FORD PUMA 1.7 16v
=== Exterior ===
On first impressions the ford puma looks like a sleek coupe, and that is exactly what it is. The shape is curvy and stylish and the body sits close to the ground. My Puma is Medium Steel Blue in colour which can be seen in the attached images, and is a 1.7 standard car. However Ford made 4 different types of Puma and they can all be found on the road.
The standard 1.6 16v (which replaced the 1.4) or 1.7 16v range ... ...1000 in production, whilst the Ford Racing Puma, 1.7 was also limited but to just 500 with 160bhp, it has a greatly enhanced specification which can be researched if you are interested in buying one. Finally the Puma Thunder was introduced to mark the end of Puma production; it too has the 1.7 litre engine but also comes with added extras and come in a metallic grey/silver. I have found that externally my car polishes up well and sparkles when clean. ...

...to the Puma.
Prices. Ford no longer make the Puma and their second hand values are very high. When trading my Puma in, the salesman quoted me a price that was nearly a thousand pounds over the cars' trade value. The reason why is because there are more people wanting to buy these cars than they have to sell.
Who should buy a car like this. Someone who wants a small stylish car that handles well and doesn't have the excessively high premiums of ...

When my husband bought this car I was rather irate. £13,000 spent on a small tin box with four wheels seemed like a waste of money. However, on the quiet I really do quite enjoy driving it! THE CAR The car is small but sleek and sporty looking with only three doors. The boot, however, is miniscule and inadequate for even a main food shop (this is made even harder when your husband leaves everything in the boot – golf shoes, squash racquet, ... ...The lights are another grumble of mine. The full beam gets full marks, as it is excellent but the side-lights are very small and provide little light and they do not seem adequate for the job. THE CABIN From the front seats you could almost be inside a Fiesta. The dials are a different colour but most of the instruments are the same and similarly placed. It is all eerily familiar. The driver and passenger have plenty of room lengthwise but not widthwise; ...

...car. I'd looked at the Ford Ka and that was well within my budget and I was looking a brand new Luxury version. What put me off was the sheer number of them about and the fact that it didn't really have street cred.
I looked at the 206 which has some very good looks, but in the end again there are too many of them and I felt they were over priced. Then I thought of the Puma, ever since it came out, I knew there was something special but I had never ... ...the 206 and Puma isn’t fair, the 206 is a top of its class hot hatch. The Puma is in a whole different category. Maybe the only possible comparison would to a 206 CC, the gorgeous 206 open top with Mercedes SLK style working. However the 206 CC costs 15 – 16k new wheras the Puma costs under 13k. Also the 206 CC wasn’t available second hand as it had only just been released.
I had a budget of about 8 or 9k I went over this by quite a way, this is ...

...I test drove a green Ford Puma 1.7 and never looked back, I was in love. At the time the car had only been out a few months and there was a waiting list, but this didn’t bother me – more pose appeal! There were hardly any on the road and it's then unusual looks attracted many an eye.
I say all this now quite tongue in cheek because yes my new car brought me lots of attention but it has also won a place in my heart and I love it to pieces, ... ...Sierra Sapphire and previously a Ford Cortina. OK they had got me to many a rave and had plenty of stories to tell but they were oh so average. I wanted something different, something that said I was not a girl but a woman. Something I could drive to Brands for the BTCC with my head held high! And so I went to my local Ford dealer (ok Perry’s but don’t laugh yet).
I don’t understand the stats so well but for those that do:

...I have bought a Ford Puma some months ago. It wasn't new : 22.520 km. I choose the 1.7 liter engine (125 HP), a zetec one, a motor develloped by Yamaha for Ford. Before this buying, I had read some articles in the magazines and specialized press, which said that the best choice should be this car : original design, nice handling, power, comfort... Now, my personnel experience is : First I have choose this car for its really awesome look (with a big ... ...nice !, cd player (system Ford 6000 CD), air conditionning... etc... Leather option is really, really, a very good one, it’s like a different world with it !! Puma is little (a bit less than 4 meters long), and so it’s easy to park, and to drive in towns. When Ford eventually ended the Probe saga a few years back, I thought to myself " They should concentrate on what they know best".
Cheap reliable cars that suit either new drivers (Fiesta's), small families (Focus) and larger families (Mondeo's).
Leave the sportier hot hatch type cars to other manufacturers.
They had success in the past with The XR series of cars and the RS series.
The Fiesta and Escort both proved market winners in the 80's ... ...until the unveiling of the Ford Puma.
An instant success the world over. It was helped by a clever marketing advert utilising state of the art graphics with Steve McQueen superimposed into the car, nearly 20 years after his death.
An instant success with him driving the sleak Silver car, the majority of pumas seen on the UK roads were initially Silver.
They are now seen in a variety of colours on the road. This includes a very nice dark Blue that ...

