THIS IS THE VOICE OF THE MINSTER'ELS' !

Advantages: Great quantity.
Disadvantages: nasty, splintering, sugary; shell.

Chocolate was reputedly introduced into Spain in 1502; the Spaniards had learnt of chocolate from the Aztecs (during their colonisation/ genocide of South America) … A Spanish explorer ‘Hernan Cortes’ had tasted chocolate prepared by the Aztecs and had learnt how to change the bitter bean into a superb drink. The origin and preparation method was kept their secret for 100 years. Chocolate gradually infiltrated other countries, starting with France ...
...‘barbarous product and noxious drug’) and preceded to spread slowly throughout the world, the last place to jump on the bandwagon was (perhaps surprisingly) Switzerland in mid 1800’s. Chocolate was only available as cocoa or as a liquid until 1879; when Robert Lindt caused a chocolate revolution by turning the primitive cocoa mass into a chocolate bar. Needing a chocolate fix, I walked (burning off the impending calories contained within my intended ...

Melts in your mouth - Not in your hands!!

Advantages: Made with Galaxy chocolate!!
Disadvantages: No calorie content

I am a chocoholic. I am a chocoholic. OK I have now admitted my addiction!! When it comes to chocolate there are really only two contenders in my opinion. It’s either Galaxy or Dairy Milk. Now ask me which one I prefer and I will be here for at least a fortnight deciding!! I like them both equally and whichever one I choose to eat really depends on my mood!! At this moment in time Galaxy is in poll position! Galaxy chocolate has a completely different ...
...is a much more creamier and smoother tasting chocolate that just simply melts in your mouth. When I decide to have a sweet treat instead of buying a bar of plain Galaxy chocolate I often buy myself a bag of Minstrels! ***What are Minstrels? Well for those not in the know these are based on the same idea as Smarties only bigger! Not heard of Smarties?? Well these are little round discs of galaxy chocolate coated in a crispy brown shell and are called ...

Such Handy Chocolate Treats!

Advantages: Reasonably priced, delicious, don't melt like chocolate bars!
Disadvantages: Too moreish to last long if you lack will power!

...Revels, M&Ms, Planets (the usual Mars suspects) and a blast from my past I had not tried for a while, Galaxy Minstrels. I sheepishly ferried one pack of Maltesers and one of Minstrels to the till, paid my £3 and tripped quickly home eager to taste my spoils! Most people will be familiar with Galaxy which has long been a favourite chocolate choice. It is the brand name used in the UK for what is better known in the USA as Dove, a chocolate concocted ...
...USA. They were acquired by Mars in 1986. Of course I gave little thought to the history of the brand as I unpacked my indulgences. I offered to share with my daughter but, thank heavens she declined; she has so much more will power than her mother! I quickly studied the bag and noticed the Minstrels at 225g were weightier than the Maltesers (175g) and ripped the top off the bag with alacrity to reveal the tempting contents, dozens of shiny disc shaped ...

Grown up sweets

Advantages: Good value if one offer, lovely creamy, smooth chocolate.
Disadvantages: Sickly if too many are consumed at one go.

...along with similar offerings from Mars such as Malteesers and Revels are on a special offer. It is one of those buy one get one free, or two for three deals. It all depends where you shop. The bags in question are a decent 225g size which is ideal for sharing or maybe not. Each bag has a 2 free cinema ticket offer on it and this has had a fair bit of advertising recently, so I would think that most readers have seen this. It does involve saving a ...
...that I just cannot wait to open the bag and before I know it this top is in the bin. Oh well I will just have to settle for the Minstrels. Minstrels are one of those sweets that 'Melt in your mouth and not in your hand'. The crispy shell helps prevent the eating experience of Minstrels becoming a messy and sticky palaver. I guess if you held them long enough in your hand however that they would melt but come on, they just beg to be eaten, don't ...

Not black and white - just brown

Advantages: Taste great, not expensive
Disadvantages: Calories!

Now I am usually a Cadburys Dairy Milk girl but just occasionally I do enjoy a bit of Galaxy, usually when hubby has some and I pinch a bit! Well, you have to don't you? LOL! For me the best way to enjoy Galaxy is in the form of Minstrels. What to look for Galaxy Minstrels usually come in bags - there are small bags available but we usually buy the 225g bags as my husband does like his chocolate! As I say, even though I am a diabetic I can pinch ...
...of brown with the words Galaxy Minstrels across the front and a picture of some of the sweets to show what to expect inside the bag. The usual list of contents and nutritional information is shown on the back of the bag. Instead of having to try and rip a corner off the bag and risk the sweets flying everywhere there is ...

