Ford Mondeo ST220

AdvantagesComfort with performance. Smile factor

Disadvantageshigh running costs

"...that does 60 MPG. Servicing at Ford main dealers brings all the usual extortionate labour costs and they never repair when they can replace, but that's no different to other manufacurers. Oh and my dealer never seems to have 220 parts in stock, some have to be ordered from Germany. Mondeo's of all specs do have some common problems, the main one I have come across with mine are the rear bushes. These have to be replaced after about 20-25k. It's ..." Read review

well worth every penny and then some

AdvantagesPower, driveability, looks, ITS A FORD

DisadvantagesCost of purchase and running

"Being in the motor trade I get the pleasure of driving a vast variety of cars, being connected to motor sport means that I get great pleasure from driving “non standard” cars. The ST200 is one of the few that makes a good compromise. I have recently had the pleasure of driving an ST200 with 10k miles on the clock. A “W” reg, in dark metallic blue. From the moment I sat in the leather recaro seat, I knew that I was in for ..." Read review

Advantagesgood looks and performance to match, comfort and handling

Disadvantagesslightly weak brakes, some running costs

"...that sports the sensual ford racing blue (some may say imperial blue) and a modified rear bumper alowing two exit pipes from the exaust system and also not forgetting the lovely 17inch multi spoke wheels which in my mind makes the car somehow look more masculine and butch compared to that of the st24 which is also a fantastic car. over all the car looks more agressive and purpose full and we havent got to the best bit the engine!!! however i will ..." FORD MONDEO ST200 VERY FAST CAR

AdvantagesFast, Spacious, Reliable, Family Car to win the miss's over for having a fast car

DisadvantagesLimited amount made, expensive inurance

"...a must car for any Ford enthusiast that has a family to consider as well as wanting a car that will shift when you plant your foot firmly to the floor. The Mondeo ST 200, (201 BHP but the name sounds better rounded off). This is produced from a bullet proof Duratech 2544cc V6 engine. The car has traction control and ABS to help you in any emergency situation. The ST 200 was made from 1999 to 2000 on a T, V, W and X plate due to the revision ..." Read review

Now That's What I Call a Proper Car

AdvantagesPowerful, smooth, spacious, good spec, heated leather seats, understated, secure

DisadvantagesIt attracts undesirables

"...I called into the local Ford dealer on the way and ended up being persuaded into buying a 6 month old, jet black ST220 with all the bells and whistles for £10,000 less than the new list price. I spent the whole of the next week questioning my own sanity and worrying about the £150 hike in monthly payments and the probable increase in insurance premium (I didn't dare enquire). Then I picked the car up and have spent the last 12 months congratulating ..." Read review

Great Car

AdvantagesLooks fast, goes fast and is extremely comfortable.

DisadvantagesHigh fuel consumption and insurance group

"The Ford Mondeo ST200 is the latest special edition version of the Mondeo. For £23,000 (£10 more than an ST24 or a Ghia X), you get an extremely exclusive car that looks the part, and has the performance to match. Ford special engineering have managed to squeeze an extra 37 horsepower out of the 2.5 litre V6 Duratec engine, made by Mitsubishi. By fitting a double exhaust to increase the airflow of the engine, and changing the engine management chip, ..." Read review

ST220 a real wolf in sheeps clothing

AdvantagesBuild quality, performance, high specfication

DisadvantagesHigh tax brand, the look may start to date since the new model was released.

"...far. A trip to my local Ford dealer and a test drive soon cleared the idea of any compromise. For a start there was the price, a pre-registered 07 plate with 15 miles on the clock and £10,000 off list price. It was a steal. Running in took place over the next 3 weeks with a drive to Italy and back. 2,800 miles, averaging 31.5mpg and motorway cruising at about 80mph was pretty impressive. Even now it happily returns 27mpg under normal driving. Performance ..." Read review

Future Classic

AdvantagesCOMFORT, LOOKS, PERFORMANCE

DisadvantagesTIGHT ENGINE BAY FUEL ECONOMY (TO BE EXPECTED)

"Although never comparable to the Sierra Cosworth in terms of racing pedigree and cult status, dont cross this car off your list if you're looking for a quick car with comfort and space. Not been a fan of front wheel drive, I can honestly say the handling of these cars, especially considering the weight of them, is superb offering driver good feedback through the well weighted steering coupled together with a taught chassis that soaks up bumps well ..." Ford Mondeo ST220

AdvantagesComfortable, Fast, Modern

DisadvantagesNone

"...two years ago, the new Ford Mondeo has been crying out for a more powerful engine to exploit the excellent chassis. And now it has arrived. The long-awaited hot ST220 goes on sale in Britain this month, priced at £21,745 as a hatch or saloon, or £1,000 more for the estate. But is the right-hand-drive ST good enough to satisfy the keenest enthusiasts? After all, the ST200 version of the previous Mondeo failed to hit the target, suffering from a ..." Read review

A great car.

AdvantagesLooks, speed and comfort.

DisadvantagesFuel consumption.

"I've had the pleasure of using one of these for work and it was a great car, very fast in my opinion, sounded great and drove very smooth. The one I had was in metallic blue - a real eye catcher. It had half-leather seats that had a real sporty feel about them, it had air con, a six disc cd radio system, but not all of them come standard with one of those, power drivers seat height adjustment, front and side air bags. It had a 2.5-litre 24V Duratec ..." Read review

Thought it felt fast

AdvantagesWas fast (thanks to chip I now know), good looks / sound, s/h bargain

DisadvantagesIf you buy new you will lose a lot, high road tax (C02), avoid modified ones

"The ST220 is phenomenal! I always loved that Q car quality. It's rare enough and styling is solid, a bit aggressive and it gets drivers a bit nervous because it just hints that there might just be something ego-destroying underneath - but it's a subtle hint. Really great acceleration much stronger than the figures make you think although the figures are already very good. UPDATE: Lots of problems now with it - it seems some previous owner had ..." ST200, baby Muscle Car

AdvantagesEngine, Practicality, Handling, Appearance

DisadvantagesBrakes,

"Have owned my ST200 now for around about 10 months and still love this car, the power, the handling, a proper baby muscle car with its 2.5 V6 engine that sounds just so lush. With all the refinements you would expect from a family car, digital climate control, 6 CD Exchanger, Full electrics, but with all the looks of a sports car, from the RSA Bodykit, to the 17" alloys, twin Exit exhaust and Recaro Bucket seats for the front. The MPG is also very ..." Read review
