FinePix - Super Pics

Advantages: Easy to use, High Quality images
Disadvantages: Short battery life, Poor visibility in dark conditions

I Decided to buy a digital camera since i have never really had a camera that was capable of taking really good pictures. I spent a while browsing the many different cameras and eventually settled upon this camera. I bought the camera for a little under £180, reduced from £190. It seemed to be a very good price for all of the features it boasted, such as a larger than average LCD screen. It came with a 16MB smart card (which i have found out is one ...
...is probably enough to take 40 - 45 images at the default resolution. The camera itself is a small (but not pocket sized) and compact camera that is easy to use and looks like a proper proffessional cammera. The features of the camera are as follows, which i will comment on each in turn:- @ 2.0 million pixels @ 1.8 inch LCD screen @ 6x optical zoon, 2.5x digital zoom, @ 5 Flash modes @ Video Mode @ Picture Voice annotations @ Self-Timer @ Various ...

A fine Fuji

Advantages: Good price,small,good looking
Disadvantages: No AC adaptor,No case

I have for many years been reluctant to move into the digital age being a solid fan of film, using my excellent Minolta Dynax 500Si SLR camera. However this had to change especially after my local film processing shop went bust and I just never got round to getting my film developed anymore! I started to do some research on the internet and quickly found good reviews of the Fuji 2800. This camera seemed to offer most of the features that I was ...
...It was reasonably small, looked a bit like a traditional SLR and had an excellent optical zoom that would mean that I could expect to get similar shots with this camera as I was doing with my Minolta. Price wise I couldn't beat Amazon who had it on sale for £189 but with some vouchers to credit against this I got my shiny new digital camera for only £170! To date the camera has not disappointed! When it arrived several days prior to Amazon's own ...

A 570mm Zoom Digital Camera

Advantages: upto 570mm zoom, movie mode, macro, a complete photography solution in one package
Disadvantages: slow to focus and shoot, no manual focus, advertising in software, registration terms and conditions

Fuji FinePix 2800Zoom This digital camera is another in Fuji`s fine lineage. But I`m confused as to why other manufacturers aren`t offering any competition! No competition? It`s true, there is no competition in the sub-£500 digital camera market for a model with the equivalent of a 570mm zoom. What`s even more amazing is that I managed to pick mine up for just £269 brand spanking new. The full zoom option is only available in VGA resolution mode, ...
...publishing. Even in high-resolution (2 megapixel - the highest) mode, you still have access to the 6x optical zoom, which equates to approximately 228mm. In between you also have access to the 2x digital zoom. At 1 megapixel resolution, when combined with the optical zoom, it can achieve a maximum zoom equivalence of approximately 285mm. The camera has two display options. The main rear display, a 2.7 inch square CCD, and a 0.55 inch square LCD ...

Nearly a very fine Fuji

Advantages: Small, easy to use, reasonable results
Disadvantages: Poor LCD display, gimmicky features

I have been involved in photography for quite some time, always using film as my medium of choice, and I was very happy to receive a Fuji Finepix 2800 zoom from my wife as a present for my birthday. This was my first foray into digital imaging, and I was looking forward to "instant" quality photo's. The camera itself is very small, and Fuji have designed it to look like a small SLR camera, also containing a small built-in flash. The flash itself has ...
...a little feeble. In poor light it employs infra-red focusing, the same as the camera itself. The 2800 focuses well enough in good light, but is very slow in poor lighting conditions, and sometimes can't find focus at all.The main selling point of this camera is the zoom range of the lens as it has a 6 times optical and 2.5 digital zoom range, which is quite phenominal. The zoom range is equivalent to 38-228mm on a 35mm camera, and such lenses don't ...

What a great camera

Advantages: A good solid camera, excellent features and good software
Disadvantages: Not bundled with enough memory

Imagine the scene, Heathrow airport, about to jet off to South Africa on Safari, and whats the one thing we forgot to pack … a camera. Oh well, time to have a look around Dixons as we’ve checked in and are just waiting for the gates to open in about 3 hours time! After about an hour of mulling it over, probably to the amusement of the staff I settled on the Finepix 2800 and never looked back. The camera itself is very old school in its look, just ...
...on the front of the camera it is very easy to hold one handed, although if you are doing this I would recommend wrapping the included carry strap around your wrist just in case. Its silver design is very pleasing and aesthetically I don’t think many improvements could have been made. The supplied documentation is very clear and well laid out, in a small pocket sized book that is very easy to carry around, while your still learning how to use the ...

