    With analogue TV on the way out it was time to get to grips with the TV future of our home. We have cable from Virgin Media but I was looking for a cheaper alternative and one that was perhaps a bit different from the usual freepay boxes. I found such a device on riverstream.co.uk for a pricey sum of 16.97 plus 99p postage. It promptly arrived just 2 days later and I was keen to seen the outcome on my new computer.     I got one of these to add extra digital services to my household on my PC as I thought it would be good to watch a bit of TV whilst doing some Uni work or general web browsing, the price was excellent and the unit is quite a lot smaller than other digi boxes or TV boxes for the PC so that was a plus. Initial installation wasn't too difficult, install the drivers, plug in the stick and the PC does the rest for you. However, the supplied software leaves much to be desired, it is rather slow, hard to navigate and switching between channels seems to take a while - plus it uses a lot of computer ... more

    I've had this thing since mid-2006, so I've pretty much seen all the ups and downs with it. Firstly, the provided aerial is not brilliant, but provided you're in a strong signal area, you'll have no problems. Do consider the fact that you may need to connect it to a loft/roof aerial. Secondly, the software is fully functional, but it lacks in some areas. For example, you'll need to have 2 channel listing files set up, one for day time television, and one for night. This is because the stick doesn't recognise channels that are off air at certain times, so you'll have to step in here yourself ... more

    Summary: I cannot recommend this unless there is a major re-working of the software. Have had my unit for a few months and I use it on a notebook, for which this (portable) device is primarily designed. The unit handles just TV (running no other apps on your notebook) pretty well. Unfortunately, my video memory is shared and the moment you try and hop a few channels the Freecom tends to struggle. I know this is a combination of the shared graphics and the Freecom, but I have no way of upgrading my video memory so have to live with it! The software looks bad and under-performs.     This TV stick is absolutly great for watching and recording digital TV. However the arial that is supplied isn't very good and it depends on where you are situated to how good a reception you get. In my case not a very good one so i hooked it up to the mains arial absolutly superb :) records fantastically aand picture quality is great

    I own one of these and think is is not value for money as it needs a strong signal to get anything like a good picture if a picture at all. I have not seen many good reports about the Freecom stick and would not recommend buying one.. There might be an updated vertion out by now, I do not know, but I purchased mine in late 2004..

    This is a brilliant product. It is very easy to use with just plugging in, putting the disk in and opening the programme. If you have vista, you may have to download the drivers of freecom's website however, it is supported and can be used in Windows Media Center. The tv can be a bit jumpy but use the extension cable and attach it to a window with the included suction pad and you should have no trouble. Lots of channels, all that are included with freeview plus also the radio.     I have had this stick for over a year now and it has already broken. When i had the stick the picture kept stuttering and the quality wasn't that good either even though it was getting full signal. The bundled software isn't that good and i would recommend looking on the internet for other software. The only reason i bought this receiver because it was one of the cheapest but you get what you pay for. The stick broke a few months after i bought it and i haven't bothered to inquire why. When i start the software it just comes up with an error "input device not detected" . The only use i have ... more

    This stick is available in 4 versions. The current version (as of Feb 2008) is v4. This is a good DVB-T USB stick, but the software provided with it is next to useless, as is the mini-aerial supplied. On Windows XP, the software appears to work, scans and receives channels, but doesn't actually display any video (sound only). Generic DVB drivers are available that can be used with other DVB software. However, to supply software that doesn't work properly is inexcusable for a major supplier like Freecom. Additionally, I do not know of any decent free DVB software in Windows. Hence the less than ... more
