Advantages Advantages Fast Paced, gripping story

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None at all

This is the latest offering from Dean Koontz, author of so many brilliant horror/suspense/thriller books. I believe Koontz is hard to categorise, he has his own unique genre. He has written loads of books, my personal favourites being "False Memory", "Seize the Night" and "Lightning". This one is the second book which features Odd, the first being "Odd Thomas". We are also promised a third in the series, "Brother Odd" which is released in November. I, for one, can hardly wait. This book is dedicated to Trixie, Koontz' dog who, if you visit Koontz' website, has a very amusing writing style ... more

Advantages Advantages A great read, gripping, page-turner

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as strong as some of Koontz's other novels

"Forever Odd" is the second in what has become a trilogy of novels about Odd Thomas, a 21-year-old man with supernatural talents and an ability to get himself caught up in just about every serious crime that happens in his home town of Pico Mundo. Odd's name could be a nickname given to him by his friends and colleagues because of his unusual abilities; more likely, it's because his dysfunctional parents got it wrong when they registered his birth - apparently his was supposed to be called Todd… Either way, Odd Thomas was born with the ability to see the dead, and - using them - Odd helps Pico ... more

Advantages Advantages not a bad story but nothing amazing or ground-breaking and quite formulaic

Disadvantages Disadvantages Majorly disappoints after the impact of it's predecessor.,....

FOREVER ODD takes Koontz's best-loved character, from his self-titled debut novel, and gives him a second outing set in the sleepy town of Pico Mundo. It is unusual for Koontz to write a sequel as normally his collected works stand alone but it is not without precedent; previously Koontz has written two back-to-back novels about another character named Jonathan Snow who suffers a rare skin condition that means he can only come out at night. Odd has his own peculiarity as fans of Koontz will recall; Odd Thomas sees dead people- namely those spirits who linger with something left unresolved ... more

Advantages Advantages Another Dean Koontz book

Disadvantages Disadvantages A rather ordinary Dean Koontz book

This is the second Dean Koontz novel to feature Odd Thomas, the reluctant hero from the first book of the same name. For those of you who have not read the first book, Thomas is a rather modest, self deprecating character who shares the Hobbit like quality of not seeking adventure or danger; it tends to find him regardless. Thomas has the ability to see and have limited interaction with the troubled souls of the dead, those who are reluctant to move on because some unfinished business prevents them from doing so. On the lighter side, one of Thomas' ghostly companions is an earthbound Elvis who ... more

Advantages Advantages Keeps you entertained and moves at a good pace.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn't give out the same emotion as the first Odd Thomas story.

I thought this second installment of Odd was a brilliant read. It keeps you entertained from start to finish. The story is based on Dean Koontz's hero Odd Thomas who solves crimes and takes down back guys with the aid of his supernatural powers. The story isn't as emotionally gripping as the first Odd Thomas novel (which is a must read) but still moves along at a nice pace and always leaves you wanting the next chapter. Dean Koontz has an uncanny way of painting characters into your mind and this story is no different, although the relationship with his friend is a bit weak at times the ... more
