Advantages Advantages Comfort with performance. Smile factor

    Disadvantages Disadvantages high running costs

I bought my ST220 about 18 months ago. I changed from an Impreza Turbo and was concerned that nothing would live up to that. The ST is not a car of the same kind but has maintained my "need for speed" but added comfort and space. It has also reduced my insurance and no one tries to nick it anymore! The car was reasonably priced I thought at £12k and insurance is not too bad, just shop around for a deal, I have just used the AA and am paying £440 fully comp (that includes 2 claims and 2 speeding fines hanging over from the Subaru) but I'm happy with AA. The ST220 has all the extras, mine is a ... more

Advantages Advantages Power, driveability, looks, ITS A FORD

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cost of purchase and running

Being in the motor trade I get the pleasure of driving a vast variety of cars, being connected to motor sport means that I get great pleasure from driving “non standard” cars. The ST200 is one of the few that makes a good compromise. I have recently had the pleasure of driving an ST200 with 10k miles on the clock. A “W” reg, in dark metallic blue. From the moment I sat in the leather recaro seat, I knew that I was in for something different, something special. The cabin has more leather than you would find in an Italian sofa workshop. The dashboard shows it’s a ... more

hello all. ive owened my st200 for over a year now and it hasnt put a foot wrong by far the best car i have owened in my short life so if your thinking of buying one (hoping ive done enough in this passage of words to convince and help) then go for it! . however having said above it hasnt put a foot wrong was a bit of a fib, just lately a few things have just needed replacing but considering my car was registered in 99 and its only the usual things such as pads, discs and bushes i can cope with that. The car itself is fantastic to look at i think its more handsome than alot of cars of its era ... more

This is a must car for any Ford enthusiast that has a family to consider as well as wanting a car that will shift when you plant your foot firmly to the floor. The Mondeo ST 200, (201 BHP but the name sounds better rounded off). This is produced from a bullet proof Duratech 2544cc V6 engine. The car has traction control and ABS to help you in any emergency situation. The ST 200 was made from 1999 to 2000 on a T, V, W and X plate due to the revision of the new car registration dates. Therefore these are a rare car to get hold of, especially the 500 limited edition versions. The cars body work ... more

Advantages Advantages Powerful, smooth, spacious, good spec, heated leather seats, understated, secure

    Disadvantages Disadvantages It attracts undesirables

You know a car is a bit special when you don't mind going to work because it means you can drive the car. I get up early every day to drive my ST220. In fact I get up at 5.30 and smile. When I went to replace my W reg Mondeo Zetec about a year ago, I went with the intention of swapping it for a Mazda 6. Several chaps in work had raved about the 6 and I must admit I was tempted. For some unknown reason though, I called into the local Ford dealer on the way and ended up being persuaded into buying a 6 month old, jet black ST220 with all the bells and whistles for £10,000 less than the new list ... more

Advantages Advantages Looks fast, goes fast and is extremely comfortable.

Disadvantages Disadvantages High fuel consumption and insurance group

The Ford Mondeo ST200 is the latest special edition version of the Mondeo. For £23,000 (£10 more than an ST24 or a Ghia X), you get an extremely exclusive car that looks the part, and has the performance to match. Ford special engineering have managed to squeeze an extra 37 horsepower out of the 2.5 litre V6 Duratec engine, made by Mitsubishi. By fitting a double exhaust to increase the airflow of the engine, and changing the engine management chip, the engine now produces 205 horsepower as opposed to 168. The car has a full bodykit, including 17" alloy wheels and low profile tires, and it ... more

Advantages Advantages Build quality, performance, high specfication

Disadvantages Disadvantages High tax brand, the look may start to date since the new model was released.

After selling my Mazda RX8 last year due to high ownership costs and a few too many repairs, I was looking for bit of a compromise. I didn't have to look far. A trip to my local Ford dealer and a test drive soon cleared the idea of any compromise. For a start there was the price, a pre-registered 07 plate with 15 miles on the clock and £10,000 off list price. It was a steal. Running in took place over the next 3 weeks with a drive to Italy and back. 2,800 miles, averaging 31.5mpg and motorway cruising at about 80mph was pretty impressive. Even now it happily returns 27mpg under normal driving ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages TIGHT ENGINE BAY FUEL ECONOMY (TO BE EXPECTED)

Although never comparable to the Sierra Cosworth in terms of racing pedigree and cult status, dont cross this car off your list if you're looking for a quick car with comfort and space. Not been a fan of front wheel drive, I can honestly say the handling of these cars, especially considering the weight of them, is superb offering driver good feedback through the well weighted steering coupled together with a taught chassis that soaks up bumps well yet turns into a nice sharp corner in a safe and sure footed manner. Equipment levels good, effortless streams of power from the 3 litre engine and ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Ever since it first appeared two years ago, the new Ford Mondeo has been crying out for a more powerful engine to exploit the excellent chassis. And now it has arrived. The long-awaited hot ST220 goes on sale in Britain this month, priced at £21,745 as a hatch or saloon, or £1,000 more for the estate. But is the right-hand-drive ST good enough to satisfy the keenest enthusiasts? After all, the ST200 version of the previous Mondeo failed to hit the target, suffering from a lack of refinement and prodigious torque steer, as well as terrifying depreciation. The blue oval is quick to point out ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Fuel consumption.

I've had the pleasure of using one of these for work and it was a great car, very fast in my opinion, sounded great and drove very smooth. The one I had was in metallic blue - a real eye catcher. It had half-leather seats that had a real sporty feel about them, it had air con, a six disc cd radio system, but not all of them come standard with one of those, power drivers seat height adjustment, front and side air bags. It had a 2.5-litre 24V Duratec engine which sounded nice and beefy when you tickled the accelerater peddle. They come standard with a nice body-kit that is not over the top and ... more
