    Advantages Advantages Free Domain Name

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only access through dial up

When every other company was plugging their "free" internet service where you only paid for the phone calls, freenetname went on better. They charge no monthly fee, local dial in costs and then threw in a domain name! Ease To Install: I didn't have any problems installing/setting up the connection. Mind you, it has to be said that I work with computers all day, so I would hope that I don't have any problems with something like setting up an internet connection. But it all looked pretty simple to me. Knowing what you connect to: I always like to know all the individual settings, what the mail ... more

Advantages Advantages Free domain name with 20mb of web space.

Disadvantages Disadvantages £94 to transfer your domain name.

In a World of numerous Internet Service Providers(ISP) you require a gimmick to get noticed and Freenetname's is unsurprisingly a free net name. Unfortunately for quite a while Freenetname was little more than just a free domain name but that is changing as recently they have joined forces with Infospace who now provide their specialist content. Sport, finance, entertainment, news and all the other general things you would to expect to find are now covered via Infospace. The web site is quite well laid out but resembles a web portal as most of the links are external. There is a directory type ... more

Advantages Advantages Free .co.uk domain name, 20mb web space, technical support

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow webspace

Before I even begin to express my opinion I must make it clear that if you want to know how many email addresses and webspace you get from freenetname.co.uk then I suggest you visit their website. I will let you know what I would want to know about them. Basically, as most ISPs (Internet Service Providers) do tend to offer the same in terms of fundamental features (e.g. local call rate access, x number of email addresses, etc.) it sometimes takes quite a bit of effort to stand out from the crowd. This is precisely, in my opinion, what Freenetname.co.uk has managed to achieve. The advantages of ... more

Advantages Advantages Free, Free Domain, Quick, Reliable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Must use their dial-up for a lot of services

Mostly freenetname is known for the fact that they offer you a free domain, however, the service does go beyond that. As far as I have tried, freenetname is the most reliable and quickest free ISP I have ever used. The reiability is good and disconnects are rare. Connection lags are also very rare and download speeds are brilliant for a free ISP (they are as fast as most pay-for-ISP's). They also offer you a free domain (registration + hosting). The only down side being that you have to connect to the internet via their dial-up to upload information or download email. Apart from that though ... more

Advantages Advantages fast, free, you get a web domain

Disadvantages Disadvantages have to be using their dial ups to check mail.

Freenetname are an exellent ISP. They provide a reasonably fast connection, e-mail, a free .co.uk or .org.uk web domain, and redirect it to their servers where you can build your own website about whatever you like. Freenetname are nearly always in operation, in the last 6 months I have only known them to be offline on one occasion, which is much better than many other ISP's. Freenetnames newsgroup facility is exellent, providing many more groups than other ISP's. Everyone should use this service, especially those who need a website, as freenetname refrain from filling your website with ... more

    Advantages Advantages FREE domain name

Disadvantages Disadvantages cannot access emails externally, cost of transferring domain name to another host

Well of course the offer of a free domain name (.co.uk) attracted me to using Freenetname as my ISP. And if you are an individual or a small business who wants a standard website of text and pictures then they offer you plenty of server space. Their customer support is good and I have never experienced an engaged tone when dialing them up. Their speeds seem pretty normal / good too. The only disadvantages I can see are if you want to transfer your domain name to another host it will cost you, but then the average person won't want to do this. And you cannot access your emails from elsewhere ... more

Advantages Advantages Free access, free domain

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Some people are never happy are they? Judging by some of the other reviews on this ISP you would think that Freenetname was actually a bad ISP. Nonsense!! This is great ISP, and free. Remember that it wasn't too long ago that a £15 monthly subscription charge was commonplace, and you still had to pay for calls. Freenetname has NO subscription charge, and calls are charged at local rate. You do not need to use them as your full time ISP either, dial in once every six weeks to keep your account active. At off-peak 1p a minute you can dial in nine times per year and it will only cost 45p. Where ... more

    Advantages Advantages Free domain

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Could introduce banners

As far as ISP's go Freenetname is pretty good. The service appears to be stable and fast, and I have never had an engaged tone. As a BT Internet customer this really is a novelty! The terms of Freenetname are that you use the dial-up at least once every six weeks. If you have a website hosted with them then you would probably want to update it more often anyway, so that should not be a problem. The calls are at local rate, 1p a minute at weekends, so it won't break the bank to dial in every few weeks for a few minutes. The downside is that they say that they 'reserve the right to include ... more

Advantages Advantages Free Domain name (.co.uk/.org.uk)

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Awfully slow websites

OK, I can't complain, I got a free domain name out of them, but their web servers are so slow I only use it for redirection anyway! Connecting to them is fast enough, but apart from that they're bad. You can't receive your email from another ISP and lets face it, the main reason you would join FNN is to get your domain name, meaning your main interest will most likely be websites. Surely they must know this, but their speeds suggest they don't. I now use NTL for holding most of my pages, graphics and other files, and I recommend if you can't do that yourself, sign up to Club 24 (www.club24.co ... more

Advantages Advantages fast isp with excellent free service and domain

Disadvantages Disadvantages how long can it last

I have used alot of free ISP. I originally settled on Freeserve despite: a) taking ages to log on (more often than not it passed your username and password twice) b) limited news groups c) difficult to understand and use free web space All these have been overcome with freenetname. Your domain is entirely yours ie. you can have a domain like www.mysurname.co.uk rather than the longwinded freeserve one. Also the service is excellent and free!!!! No more 50p per minute which can really rack it up. So if you are thinking about a free isp try freenetname there brilliant. ... more
