Quick start guide
The drive comes in 3 capacities - but obviously, as per this review, I opted for the 500GB drive.
One reason for choosing the Seagate drive, is that they are one of the best producers of HardDrives on the market, that along with their 5 year warranty on the drive is a definate plus for me.
Getting it set up is very quick and easy, you dont need to be ... ...XP ( which most people would be running these days ) its literally plug and play.
Connect the power cable, and power on.
Connect the USB2 cable, then connect the USB lead to your PC. This drive is USB2 ( also known as high speed USB ) however, if you dont have USB2 ports on your PC, then no problem, as the drive is backward compatible, in that you can connect it to your standard USB1.1 port, and it will still run. Im not too sure what speeds will ...

Advantages: cheap - all that it is Disadvantages: poor structure, prone to overheating, not reliable
...external hard drive the Seagate FreeAgent Desktop caught my eye. It looked appealing with a massive 500GBs and 5 year limited warrenty as standard. I thought it was great value for money.
The dimensions are (WxDxH) 4 cm x 16.2 cm x 19 cm and it is 0.9kg in weight.
This product is black in colour with a yellow strip of light which is constantly on, though it isn't too bright so i had no problems there. It's Interface Type is Hi-Speed USB and has ... ...Spindle Speed of 7200 rpm.
These are also compatible with the following -

Advantages: Not damaged by drops; fast transfer of data; Disadvantages: US to UK plug adapter
Another great product by Seagate. When I read initial reviews I was extremely sceptical however decided to go with gut instinct and bought one. I am extremely happy with it, the transfer rate between computer and hard drive is fast and it runs extremely quietly. Despite several times where it has been dropped from a reasonable height (accidently) it stills works perfectly and there has been no loss of data at all. The only problem that I have is ... ...is the adapter that converts the American plug to a UK one. This is quite large and means that you could have trouble plugging it or may have to take up 2 plugs by plugging it in.
Overall an excellent product and I would have no hesitation in buying one. ...

Advantages: Easy to use, Quick, Painless, Plenty of memory for all you will ever need, Fast, good looking Disadvantages: Slightly annoying light although this can look quite nice
I would like to start by stating that I have been the owner of this product for less than six months and can therefore be no judge on long term efficiency. However in the time I have had it, it has been brilliant. As soon as I plugged it in to my computer a very helpful manager program appeared without the use of a CD which made it very simple to either transfer all my files or select certain ones I wished to back up.
I also use the hard drive as ... ...and this machine has been able to cope with being moved and rearranged many times. It also works as well on the other computers in my house without any errors or confusion. The massive memory on this machine provides ideal storage for anything you could ever need however its only downside is that it comes initially with lots of preloaded instructions etc in various other languages that do take up some of its capacity. However these can easily be ...

Advantages: Looks good and easy to use Disadvantages: None really - transfer speed could be better but could be down to my computer as much as anything
I have never had any major problems with this hard drive reliabilitty wise it's very good - the transfer speed isn't excellant but it does the job, and i generally use it it for bulk storage/ backup and i normally have it set it off copying in the background so i don't notice it too much anyway, and it's quite too which helps.
In my opinion for a desktop external hard drive it has a very good design, and is smaller than some with the same disk space.