Minstrels - Mine, All Mine!

Advantages: Delicious chocolate treats
Disadvantages: There are only 16 per bag!

...likes of Bounty, Malteasers,Snickers and Mars Bars. In recent years, Minstrels have undergone a bit of a revamp. Not only did the packaging change, but I am sure that the taste of them altered slighty also. Galaxy also underwent a revamp around the same time, and I am sure that Galaxy's flavour altered slightly also. It would make sense that Minstrels' flavour would also change, as Minstrels have Galaxy chocolate in them. I may be imaging that slight ...
...difference in taste. The most common packet of Minstrels is the 42g packs. Each packet contains close to 16 Minstrels (I have actually found one less, or one extra in various cases). They can be found in Newsagents and local supermarkets for about 35 pence to the price of 45 pence. 10 pence difference - so look out for those deal prices! Also in existance are larger packets of Minstrels which weigh in at about 250g. These cost about £1.35 in my ...

Crispy shelled delight!

Advantages: Don't melt in hot weather
Disadvantages: Tempted to eat too many at once

Well, I'm off to see Indiana Jones for free at Cineworld - all due to Galaxy Minstrels. But, more about that later. I find Minstrels the perfect chocolate treat when the weather gets warmer due to the dark brown crispy shell enclosing the delicious creamy chocolate within. As an experiment I've been holding one for a couple of minutes and there 's still no tell tale sign of melted chocolate on my hand. Packaging - Easy to open rich dark chocolate ...
...always easy to tear, but this one is. The familiar Galaxy logo is at the top, but not as big as the word Minstrels. The bag has a picture of the disc shaped treats that are within, with one bitten in half. The size in the picture is their actual size! The bag has an adhesive tag attached in order to seal it if you don't want to eat the contents in one go - little chance of that being used more than once then! About three minutes and the shell is ...

Surrender To Smooth And Creamy Galaxy Minstrels!

Advantages: Very Tasty
Disadvantages: Can be a little sickly if you eat too many

...the wonders of Bounty Bar, Mars Bars and most of the other Chocolate bars that you could care to think of. The Packaging I am guessing that the packaging must have changed a little in the last few years since the bag in front of me is nothing like the picture that accompanies this review. The bag in front of me is quite large and contains 225g of the gorgeous sweeties. The bag is a deep, rich brown colour with the words "Minstrels" emblazoned across ...
...up the bottom third of the packaging, is a picture of the sweets that you can expect to find inside. Across the top of the bag there is a row of white dots to tear along as this bag is described as "New, easy to open and re-closable." Unfortunately I didn't realise this until I had snipped the packet open with a pair of scissors so I'm afraid I'll just have to eat them all at once whilst they are still fresh. The reverse of the packet contains the ...

The way choclate drops should always be

Advantages: Just simply yummy
Disadvantages: calories, but what the heck

The small round shiny beads tempted me to their secret hideaway, in a small but seductively illustrated plastic package. they beckoned me to delve inside their dwelling , who was I to decline such an offer. The entrance was sealed in a ragged manner but did not prove too much of a problem, I grabbed both sides of it delicately and pulled ever so slightly on the shiny surface. Slowly it prised open to reveal a multitude of small perfectly shaped rounds ...
...their call was one of glee not of torment. I placed my thumb and forefinger into the shiny den and persuaded one of the glistening beads to partake of my joy. it was but an inch in diameter and slightly domed. It was it's shininess that had first appealed to me but now the smell was intoxicating, a strong waft of galaxy cocoa drifted sensuously into my nasal passage, it had been a while since my senses had been so stimulated. I was reluctant to ...

Keep your Hands off!!

Advantages: Crunchy, very tasty
Disadvantages: High levels of fat and carbohydates

...guys who make Maltesers and Mars bars. They come in different sized packets and range in weight from 42g packets right through to 225g packets. So what are Galaxy Minstrels? Well as the name suggests, Galaxy chocolate is the main ingredient used in making them, so they have got to be quite luxurious. They remind me of a posher version of Smarties, aimed mainly at adults, because, like Smarties, they are round and disc-shaped shells filled with milk ...
...in size. They are slightly larger than traditional Smarties (around 2cm in diameter) and are all one colour – chocolate brown – not lots of different colours. Packets look very appealing indeed, with chocolatey brown swirls and shades of gold and cream used to attract your attention. The Galaxy logo appears in the top left-hand corner and the name 'Minstrels' appears just underneath in bold lettering. Some individual Minstrels are also pictured, ...

