For my 18th Birthday, I was fortunate enough to receive these as a present from my grandparents. Reason for Purchase ~ ‘As Straight As A Die’ I do not need straighteners but both my daughters do! I purchased this one as a gift for my youngest daughter, (one of many through the years I might add!) as she, like her sister has very thick hair that becomes frizzy with the slightest encouragement from the weather. Neither daughter lives at home now but both visit me often for hair therapy! I am no qualified hairdresser, and they’d certainly never let me perform a ‘bad hair day’ special on them! So far I have had 2 pairs of ghd straightners my first I received for my 16th birthday of my partner and they were the hot pink limited addition ones. After 6 long years of daily use they were put into retirement after I dropped them of my fireplace and after the beatings they had taken by my clumsy hands over the years the plates snapped in two. PACKAGING AND DESIGN When I got my most recent set of ghd's, I went to Peter Mark's hair salon a couple of weeks before last Christmas to get them. I was so happy at the thought of getting a new pair because my last ones had broken and I had to make do with imposter straighteners for a long time. I call them imposter's because they didn't work even nearly as good and I missed my ghd's. I've got very thick hair that curls and frizzes if it's not brushed thoroughly and properly straightened. I love my thick hair and get a lot of compliments on it, but it does take some taming! Up until I was in my late teens, I managed with a cheap pair of straighteners that my dad had got me one Christmas from a more than likely cheapo knock-off warehourse. Appearance These GHD's have a simple design because after all they have no need to have be complicated and have fancy settings. They're very typical of how every pair of hair straighteners look you have your hot plates in this case gold ceramic at the end of the item these usually take up half of the space, the other half is for your hands so you can hold it and close it without burning yourself. There is only one button and that is the on off button located on the inside of the stylers before the plates, you flick it up to turn on and back down again to turn off. I have been using hair straighteners four around 8 years now to help straighten or curl my naturally wavy hair. My first set were a really chunky Remington pair that had interchangeable plates so that you could alternate between straightening and crimping your hair, they did the job but it took a while and the effect never lasted any longer than a couple of hours.
