A great place to work(?), rest and play

Advantages: A great activity place for babies
Disadvantages: They will eventually escape

...can be ordered direct from Galt at www.galt.co.uk or can be purchased from most baby product selling stores (if not you will be able to find a similar product). More expensive versions of this also have flexible arches over the top of the nest, in a similar manner to some playmats, with more toys to play with dangling form them, for this you can be expected to shell out around £40. If you are looking to get one cheap, at the time of writing this ...
...maximum price of £12.50, I would just make sure you wash the cover well first. Or possibly you might be able to pick one up even cheaper at a car boot sale like my parents did! Overall, I would highly recommend this, almost to the point of saying no baby should be without one! ...

Googly horses and squeaky ducks

Advantages: Interesting textures/graphics that appeal to babies/ baby can sit propped up.
Disadvantages: Limiting concept/not portable/quite large.

...ciao, and found that the galt playnest popped up at number three. Not mindbending loud yell-emitting surprise, but more of a slight squeak on the surprise richter scale. Reason? Well, I wouldn't personally call this item a great toy. A good toy? Yes. A sometimes quite useful toy? Yes. But a truly great toy? Nope. It's got quite a few drawbacks, and some of the plus points about it can easily be found in other combinations of other, often cheaper, ...
...old, and promptly punctured. But Galt are pretty good, and my playnest has so far withstood toddler interest, and is still going for baby number two to lurk in. Playnest comes with a little blurb/booklet which explains how the colours stimulate your baby, and tells you that it can be used from newborn (with the ring partially deflated) through the first years (with ring fully inflated as soon as child can sit up) untill about three, when, according ...

Playnest and Gym exercise for body and mind

Advantages: Enhances playtime and encourages child development
Disadvantages: Storage

~@~ GALT PLAYNEST AND GYM ~@~ “A soft supporting multi-sensory environment for baby, Playnest features a fun farm scene with the Gym as the sky above.” This is the introduction as written on the instructions. The Playnest and Gym is for babies from birth to about 8 months, then the playnest alone can be used for older children as they wish. Basically the ‘Playnest’ is an inflatable ring which sits inside a canvas, durable ...
...‘Gym’ is a set of 8 plastic poles and connectors which fit together, making 4 longer poles that meet at the top and is then again placed in a canvas covering and fitted via loops to the outside of the playnest. This gives a framework to hang the toys from using the numerous interlocking rings supplied. The following toys come with the playnest:  Crinkle Butterfly – Made up of bold colours incorporating stripes and concentric ...

Ring, Ring, Why Dont You Give Me A Toy

Advantages: Portable, washable, interesting, safe.
Disadvantages: Expensive, hard to assemble, few months of use

...won’t have heard of a Galt baby nest unless you’ve got a baby in the family. I must admit it wasn’t high on my list of shopping priorities before I had my daughter but I now consider it to be one of my top three ‘must-haves’. The Galt baby nest comes in two types. You can buy the nest just on its own which costs about £25 or with a play gym over the top for £40. I have seen them sold in Tesco, Argos and Blooming Marvellous (catalogue for Mothers ...
...available to buy separately. Galt advertise that the baby nest is suitable from birth but I would actually dispute this because when my daughter was very small she found it hard to sit in because it doesn’t provide very good support for the back even when slightly deflated. She used to try and fall asleep in it and then become upset because she was so uncomfortable, she was really better off in a bouncy chair for the first few months. If you can ...

Nesting Instinct

Advantages: A bright, colourful, toy that keeps your baby safe and entertained
Disadvantages: A bit bulky to store away at the end of the day

...baby was recently bought the Galt Playnest, and I am so impressed with it that I wanted to write and share it with other Ciao members! The Playnest is an inflatable ring, measuring 39” (100 cm), with a brightly coloured and textured cover. The cover has a quilted centre for extra padding and is fully machine washable. The object of the Playnest is to provide a self contained resting and play area for babies and toddlers (the packaging says 0m+, ...

helping baby to learn to sit

Advantages: good for helping baby learn to sit up
Disadvantages: not so good for newborns