The grown up smarties!!

Advantages: They are more sophisticated than Smarties
Disadvantages: I always want more!!

Galaxy Minstrels have been around for quite some time. I can remember waiting eagerly for my brother to come home of a Friday night with a bulging bag of chocolate. He had a particular favourite and that was minstrels. I would watch as his hand went from bag to mouth, from bag to mouth just hoping that he would send a few my way. (In case you are wondering he is a lot older than me and I would've only been about 7 years old to his 'grown up' 18 years. ...
...but I would always wish that I was old enough to go out and buy my own minstrels. Well the time came and went when I was old enough to buy my own sweets and yes minstrels were always on the list along with smarties!! But thats another review. Do I indulge often? Minstrels for me, are very much a treat as I get migraine if I eat chocolate. So when I 'have' to in the name of research then I will grin and bare the headache that will follow!! Taste ...

LIKE SMARTIES, BUT NICER!

Advantages: Silky smooth chocolate
Disadvantages: fattening

I found a big packet of Minstrels in my cupboard the other day so I thought I should write a review on them, I think that my husband must have bought them and forgotten about them - he has not yet mentioned that they are no longer there anyway! So these are my thoughts on Galaxy Minstrels. THE PACKAGING Minstrels come in small packets of about 50g and larger packets of about 180g. The packaging is the normal Galaxy style, dark brown background ...
...swirling chocolate effect. It has Minstrels written across the front in big white letters with Galaxy written in much smaller gold letters above it. THE LOOK, TASTE AND SMELL Minstrels are dark brown in colour and are round, they measure about 2cm in diameter, they almost look like huge smarties. They have a smooth shiny outer shell, which is hard and crispy in texture, below the thin shell is thick, silky smooth Galaxy milk chocolate, which is ...

But I'm not into cannibalism!

Advantages: Crunchable and suckable ;-)
Disadvantages: Not the cheapest!

Ah, of course, I'm writing a review about eating the delectable Galaxy chocolate Minstrels, not the human kind who wander the streets of Cambridge playing the same song badly day after day - you would have thought that lack of offer of a recording contract would tell them to give up! Sorry, back to the review, of which this is my first food one so please be gentle with me. So, importantly you can buy 2 different size bags that I've seen, a 42g bag ...
...(Sainbury's prices). It is the latter product that I will be reviewing here. ================ The wrapper. ================ The bag is a glossy brown colour with Minstrels pictured near the bottom and waves of Galaxy chocolate swirled around the rest of the packet inviting you to pick up a pack. There is even a rendering of one split open so you can get a glimpse of what awaits you within the shell. "Galaxy Minstrels" is emblazoned on the front, ...

...on a range of Masterfoods/ Mars products. Somehow a bag of yummy Minstrels found its way into my basket. Minstrels were incorporated into the Galaxy brand in 1987 and this relaunch was also responsible for the slogan “why have cotton when you can have silk?”. Masterfoods markets all Galaxy products as indulgent and luxurious and they seem to aim them largely at women. Minstrels can be bought in a variety of packets. You can buy the standard size ...
...Supermarkets sell multi-packs of four of these standard bags for about £1.10 to £1.20. You can also get large 225gram bags and cup shaped containers of about 300grams (perfect for the cinema). I went for the standard size bag as that was what the deal was for. The Minstrels come in a sturdy plastic bag that is a deep chocolate brown colour. The word “Minstrels” is written in the centre but it by no means dominates the design. A little above and ...

UMMMMMMM Minstrels................

Advantages: dont melt in the hand, taste great
Disadvantages: nothing

Galaxy Minstrels… The chocolate monster strikes again and with one quick stop-off at the shop my problem is sorted. What treat grabs my attention this evening you may ask...well this time it is Galaxy Minstrels. I have had these many times before and I can honestly say they are one of my favourite treats to buy, especially at the cinema. Galaxy is a true master among the chocolate companies and with these Minstrels you can see why. Minstrels are ...
...crispy outer shell of sugar coating. Dark brown in colour and about the size of a rounded 50 pence piece, they sit perfectly in the mouth. My preferred way to eat these Minstrels is by sucking them which makes the flavour last longer with each one. The crispy outside shell tasks a while to be sucked away and will crack up upon the tongue. Because of the warmth of my mouth the chocolate inside the shell has melted down and as soon as the shell is ...
