Advantages Advantages multi-thread, CPU speed, longevity

Disadvantages Disadvantages ATI video card, heat, noise, Windows license

Bought in 2004, this laptop has always been running under Linux (various distributions). Some major problems : very hot (due to 2.6GHz CPU), may crash sometimes in summer. When computer is hot, network cable connexion stops working. No hardware acceleration after 4 years ! This is due to ATI (now AMD) lack of stable driver release over the past years. Unstable wifi support (BCM card) through ndiswrapper of bcm43xx modules. Batteries are not working anymore (5 min at most). Suspending to disk has never worked (from 2004-2006). Too noisy. Problems to get Windows license reimbursed (lack of ... more

After spending 2000 euro's on an amilo d1840, they supplied me with a notebook which was configured with a default failure namely, the ATI 9600 in combination with there motherboard had a conflict with the s-video output, which resulted in b/w output. (they knew that!) So that motherboard had to be replaced immediatley. including the ATI. When i recieved the revised laptop ( after 6 weeks!), the outerside was damaged, my HD drive wasn't functioning in smart modus anymore. So I had to resend it! another 2 weeks! Start up on battery power was impossible, due to the battery capacity in ... more

I have just had mine for over three years and have had nothing but trouble. Thankfully I took out a three year extended warranty, it was well worth it. I have had it in for repairs three times (without it for at least 2 weeks each time) Had two new motherboards, memory, modem card and all the connectors changed at one time or another. The lid of the case also split which they changed the last time in just before the three years ran out. They then also replaced the CPU heatsink and shielding and at the moment it is the ... more

Bought one of these in 2004, has been generally ok, but recently the overheating and poor battery life has severly tested my patience. DVD writer is very fussy about the brand of DVD used. Now it overheats very easily, waiting for support from Fujitsu, but not hopeful as it so old. Battery pack is too heavy as is the laptop for travelling or long term use on the lap. Spec looked good but have become very disappointed with quality of parts. Recent upgrade to 1gb RAM has helped but overheating is major problem. Currently looking for a good reason to keep ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Overheating. Poor battery life

I bought one of these in 2004 for my daughter to take to college. As others have written it ran very hot for her, with frequent crashes. The overheating probably accelerated the hard disk failure (1 year and one week). However, while replacing the disk, I gave the computer a good clean. The air vent grilles (and there are a few) were coated with fluff, like a blanket. Not easy to see, but easy enough to clean, carefully. I am now using the computer for office work, including lightweight CAD, and it's pretty good. I'm looking at upgrading the RAM, and it needs a new battery. I clean it about ... more

i think the laptop is really good if you just get a cooler under it. well the only problem is when you don`t have a cooler under it. yes, it crashes very lightly if you dont have the cooler but what if you should get one? theyre not very expencive and stops your computer crushing all the time. or get a monitor to the computer. very easy when you put your computer upside down. so in my eyes its a very good computer. like a uncut diamond... or something like that.

Advantages Advantages A cheap and powerful laptop

Disadvantages Disadvantages Gets Hot very quickly causing frequent crashes

I've owned this laptop for a year and a half now and its been pretty good for me, Its very powerful although could do with more ram than the 512mb standard installed. The only issue for me is that this particular model heats up very quickly, I find it almost impossible to use it in the summer months as it is too hot and just crashes under pressure, I tend to use a loptop cooler and a normal house fan while using it just to stop it from crashing and this seems to work quite well although I shouldnt have to do this. Apart from these issues I think this is a decent laptop for the price I paid for ... more

    Advantages Advantages price

Disadvantages Disadvantages doesn't work at all

I bought this laptop as a home machine and upgraded the memory for games use. The laptop has progressively got worse, although it didn't start that great. Depsite a few professionals trying to fix the problems, the laptop crashes within 10 minutes of every use and is therefore unusable. I have followed many other similar cases on the web, and in each case a few hundred pounds has been spent with no resolution to the problems. The overheating in very short time does seem to be the most common issue. Also makes it impossible to use on the lap. What is the point of buying a machine that doesn't ... more
