...later I upgraded to a Fujifilm E550 which was a great compact camera - it had a good quality 6.3 megapixel sensor and full manual but it wasn't really that user-friendly and used to eat batteries which was annoying when it turned itself off just as you lined up the perfect picture!
So a couple of years on and I once again found myself in a position where I wanted to upgrade - this time I decided on a "proper" camera, one which would take high-quality ... ...semi-manual options for creative purposes, and also a fully automatic mode for ease of use. It should also have a good zoom, macro and look nice too :)
After some googling I decided a DSLR would be perfect, but unfortunately they are about £300 over my budget! This is where the S9600 steps in - it is somewhere in the middle between a compact digital camera and a DSLR.

This is a gorgeous camera. When I worked as a professional photographer, I always used Fuji film for my work. It was always colourful and reliable and so when I decided to get back into photography seriously after a break of almost 20 years, I looked at the specifications and (deciding I didn't at that time want the hassle of different lenses) decided on the Fuji S7000. Six months later and I upgraded to the S9600 as it had a better lens and better ... ...the way you can move the viewing screen. This allows you to get really low or hold the camera above your head (great for concerts) and still see the image you are shooting.
The lens control is great and the Fuji lenses perform quickly and quietly. You have the choice of motorised zoom or manual and there si a comprehensive range of modes available. The viewfinder display seems small as it is a viewer rather than mirror (as in traditional SLR's) ...

The Fujifilm s9600 is a phenomenal camera. I bought it a couple of months ago from Amazon and have not had a single problem (apart from delayed delivery). The item itself is not an SLR, but the quality of pictures it produces is right up there with the semi-pros in my opinion. I am only a photography enthusiast, so like to fiddle with options and manual controls when I can, but often flip it to Auto mode when a quick photo is needed.
The s9600 has ... ...camera - absolutely perfect if you want outstanding picture quality without the expense of additional lenses. When deciding what to buy, I was debating for quite a while whether I should go for the Canon 400D or this. In the end I came down on the Fuji due to its amazing zoom capacity (10.7x optical) and macro all in one. I just couldn't justify the cost of the Canon and all the other equipment I would need to have this range of focus.

I bought this camera for £220 from e-bay and it was definitely worth the money. I have owned a compact digital camera for a long time, but I really missed the flexibility of my old Pentax ME Super SLR. I especially missed the ability to use macro, as with that everything around you can become a subject.
Straight out of the box I could use this camera on point and shoot mode. I have owned Fuji compact cameras before, so this was too my advantage. ... ...when you delve into the manual and the other settings it opens up a whole new world. It has made me open up all my old photography books and start learning about this art again. It offers pretty much all the functions an SLR would without having to lug all those lenses around with you. And at full zoom mode, anything other than really long distance wildlife photography is well within your reach.

OK so the good news is this huge spec, very high quality awesome beastie of a camera is under £200, the bad news is its a little large!!! LOL. I can't see any problems with this camera at all, auto mode takes very good shots, it has all the usual bells and whistles, Burst mode, bracketing, sepia etc etc. All of the usual gubbins you'd expect on a top line semi pro camera. Add into that the magnificent Fujinon lens with manual zoom (which is so very ... ...quick start up times fast focus generally brilliant. I use a card reader to get the photos off the camera. The noise that has been reported certainly doesn't affect my camera, even on the highest ISO settings the noise isn't over what I'd expect. I love this camera, the quality of build and output is spot on. While I am sure that you can get better cameras, with the outlay for the body and lens I reckon you would be looking at over £600 to better ...

If you are looking to buy your first digital camera then you wouldn't go far wrong by buying this model with it's 10.7 x optical zoom you can take what you think looks like a average shot and using idiotproof photo-editing software such as google's free download picasa can crop and zoom to display a masterpiece.
I'm only just getting into photography so I hardly ever switch from the auto setting and my shots still come out picture perfect. Budding ... ...settings you'd expect to find on an digital SLR, having manual adjusting settings and focus column but is a third of the weight of a digital SLR and you don't have to worry about the problem of changing lens. Features include nightvision, sports, macro, video etc and with a 28-300mm lens range there won't be much you can't shoot.
It's durable and reliable for macro/fine detail shots.
With an adjustable lcd scene you'll be able to take shots from ...

