The Fuji FinePix S1000fd is very SLR-like in appearance and the added bulk of the battery-holder/grip does give it an assured feeling in your hands. Of course, this can be a disadvantage, and if you want a camera that you can just slip in-and-out of your pocket, then maybe a slimmer compact should be considered. The 12x optical zoom is excellent and it equates to 33-396mm in 35mm terms - and if this isn't enough, there is a 5.7x digital zoom feature ...
...and there are helpful explanatory prompts that appear on thew LCD screen when the mode-dial setting is changed. This camera is designed for those amateur photographers who want a bit more than your snap shot camera. It has a great 12x optical zoom which i found gave clear landscape and potrait photos. It also has an additional 5x digital zoom but I did find this to be a bit grainy. The camera isn't too bulky so is easy to carry around. I found that the batteries didn't last too long especially if you play back your photos on the large lcd screen. On the whole I loved this camera.and was very pleased with the pictures I got from it. ...

After a succession of digital cameras, my samsung started eating batteries, a replacement was needed, and the SF1000 seemed ideal; 10 mp and a 12X zoom. It was on offer in a local camera shop at £130, so I bought it. They threw in a 4m sd card, so off I went, shooting everything. This a fantastic camera for beginners who wish to start taking more serious photos, but aren't ready for the comminment of the more high tech digital SLRs, or who can't afford one. The first thing you notice when getting this camera out of the box is just how small it is. Now don't let this fool you into thinking its got to be very basic.
