Advantages: Zoom, macro, focusing, OSD, manual, packed with features, price. Disadvantages: Flash sometimes pop's up when you don't expect
I bought this camera after looking at the options of sub £200 digital cameras. I was surprised not only be low-cost of this piece of kit, but the sheer quality of the product too.
You know the expression "you get what you pay for..." ? With this, you get more than you pay for.
Despite this only be a 6.3 Mega-pixel camera, the x10 zoom (plus x2 digital zoom) is a must have, especially as the resolution of the images is still good enough to print ... ...for most people. It may not have the same weight and resolution as a top-end Nixon, but hey - its a sub £200 camera.
With the option of manual or automatic focusing, plus with both macro and super-macro functions, you really can take wonderful close-up's of your favourite flowers, insects, or anything you want. There are plenty of pre-sets which cover most situations (including parties, and photographing text), and a very nice video capture - the ...

Advantages: Well priced, Good geatures Disadvantages: None
I have had a Fujifilm S3000 digital compact for many years and it is still in good working order but on a recent holiday I noticed its short comings in terms of low light shooting and the lag between pressing the shutter button and the image being taken. So I sought about looking to upgrade, I wanted a Fuji as I like the reliability and interface but didn't want to pay a fortune so eventually I settled on the 5600fd (I had considered the 9600 but ... ...and the 6 Mega Pixels of the 5600 is more than enough.
The 5600fd (face detection) looks like a digital SLR camera but is in fact what is referred to a a bridge camera as it briges the gap between compact cameras and SLRs and as such the camera has many SLR features. As mentioned the camera look like an SLR with its solid feeling black plastic body with inbuilt grip on the right hand side, integrated pop up flash up top along with the main 'mode' ...

...bit where you can see FUJIFILM + the model name printed on it), is a hidden pop-up flash that springs to life when needed.
The lens is like a good old fashioned SLR one, except it isn't interchangeable to different types........ which is a good thing, as I've read that Digital SLR's tend to get a build-up of cr*p inside the part where the lens fits onto the camera, and it eventually needs sending away for servicing. No such problems here.
It's ... ...35mm Film SLR camera, and has little pyramid shaped rubber nobbly bits on it to aid grip. It's generally easier to handle, except perhaps when the supplied hard plastic lens hood is fixed in the stored position (facing back towards you). It also comes with a plastic lens hood too keep the dust off it when not in use, and comes with a loop on it to prevent loosing it when you remove this cover.

Advantages: Easy of use for automatic modes, price, quality of images. Disadvantages: Small grip, awkward battery compartment, lack of RAW format compatability, average manual.
The Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd is an excellent 'bridge' camera for those wishing to move up from the traditional compact type.
Whilst lacking in some of the features you find on the more expensive Digital SLRs, this camera produces excellent quality photographs at A4 print quality, and extremely easily too in automatic mode and when using the excellent face detection mode.

Downsides are the lack of RAW software compatibility - realistically limiting you to JPEG manipulation even with Adobe Photoshop CS2, the small two-finger grip for the right hand, the awkward battery compartment cover which makes loading fiddly and can lead to the batteries popping out at the wrong time, and the manual which ...

Advantages: manual focus ring, large screen on back, good iso range Disadvantages: high iso settings when using auto in low light producing slightly noisy images
by far the best digital camera that i have owned to date. if your looking for something like an SLR camera but at a fraction of the cost then look no further. this camera has it all iso100-3200 full auto mode for beginners and full manual for experts or enthusiasts, it also has semi auto modes for shutter priority, etc on it. the full auto mode is fine for a bright day but i found that it tends to up the iso setting too much with low light so manual ... ...also one of the few compacts that has a manual focus ring instead of the dodgy buttons you get on most compacts, this feature also enlarges the centre section of the shot before you take it si that focus can be optimized, which is made easier by the fact that it has a large screen on the back.

...my Fuji S5500 with the Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd, I was a little taken aback at the controls and the size of the owners manual.
The quality of the photos are totally outstanding and it has 10mb of internal memory, nice touch. but no supplied XD card, I guess a trade off has to be made somewhere.

I received this wonderful camera as a gift for Christmas in 2006. The camera has unleashed a passion within myself for photography - that's how much i like it.

I bought this camera after my boyfriend left my old \'point and click\' camera on an airplane. I had always envisaged that one day I would be able to buy an SLR camera and turn myself into amateur paparazzi. However, even though this is not an SLR camera it comes close!