I have been after a Ford Puma ever since they first came out, and have finally got the money to afford one.
I went to two garages and played them off against each other. I finally got a deal for a black Puma with the luxury pack and air con, with a £2k deposit, and £232 per month for 36 months on Options. The car came with a 3 year warranty, one years RAC cover, and 21 days free insurance.
I was impressed with the car from the minute I drove off. ... ...the aluminium spherical gear knob and matching facia, to the little triangle recesses in the dashboard that contain the indicator light displays. I used to own a Mk IV Fiesta Chicane (see my review), so the overall dashboard layout was very similar.(apart from the Air conditioning button, and the recirculation button).
I also love the exterior styling, from the low profile Pirelli P6000 195/50 VR15 tyres, and 9-spoke alloys, to the curves and lights ...

Having previously only driven an 80's Escort, a '93 Cinquecento, and a '92 Rover 214, you might not be surprised to hear that I absolutely adore my Puma. However, after almost a year of ownership, I have yet to emerge from the honeymoon period - it still makes me grin every time I drive it.
When considering what car to buy after my Rover, I knew I was ready, nay desperate, for something a little more sporty, but at the same time, not so sporty as ... ...It had received rave reviews by almost every motoring magazine and when I finally took the plunge, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it lived up to all of the hype.
While the acceleration could be a little better (0-60 in 8.8s), the handling is out of this world. Having once driven my boss's Clio Williams (one hell of a car, by the way), I'm proud to say that the Puma just about matches it for cornering. Not only does it hold the road beautifully, ...

...bought the car from a Ford Dealer on thier Options Scheme where you pay for half the car over three years on a credit deal and then either give it back or get a new ford and continue with the payments. Anyway, I put 2K down and pay £315 a month. This is where the bummer hits - the car was about 17K new and I have since heard that you can buy it for 2-3K less from one of these car warehouse places. Also, HSBC do a lease car deal and it was about £250 ... ...Anyway, the car is superb and drives like a dream, not super quick but superb fun when cornering. Ive had it for only 5 months from new, and not a bad word about to say about the cars performance! The car looks like its ready to perform, with its superb styling and "unique" lines. Then you get in, and you're seated in very confortable, hugging seats, that wouldn't be out of place in a sports car! The interior is very tidy, even though it is very "Fiesta". You start the engine, and pull off, and notice the incredible easy shift action of the gear ... ...to pick is the torque limiter that works in 1st gear, to protect from gear box damage. This flattens the revs slightly, but get into 2nd and forget about it! The in-gear acceleration is superb at any speeds, and the brakes are again top-notch! The steering is pin-point accuracy, and very "go-cartish". The handling is just far too good to believe! At less than 12 grand now (import), the car is just far too good! There doesn't seem to be a limit to ...

Advantages: Handling, Looks Disadvantages: Older models don't stop too well.
I have owned a Ford Puma for the last 12 months now, and prior to that I used to help build them. I am very happy with my car. It is a 1.7 vct Lux (2001, YReg).
The standard features on the Puma 1.7 are, electric windows, heated rear windscreen,cd player, abs, air conditioning, pas, alloy wheels, and traction control.
With the Lux pack, you also get Quick clear, heated front windscreen, electric mirrors, Puma embossed carpet mats and chrome scuff ... ...at stopping from speed, but Ford realised this problem and made the newer models with larger front brake discs on them.
The later Lux pack models also have a 6 disc cd stack system in as opposed to the standard 1 disc.
The performance of the Puma is very good, as is the engine. The 0-60 speed for the 1.7 is about 7.5 seconds and it will reach a top speed of 128 mph from the 1697cc, 127 bhp, vtec engine. The handling is about the best in it's class, ...

...an excellent little sporty coupe Ford have created. I bought this car second hand, the model is a Ford Thunder 1.7, and have never looked back. The performance is fantastic, based on the Ford Fiesta as a base but with a whole new chassis and Yamaha tuned engine you will be flying in this nippy car.

The Thunder model also comes with leather seats and electric mirrors/heated mirrors.
