years and has been delighted with his too.
Very highly recommended. A great all round family car which is better built and engineered than many ...

Advantages: excellent for towing Disadvantages: can be sluggish when not towing
The main reason for this car was for towing a horse trailer laiden with one horse. All I can say is for that its excellent!! I don't even know that there's anyting on the back, its so smooth and changing gear is brilliant. Being diesel its also even easier for towing and uses hardly any diesel when using it for towing. There is plenty of room inside and it is a really nice shape, even better as when we bought it, it already had a small spoiler on ...

Advantages: There aren't any. Disadvantages: Where do I start!
Our Mondeo has been a disaster from the start, it really has. It was bought to replace an old Nissan Bluebird. There's something wrong with the car all the time, one thing's fixed, and another thing goes. It breaks down regularly. When we got this car, it had only done about 70,000 miles - nothing for a diesel, but we've had trouble with it from the start. It's the most sluggish Turbo Diesel i've ever been in, it's an embarassment. The garage sees ...
Advantages: Nice ride, very smooth to handle Disadvantages: Not very robust, all kinds going wrong with it
...pulling to the left problem. Ford said this was a characteristic rather than a fault and never actually offered any workaround. My Mondeo did the same. Not long after I bought it, the brake discs needed changing and the exhaust. Well fair enough, again it was a fairly used car and these are consumable parts. Next the clutch went, now I started to think maybe I am a tad unlucky. Next the power steering pump died and ford charged me £280 for repair. ... ...? Probably the worst car I am ever likely to own and I am still stuck with it. Thankyou Ford Credit for ripping me off. The only other problem, Fuel. Try £55 to fill the tank in ripoff Britain and only lasted a week of general travelling to work...shopping etc ...

Review of Ford Mondeo 1.8 TD
...Diesel engine technology has left Ford well behind - surprising consider the investments made by Audi, VW, Peugeot et al. The engine is gutless with the turbo on song and positively arthritic off-boost. The turbo rev range is very brief and the boost comes on suddenly, which makes driving unpleasant, particularly around town. The limited range also make overtaking difficult and slow, usually requiring a gear change or two at some point. Handling ... ...which can make the nose run wide in corners. Reliability is acceptable but not as good as the petrol versions. The short service intervals can also be irritating. That aside, it is economical - typically 500 miles per tank - and if you can stand the steering wheel vibration and lethargy, it is an acceptable motorway cruiser. Away from the engine, of course, you get all the traditional Mondeo attributes - comfort, space, equipment. But it doesn't ...

Advantages: Good fuel consumption, comfortable, easy to drive Disadvantages: None
I have had my Modeo TD for 4 years, it was second hand when I bought it and is now 7 years old. During this time it has clocked up 130,000 miles and is still going strong.
I have it serviced regularly and apart from the usual vehicle consumables nothing major has ocurred to the vehicle and there is plenty of life left in the old girl yet.
This vehicle is certainly the best car I have owned and the performance is great. Fuel consumption is also ...

...I've owned is the 1994 Ford Mondeo 1.8 Turbo Diesel. I've had it for over 4 years now, but despite clocking up over 194,000 miles on it, I've had no major problems, and it's still going strong. It's excellent on fuel, and gets 50-55 miles to the gallon, and with these soaring petrol/diesel prices, it's definitely an advantage. The Mondeo has a nice body style, and a sunroof for those rare warm days. It comfortably seats 5 people, and because it's ...

We have owned three of these and can't fault them, Good performance and plenty of room inside with a big plus that they are reliable and are cheap to repair and maintain.

...to all those considering a Ford diesel.
First, the good points: Ford make cheap, comfortable cars, with plenty of service support, finance deals and the like. The Mondeo is roomy, will easily support a family of four and a dog without undue stress, and on long journey's, is economical on fuel and doesn't make your ears bleed. It is the most normal of all normal cars. It makes the Vectra look positively aspirational, Volvo look classy, Audi look ... ...nothing worse than a normal car. Writing a review on the Mondeo is a bit like trying to talk about grey cardigans. They're grey. And cardigany. Much the same as a Mondeo is a car, with four wheels and an engine. Which is a pity really. Because a Mondeo with four wheels and no engine would be a delightful car to review. I could get talking about how its looks are slightly skewed, as if the designers had taken a perfectly good design and added a "gravity" ...

The eatste version was cavernous but still offered sports like handeling and was very capable of towing up to 1500kg with out too much effort.

I bought my Mondeo in 2002 with 50,000 miles on the clock. Since then I have used it as a Taxi, currently showing a total mileage of 201,000. I have changed the cambelt religiously every 40,000 miles and serviced every 8-10,000 miles (in my case about 2 monthly!).