Digital Dreams

Advantages: A massive Optical lens
Disadvantages: Carry case is extra and the LCD display is dark.

Fuji have managed to produce a high quality 2.1 mega pixel digital camera for less than £300. So what I hear you cry, well, if you look at what you get then you cannot fail to be impressed. For starters, the Fuji Finepix 2800 is equipped with a massive 6 x optical lens, for those of you who don't know how this compares to a standard SLR camera, this is similar to a 200mm zoom lens. This is all done inside a camera that is incredibly light. In addition ...

The camera comes complete with 4 AA batteries (not rechargeables unfortunately) and a 16Mb smart media card, this should be more than capable of holding all the images you could ever require, if you shoot using VGA mode you can get up to 122 images on it before you have to ...

Hold Me Tightly

Advantages: ergonomically sound
Disadvantages: video capture poor

I'm a great fan of digital cameras (call me sad) and this one is one of the best in my collection. I paid £270 for it, and its certainly proved to be a winner with me! What attracted me most about it? Well the tag saying 6x optical zoom of course. It's not often you find a digicam with a zoom of much more than 3x or 4x, so 6x at this price was a real novelty as price seems to increase exponentionally with each zoom increase. On top of that a 2x ...
...to get in really close and I find that a superb bonus. Ergonomics are very important if you plan to use a camera for a long time. This camera is quite good here too, and fits nicely into your hand enabling you to hold it tightly. If you're left handed or have extra large hands then you may find this awkward as there is a firm grip on the right hand side to hold the camera. The buttons can be used easily with the thumb whilst maintaining a good grip ...

It's almost great!

Advantages: Good quality images, zoom lens
Disadvantages: Slow to focus, no AC adaptor

I've been the proud owner of my Fuji 2800 zoom for nearly a year now. Upgrading from my previous camera (fixed 640x480 resolution, no flash, battery hungry) has been a revelation. If only people who didn't see the first generation of camera could see where we started, they might appreciate the features more. First, the good things. The images produced by the camera are excellent - I was especially impressed when I tried out macro photography for ...
...camera itself is comfortable to hold, the design being highly ergonomic and feels like a good quality SLR in the hand. Even though I'm left handed, I don't find the right hand moulding a disadvantage, though some might. Flash mode was a little disappointing until I bothered to read the manual and found the anti-redeye feature, which works well. As for the bad points, there's only one that I would single it out for - the speed of the autofocus. ...

Fuji the future of Digital cameras

Advantages: Excellent Zoom, great value for money, sleek design, user friendly, feature packed
Disadvantages: power hungry,

When I was looking to get my first Digital camera I looked at various different models to try and get all the features I wanted which were primarily, a large zoom and an SLR like performance, having been using SLR's for all my adult life I was sceptical about the picture quality and perfomance capabilites of Digtial cameras within my price range (under £300) so after much searching I came across the Fuji Fine Pix 2800 Zoom, it certainly looked the ...

Great Family Camera

Advantages: Brilliant Zoom lens, lots of modes, looks the business
Disadvantages: A bit on the bulky side, eats batteries for breakfast

Overall, this is a great camera for the price. Having been around £330 on release, it can now be found for £240 or less. The picture quality of this camera is very good. The highest resolution mode takes photos at 2.0 megapixels, which is ample quality unless you're a professional photographer. Unless they're completely horizontal, straight edges do show up slightly pixellated in photos, although that's a problem which applies to digital cameras ...
...with picture quality. There are many different photography modes programmed into the 2800 Zoom. All the basics are there, like continuous shooting, but there are a few extras, like voice captioning, macro, and supressed flash, which can be useful. Once you've learned the controls, this camera is very easy to use. It is menu-driven and the menu can be viewed on the LCD screen or through the viewfinder. Just make sure you don't press the on/off button ...

