Advantages: 4 novel-length King stories in one volume. Disadvantages: Some cliché ideas and narration.
...any fiction genre. In these four stories, he focuses on his old favourite - horror, with an equally pleasing sci-fi interlude in the form of the first story, 'The Langoliers'.
The Langoliers -
This is the first book in the collection and aptly titled 'One past midnight; The Langoliers'. It begins from the view of an airline pilot, Captain Brian Engle. Just into the airport after a particularly rough flight, he is given the disturbing information ... ...and unable to understand what has happened, the airport arranges a seat for him on the next aeroplane home. So he gets on board and falls to sleep fitfully.
When Brian awakes, he finds himself alone in his section of the plane but, as he walks into other compartments he realises that he's not the only passenger left. There's Dinah Bellman, a blind girl who's sight seems to extend past that of normal vision, Albert and Bethany - confused teenagers, ...

...new and terrifying world.
Four Past Midnight: four heart-stopping accounts of that moment when the familiar world fractures beyond sense, the fragments spinning away from the desperate clutching reaches of sanity…"
As the blurb suggests, Four Past Midnight is another spine-tingler from Stephen King. The edition I have runs to nearly 1000 pages, so it does look a bit off-putting at first. However, as it's spilt into 4 separate stories, it does make ... ...twists near the end.
Four Past Midnight: The Sun Dog
For his 15th birthday Kevin Delevan receives a Sun 660 Polaroid camera, which he coveted over all his other presents. Naturally, he starts to play with the camera and takes his first photograph. The anticipation builds as the machine whirs and spits out the first photograph, the family waits with eagerness. The photo doesn't come out quite right, so he takes some more. But something's not quite ...

...of macabre himself composed of four chilling short stories or novellas. If you love horror stories that can drive you into paranoia and have you sleeping with the lights on THIS IS THE PERFECT NOVEL TO READ. This book is composed of very different and intensely chilling novellas. These are: The Langoliers: This begins where passengers who have been sleeping on a plan wake up to find they are alone and that those who were awake have disappeared; and ... ...but I am going to tell you that from there, things take a horrifying turn, and no, it's nothing like the average airplane movie and does not include terrorists. Secret Window Secret Garden: A man accused of plagarism
The Library Policeman: You have to read this. This is just sick, and scary. It's about the main character sam who has a terrifying encounter with "the library policeman" when he was younger and is now afraid to set foot in a library.

Advantages: Well written. Disadvantages: Requires some level of maturity
This is a very well written book. The stories are short but very interesting. A good read on a sunday afternoon. The first story 'the langoliers' is very chilling and quite odd in places but was by far my favourite story in the book. 'Secret Window, Secret Garden' Is well written and will suprise the reader. The library policeman is a very odd story. It is in parts quite mature and in parts unbelievable. But somehow Stephen King makes it work. The ...

...== The Book ==
Four Past Midnight is a collection of four stories - titled one past midnight, two past midnight, three past midnight and four past midnight. Each one also has it's own sub-title.
=== One Past Midnight - The Langoliers ===
The Langoliers is a story about a red-eye flight, something happens midair and they end up in some kind of parallel universe. There is no electric in this universe and there is a strange sound in the distance ... ...the library policemen?
=== Four Past Midnight - Sun Dog ===
Sun Dog is an ok story, although not as good as the first two. It is about a boy named Kevin who, for his 15th birthday gets a polaroid camera, the exact one he wanted. He takes a photo of his family but his sister knocks the camera off a table and it gets damaged. When he gets the first photo out of it he is shocked to see a photo of a scary looking dog in front of a white picket fence.