After my previous camera was stolen (another Fuji), I decided to 'upgrade'. I looked at a number of simmilar cameras, both by Fuji and by other manufactures. I chose this camera as I had found Fuji's cameras to be of a high quality in the past, and the specs looked good. I was not dissappointed by my choice. The specifications which you get on theis camera are fantastic for the price; and the tilting LCD screen is extremely helpful when taking low ... ...and focus rings make this feel like a very decent camera, which it is as well as making it a lot easier to zoom and to focus manually. I would recomend this camera to anyone who is looking for a digital SLR style camera, who might not be able to afford the real thing but are still looking for a quality product. ...

I bought this camera as my move up from the standard digital compact which most people have now days.
I started taking photography slightly more serious and felt that in order to expand beyond the limits of the \'auto\' mode found on most cameras i needed to find myself something i could alter and manipulate to work the way i wanted.
I searched and played around with a number of cameras, compacts and SLR\'s but i eventually ended up with the s9600. ... ...the quality if superior to anything ive witnessed for that price and the fact is. You get all that SLR quality in this camera for the price of a mere compact.
I would advise this to anyone, whether your a total novice who just wants to snap all day long or the more professional photographer i certainly will hold my word that you will not find anything quite like this camera for the price.

This camera packs a lot of punch for a relatively small outlay. In operation it is very similar to a digital SLR and the lens offers a wide zoom range up to the 35mm equivalent of 300mm. One thing which takes a little getting used to on a camera like this is the fact that the viewfinder is a colour LCD not an optical image through the lens. Once you've mastered how to interpret it though it becomes a very creative tool most enjoyable to use. The ... ...unusual angles - very handy. Pros: 9MP chip, RAW plus MPEG formats, takes CF and SD cards, excellent lens, hot-shoe flash mount for external flash (many don't have this), uses standard AA size batteries. Quieter than SLR.
Cons: slightly disappointing results at high ISO settings - quite a lot of colour noise, viewfinder gives false indication until the shutter is pressed half-way. Lacking in contrast. Does not feature steady-shot or face recognition. ...

i have brought this camera and currently own it. it is a fantastic camera and does everything i expect of a £300 camera. it takes fantastic quality photos, great setting and good features make this one of the best camera's i have seen under £400. this camera has great features such as the rule of third's layout when you are taking a photo, histogram, flash, red-eye reduction, different display modes, 10.7 x optical zoom,2 x digital zoom and a fantasic ... ...as appature priority, shutter speed priority, manual, automatic, night shooting, video and many more. this camera also has an increible amount of manual setting and also has a button for macro photography (close-up). this also has a really cool flip-down screen one of the best camera's i have seen in fairness to fujifilm. ...

The only downside to this camera is how quickly it gets through batteries but always have a spare set and it should be fine. I've had this camera since march and its been fine, i now have and external flash, wide angle adapter and telephoto adapter for it and they work very well with this camera. I would reccomend this camera to anyone that is just starting ...

I purchased this camera as an upgrade from a 3.2 phone camera off a friend for £100. Have found it to be a very good camera, adapting well to different situations. I tend to do a lot of amateur photography of different things (landscapes and situations mostly) and have found it to be an excellent point and shoot camera, in addition to a professional camera.
With the aid of a tripod this can deliver some very clear and crisp images, sometimes without ... ...quality, though the low shutter speeds deliver excellent quality at night. The various modes on the dial all offer great adapation to various situations, and the video quality (top output at 640x480) is excellent for a SLR of this type. It is however quite demanding on battery power, though the usage of rechargeable batteries can easily overcome this.

My close friend bought this camera for christmas , since there it has undergone a fair amount of bumps and scratches and is still in good shape . after once dropping it down the stairs it is still as good as knew ! the camera is a very good looking camera and i'm not ashamd to be seen with it on the street ! Over all i think the picture quality on this camera is extremely good and i would definately reccomend it to anyone interested in photography ...