Fuji or not Fuji

Advantages: Very simple to use with excellent features
Disadvantages: LCD is no use in poor light, not so hot for action shots

This was my first digital camera purchase, so I trailed all the web sites for information on what would suit me most. I'm so glad I did all the spade work first. I've had this camera now for about 2 years, along with the additional media card (64Meg), carry case, re-chargeable batteries and charger it cost me a total of £315. A Bargain at the time. But take a look at what you can get for that price now. The quality of picture this camera takes astounded ...

Fuji choices for all

Advantages: Good picture quality options. Excellent zoom. Lightweight. Good basic movie feature
Disadvantages: Bulky when carried around your neck. No case when bought.

The Fuji finepix 2800 is a great value digital camera. Picture quality settings can be altered. For pictures taken with 2 megapixels the quality options are Fine (best), Normal (medium) or Low (lowest quality). For 1 megapixel pictures the quality can be altered between Fine and Normal. Fine quality photo's taken with 2 megapixels are the best photo's that you can take, however they use up more memory on the card, but they produce excellent photographs. ...
...out with a small memory card. I would highly reccommend purchasing 128mb. If you have a 128mb memory card you can get 166 best quality photographs saved. This does not include video clips, as the 1 minute video can use up a lot of your memory. The movie feature is definetly ideal to capture those one off memories. However it can only be used in really good light. The microphone doesn't pick up sounds very clearly if distant, but close up is fine. ...

Finepix 2800 Zoom

Advantages: Price, style, looks
Disadvantages: Its inability to take action shots

I always think it best to start off with the good points of any item, and this review will be no exception. Firstly it is made by Fujifilm, who are a highly thought of camera manufacturer, so in theory you should get good build quality and after sales service. The camera is of a similar design to a conventional SLR camera, which I personally prefer. The instructions are quite simple to understand, and the menus on the camera itself a joy to use. ...
...on the camera, and it is just as easy to view the pics back on your PC. The price is the best part of the whole package. I have owned mine for about 18 months now and had to pay £350, but you can now get this package for £150 if you look around. Now for the bad points, and I'm afraid to say it does have a few. I don’t want to give anyone any false impressions so I will be as honest as I can. This camera eats batteries for breakfast, lunch ...

Impressive, for a digital camera

Advantages: Nice resolution and colouring. Digital is useful.
Disadvantages: Eats batteries, nowhere near as good as a nice SLR

I personally like "real" cameras - my SLR gives me good control, versatility, and great results. However, as a digital camera, the FJ Finepix 2800Zoom is great for the price (£200), nice and compact and not too heavy. The 2 megapixel resolution, aided by the powerful 6x optical (that's real, not just enlarging pixels) zoom, allows the camera to capture adequate levels of detail, and colours appear bright and strong. The option of a digital viewfinder ...
...(4xAA) that the full-size screen eats up, although neither can do the high-resolution photos actually taken any justice. There aren't many detailed features such as exposure length, and there's no option to add special lenses, but those features aren't really needed to justify the camera's price tag. The menu buttons, however, make those features available hard to access, especially with your eye on the viewfinder. Video - something my SLR can't ...

Other angles to consider ...

Advantages: VERY good value
Disadvantages: Bundle not great; power-hungry.

I agree with all of the opinions so won't reiterate but to say the camera is great value for money and goes a bit beyond point-and-shoot if you want to. I bought mine in the States, where an extra 128 mb card set me back $50. A few other ideas worth considering: Memory cards need not be that expensive (I since bought 2 more 64mb for £16.75 each) and add versatility and resilience. That gives me enough storage for hundreds of shots before I have ...
...normal use to give best results and because I have all that memory. However, VGA is perfectly adequate and much more space/time efficient if you're attaching to emails or e-publishing. The on-board software seems to pack data efficiently, as WinZip could only save about 3%. Typically, a hi-res pic gets shrunk to around 500k - 700k bytes. I, too, found the camera ate batteries, especially when connected to the PC (or otherwise using the LCD display). ...
