Advantages Advantages Feature loaded, excellent lens, adjustable screen

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly heavy

Digital cameras are a very strange thing. The huge variety and baffling list of specifications makes it difficult to choose a product which best suits your ideal requirements. It is safe to assume that the majority of users are now digitally minded but what do we look for in a potential purchase? From personal experience and also anecdotal evidence the main choices seem to cover three basic areas: 1) Strong brand name 2) Megapixel value 3) Optical zoom Let's quickly establish the common misunderstandings: 1) Buying an established brand is a guide only. Manufacturers generally make products for ... more

Advantages Advantages Lots of features but at the end of the day: great quality shots with an amazing zoom lens

Disadvantages Disadvantages shutter speed can be quite slow at times, use of 4 AA batteries adds to the weight of camera

This is a great camera for with all round good functionality and quality. It’s a bridging camera at the end of the day and you have to remember that but it’s so much better than using a compact camera in terms of results and option and there are situations where the lens is so useful that it’s better than having an SLR around – it’s much smaller than an SLR too so you can still carry it around without too much hassle. The superzoom is amazing: 30x optical zoom just can’t be beaten. The starting point for the lens is a wide angle which can then be zoomed to an amazing level so you have the best ... more

Advantages Advantages long zoom lens, uses rechargeable batteries, manual zoom and focus rings

Disadvantages Disadvantages much dearer than the competition, picture quality not stupendous

If it had a larger, slightly higher resolution sensor of around 12+ MP I reckon that many people currently in the market for an entry-level DSLR would buy this Fuji Finepix HS10 instead - mainly due to its chunky feel, fantastic manually-operated 30x zoom lens (with manual focus) and use of four ordinary AA rechargeable batteries. However, in terms of pure image quality I don't think HS10 takes pictures on a par with those from another bridge camera I bought recently - the Panasonic DMC-FZ38, which is smaller, lighter, cost over a hundred quid less and was much easier to source. But FZ38 only ... more

Advantages Advantages 30x zoom sharp photos great slow mo and all round a good camera

Disadvantages Disadvantages little cluttered menus and and a fairly lengthy time between shots

The HS10 is expensive, but it’s easy to see why. the 30x zoom lens is something that i for one have never seen before. Of course the zoom wouldn,t be very good if it was hard to adjust and such but fuji have nailed it with the lens rings for adjusting zoom and focus. These work much better than buttons or levers in my opinion. Design The design is a clean good looking black camera which looks good and is not to big but the looks would be nothing if it was hard to use but they have that covered as well with a strip of buttons to the left of the screen for ISO speed , focus mode and focus area ... more

Advantages Advantages excellent lens with 30x zoom, AA batteries, screen can rotate

Disadvantages Disadvantages slow writting speed, slow startup, small sensor

i bought this camera a couple of months ago and was sceptical regarding the lens which is fixed to the body and can not be changed. When it arrived and i started testing it i found out why this was not even a dissadvantage. The 30x digital zoom that the lens provides is more than enough for taking everyday photos. It is packed with functions and is more than enough for the use i need it. what i look for in a camera are: weight --------- the camera is not heavy (with no batteries it weights 636g) and can be easily carried around. the strap that comes with it is not of the best quality but can ... more

    Advantages Advantages panorama, size, weight.

Disadvantages Disadvantages night shoot. Won't work with 2900 NiMh batteries

Having owned the HS10 for 3 months I have found it to be generally excellent. Being the owner of large hands, I have to have a larger camera as I struggle to use smaller compact digital cameras. There is an embarrassment of features on this model, most of which I haven't even got to yet. There are settings for everyone from the complete novice up to well versed camera nerd. I am a little unimpressed by the night shooting ability, where it struggles for focus and the flash takes time to recharge. I also keep inadvertently pressing the review button with my thumb. The flash also gets in the way ... more

Advantages Advantages Amazing zoom, Only one lense, Full HD, Panoramic photos

Disadvantages Disadvantages Uses AA batteries - don't last as long, pressing record button slow to respond

The camera is great: I like the zoom, however, others may prefer to change the zooms though. The camera is great value for money. It has a 30x zoom, going from 24mm to 720mm. If you want a good camera with a great zoom for a good price, this is the camera, a lot cheaper than the DSLR equivalent. There are, however, a few downsides. The camera uses normal AA batteries, and while you can replace these with rechargeable ones, it does not have the same battery life as a custom lithium battery, though it means if you do run out of power, it should be easy to find new batteries. The video recording ... more
