...bought to replace my old freecom 40gb drive. Once when using it on a desktops front usb port, i knocked it with my knee and it snapped the connector. Due to this I thought I would go for a toughdrive and I have not been dissapointed. I use it weekly and keep it loose in my laptop bag with no real concern for its safety. No chance of the connector breaking here as its a sealed floppy rubbery affair! also there is a magnet on the clip so it wont become ... ...on several pc's, laptops and servers without any issue. I often use it for my work on a server that will only have one or two USB ports and neither are in a good postion so I have to leave the drive hanging from the USB port and still no issues.
Never needed to use supplied software. ...

Advantages: seemed sturdy and well-liked Disadvantages: actually stopped working within a month of purchase date
...One marketed feature of the Freecom Toughdrive is that it derives its power from the USB port, and hence doesn't require any extra plugs. As a consequence, they are not sold with the necessary component to operate properly with low-powered notebooks. Quick review of Freecom ToughDrive Pro Hard drive 160 GB
I have been very impressed with this drive - it feels sturdy, it has a built in usb cable (so you can't forget it) and the rubber coating feels like it would protect the drive if it was dropped (I haven't tested this aspect - however carrying it around in my bag for a year it has suffered bumps).
Contrary to the other reviewer I have used this drive on both a Vaio and a MacBook Air and it has worked flawlessly ...
