    Advantages Advantages reliability,comfort,safety

Disadvantages Disadvantages doesn't exactly stand out in the crowd

My Job is as a cab driver and as such I get a lot of stop start motoring and do quite a mileage each week.I initially went after a mondeo because of its size and safety features ,however after using it daily fir two years I can safely say it is a very comfortable car to sit in for long periods and has been a good earner for me. I bought my mondeo TD LX from an auction two years ago, with 78,000 on the clock, and although I have done over 80,000 miles in it since then it has always been reliable once started...It sometimes doesn't want to start in the cold.I replaced the heater plugs but this ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap family car, comfortable, chews up motorway miles

Disadvantages Disadvantages Talks and walks like a tractor, must be over 50 to own one.

I'm a little disappointed, to be honest. Nothing to do with the car, but Ciao just lacks range. I've just spent 12 hours and 1,000km driving across Europe in a 2003 2.0L TDCi Mondeo station wagon, and the whole time I was thinking, "I'd love to review this on Ciao". But there is no 2.0L TCDi wagon. This is the closest I can get, but I honestly believe that what I learnt applies to all those considering a Ford diesel. First, the good points: Ford make cheap, comfortable cars, with plenty of service support, finance deals and the like. The Mondeo is roomy, will easily support a family of four ... more

Advantages Advantages Workhorse engine, well proportioned boot/saloon to carry shopping, luggage and people, spares aplenty in scrapyards

Disadvantages Disadvantages Front bulbs a pain to change.

I bought my Mondeo in 2002 with 50,000 miles on the clock. Since then I have used it as a Taxi, currently showing a total mileage of 201,000. I have changed the cambelt religiously every 40,000 miles and serviced every 8-10,000 miles (in my case about 2 monthly!). The lighting earths are frequently making there presence felt when my datalink system misbehaves. This fault will not affect a 'normal' motorist but, those of us who use additional electronic equipment, particularly radio data links will be well advised to clean the earths regularly. The trim around the tailgate 'rattles' and I have ... more

Advantages Advantages Absolute minimal cost motoring. Nobody will notice you

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow, engine re-defines harshness and noise, Boring.

I Used to run a 1998 BMW 728i, and found in this time of credit crunch that selling it for something that did not cost the earth to run was a wise move, this was well over 18 months ago. Whilst looking for a replacement for the BWM, I bought as a temporary runaround, a 1999 115kmile Mondeo TD LX for £1k. I have long since spent the proceeds of the BMW's sale on other items (Holiday to Spain! :o ) and simply kept the Mondeo! Its as slow as a Snail, actually, Snails challenge you at the lights, Its engine is from the dark ages sadly, that said, its very much an "if it ain't broke don't fix it" ... more

Advantages Advantages Reliable, comfortable, cost-effective, spacious loadspace

Disadvantages Disadvantages diesel no longer cheaper than petrol

When I bought my V reg Mondeo LX in September 2003 it had 90000 miles on the clock, I've since added another 45000. Good set of accessories, including CD player, Air Con, heated windscreen, electric front windows, remote central locking, electric mirrors and electric drivers seat adjustment. The load space has been great for transporting my daughters belongings to and from Uni, especially as everything needs to be moved at the end of each year and the beginning of the following year and this can be done in one trip! The Mondeo has been very cost-effective, it's had two full services, I'm ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap to run

Disadvantages Disadvantages havent found any yet

I got my Mondeo off ebay last year with nearly 100k on the clock. it isnt the prettiest car having had a bit of a hard life, its covered in dents. But lets us park it just about anywhere without the fear of it getting nicked. but the car itself has been very reliable and economical. It has a good spec heated front screen , electric front windows, mirrors and drivers seat adjustments. The only criticism i have got is the timing belt change interval is really low at 40k and i heard through the trade that its better to change slightly before, due to problems with the tensioners. but other than ... more

I turned up at my local Ford dealers to look at the Mondeo since it fell within the type of car I wanted. I was disappointed to be left largely to my own devices and little interest was shown towards my needs. It later became apparent that the salesmen were more interested in selling another model for which I suppose they had an incentive. nevertheless I did take a test drive. To be fair the car proved tho be very responsive and was quick of the mark. However, the interior was less impressive. Simply, I did not like it. It looked cheap and nasty and perhaps it was. Mondeos' have a reputation ... more

    Advantages Advantages Space

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Power

An excellent vehicle to cover high milage in comfort and driver enjoymnet, had 4 versions now and still recomend this car. The eatste version was cavernous but still offered sports like handeling and was very capable of towing up to 1500kg with out too much effort. The only real down side was the front tyre wear which was only 8000 miles when used towing around town, I have covered over 100,000 miles in three of the cars. Thes ervice that I recieved in my local main dealer was excellent. I found the quality of the interiors has improved with age with all controls comfortably coming to hand ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap to buy, easily maintained.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bumpers are easily damaged.

We have owned three of these and can't fault them, Good performance and plenty of room inside with a big plus that they are reliable and are cheap to repair and maintain. I would go for the Aircon model for when the sun does actually shine and it should not cost you much more for extras such as CD player alloy wheels etc. The estate versions are a particularly good workhorse with a large easy accessible load area with the split rear seats folded down, As an ex mechanic I reckon the engines are good for over 200,000 miles if they get regular oil and filter changes. Servicing is straightforward ... more

    Advantages Advantages Practical, comfortable, efficient

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Lacks inspiration

I bought a 1996 Ford Mondeo 1.9 TDi second had about 18 months ago now. I particularly wanted to switch to diesel because I commute and so clock up about 600 miles a week. The fuel efficiency of this car is pretty good for its age - I still get about 45 miles to the gallon. The mondeo still has to be one of the most practical cars on the market, in terms of dashboard layout, load capacity, comfort and reliability. Its also pretty quick - a bit slow on acceleration (as are most diesels, although the turbo does provide some lift) but it cruises nicely even at high speed. For the money there's ... more
