    Disadvantages Disadvantages Cleaning coffee grind.

Gaggia ********* Achille Gaggia produced the first modern steam-less coffee machine on 5 September 1938, and are now probably the most renowned brand in the world. PRICE ******** So why pay £250 for a Gaggia Classic espresso machine. If your a coffee lover and you have been to Starbucks, Caffe Nero or one of those other trendy coffee bars, when you open the door and you get that whiff of the fresh ground coffee being served to people lounging on sofas reading the free papers or chatting about life in general you will know why. The coffee machines that are in these shops cost thousands of ... more

Advantages Advantages Solid, Reliable, Stonking Coffee

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pricey, my big mug wont fit it!

I am a coffee freak. I have no shame in admitting it. I have had 3 previous coffee machines to this, and this one has topped them all. I bought this machine a year ago now, during the sale of (cough) a major retailer (cough). With my staff discount, I purchased it for the princely sum of £181, when the RRP was closer to £300. First Impressions When you look at this thing in the store, the first thing that strikes you is man. It’s big. Its also solid metal and very, very heavy. It certainly looks every penny of its asking price. After hauling the surprisingly small box back home and unpacking ... more

Advantages Advantages Looks good and makes superb coffee.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Frustrating to use and occasionally verging on the dangerous.

I'm a difficult person to buy presents for, so when I mentioned to my husband last summer that I liked the idea of an espresso machine it was inevitable that one would appear on my birthday. He went for what seemed to him to be the best of the domestic machines - the Gaggia Classic - as it's a well-built basic machine with none of the frills which rarely get used and have the potential to cause problems. It will also make a cappuccino, but not a filter coffee. The Classic is also one of the most powerful domestic machines - water is forced through the ground coffee with 17.5 bar of pressure ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick, simple, sturdy, stylish

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can lose important 'bits' if not careful

So - I lost the whoosit for steaming the milk properly and now I only use the coffee making part, heating the milk up in the microwave. But, in the Gaggia's defence, I have had it for a long, long, time (5 years plus), moved house with it as well, hence the loss of the whoosit, and I still couldn\'t get through the day without the wonderful coffee it makes for me every morning. I could also replace the whoosit direct from Gaggia's site, but I have pathetically not bothered. Despite this, I still use the machine daily. It needs a good descale every now and then - I just use the same stuff you ... more

I love coffee. I really do. It is the best legal stimulant, and it tastes so bluming good. Is there anything better than waking up and having a cuppa to wake you up? I never used to like coffee, but since I started working in Whittard I have become an addict and now tea makes me feel a bit sick. What beats a coffee? < Intro > So why would you want to buy one of these machines? It is very simple actually. They give a bloody excellent cup/shot of espresso and they wake you up, they also taste great and cure a hangover like nothing else. If you have ever drunk or made a cappuccino or espresso ... more

4 Stars Quick review of Gaggia Classic Coffee /GC 120 by mjmrjp1 01/05/2007
A strong machine with a heavy filter that will not break too easily, it takes just a couple of minutes to warm up and has high pressure to make lots of froth for cappuchinos. Idal for everyday use for an independant who can't be enticed to pay Starucks prices

Advantages Advantages Looks great, heavy duty, relatively easy to use, authentic Italian, Good customer service

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be messy

I have had 4 different espresso machines, this is the latest and greatest, it is one of my favourite possessions and I think it is absolutely superb. The machine has a classic/traditional look which I love. The Gaggia logo badge finishes the machines look well. I have the polished chrome plated version of this machine. It has big solid illuminated switches which are clearly laid out on the front of the machine. In using this machine I notice the high quality of the components and the machine overall. The chrome plated solid brass filter holder has a reassuringly heavy feel to it. Being solid ... more

Advantages Advantages Beautiful looks, robust, simple to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Are these machines really worth the money?

Before I continue with this review, let me put it into context. I like coffee and drink quite a lot of the instant variety. I haven't owned a coffee maker like the Gaggia before, but was given one as a wedding present last year. We absolutely love it and it looks fantastic on our kitchen bench, but my comments on the usefulness of this item are based on the fact that we're novices to the home-espresso game. If you already own a machine like this and are looking for a new one, want a highly technical review or worship caffeine as a demi-god, then you'd probably be better off reading someone ... more

    User recommends the product

    Advantages Advantages Pure perfection

Disadvantages Disadvantages A lot of work for a small cup of coffee....

Ive had my Gaggia for a good while now...when I first got it it was in constant use...these days it usually doesnt get used much during the week...reason being that there is a lot to clean up after and not much time to do it....easier to make a cup of instant....thought of course its not any where near the same...just a matter of lifestyle...But at the weekends it comes into its own...and is in constant use... Once you get over the initial 'how to' it comes as second nature, like anything else new...when you start to use them they seem pretty daunting to say the least...but once youve mastered ... more

5 Stars Quick review of Gaggia Classic by bgtune 08/03/2008
Brilliant espresso maker Use to have a Gaggia Cubika but this new one is so much better. Has a good heavy well built feel to it . Bought it from the house of Fraser £199 with a set of cups.1/3/08 Had to run a couple of litres of water through first to clean out the system. Also found out where the flat plastic went (under drip tray) which is easy to remove without taking the stainless steel pipe off. Filling with water is a piece of cake compared to the Cubika.I use Mineral water as a preference. The steam nozzle froths ... more