I first came across this product when Charlotte was learning to sit up on her own. Mooching round Mothercare one day I saw this and thought it would be ideal to sit Charlotte in so she could play. Also it would stop my cushions getting soggy, puked on etc etc. Basically it is a ring which baby sits in, or rolls about in without coming to harm. It measures 85cm in diameter (33" in old money), and is an inflatable plastic ring which fits inside a material ...
...cover - you'll save yourself a lot of time!!) The material is all different colours and textures and is based upon a farmyard theme. There is a crinkly barn door and a stratchy scarecrow's tie, a fluffy sheep and a squeaky ducks beak, for further investigation. The cover is very durable and washes up lovely on a 40 degree wash. They say this ring is suitable from birth but Ciaran looked very uncomfortable in it as the sides of the ring are quite ...

Eyes dont always have 2 B in the back of your head

Advantages: Great value if only you now the amount of use you would get out of it.
Disadvantages: Bit bulky and takes time to blow it up

When my daughter was born she was 9lbs 1 1/2 ozs and yes people told me that it was my fault for marrying a 6' 2" rugby player, but hey I could take it. Hana was very strong from a very early stage and I knew from reading my own baby books that mum had kept that I was walking up stairs at the age of 9 months etc. When Hana was 6 months old she weighed a ton and had started to show interest in sitting up without much support and then she would tople ...
...bigger clothes for her I found the Nest in Mothercare. It was priced at £24.99 and I though it would help me and Hana as she could do what she wanted to in this nest. There were squeaky, shiny, rattly, bobbly things on the side of this nest and they kept her amused for a good while. However, I did find that the length of time that she fitted in the nest was quite short as by the age of 7 months she could crawl out of it and it had become quite dangerous ...

Round, round, baby, round, round

Advantages: I know my daughter is safe in it
Disadvantages: Big and bulky

...daughters, I first saw the Galt Baby Nest at my mother and baby group when i had my first daughter. Back then I though it was a good idea. So when I has my next daughter 6 months ago, I decided I would buy one. I'd seen them for sale in Tesco, Argos and on the internet, so decided i'd go to town and pick one up from Argos. I didn't know which nest to get first of all, as there was also a Galt Playnest with a play gym over it, but as I already had ...
...So what is the Galt Baby Nest, I hear you ask. Well it's described as a soft, multi-sensory environment for baby. To you and me it is a large rubber ring with a brightly coloured material cover for it, which the baby sits in the centre of. It's in fun farm scene, with different textures and sounds for baby to explore. For example the ducks nose squeeks, the scarecrow has a scarf that crunches and the sheep has a softer material for his body, creating ...

Babies love it

Advantages: So many bright colours and textures
Disadvantages: Too big to be portable

...I used the Galt baby nest once Laura was a month old, as it didn't support her very well before that although I did try as it can be used from birth. I think it really depends on how big your child is at birth. You don't inflate it too much to start with; as that is softer and more comfortable for baby but as they grow you can inflate it to solid. The cover does get a bit grubby with use but that is no problem as the cover is machine washable at ...
...after washing. The instruction leaflet was very easy to read and the diagrams for setting up were easy to follow. They suggest that children go through three phases while using the nest and gym. Phase one- Birth to tree months - seeing, holding, mouthing and inspecting Phase two- Four to eight months - hitting, shaking, examining and combined activities Phase three- Eight months onwards - dropping, throwing, searching, social play, language and ...

Great for your wobbly babies

Advantages: Great for teaching babies to sit up, easy to keep clean
Disadvantages: Gym isn't the best, relatively expensive

...had been told that the Galt Babynest is the best product for babies who are just learning to sit up, and we decided to buy the version that also comes with an integral baby gym. The babynest itself is a brightly coloured cloth cover surrounding an inflatable inner tube. You can use it for a tiny baby to lie on, with just a little inflation, or you can blow it up more completely to provide a circular surround for your baby to play in. The sides of ...

Help your child sit up before his friends!

Advantages: Helped our Son to sit up far earlier than his pals without one.
Disadvantages: Colour fades after too many washes.

We were given the Galt baby nest by our sons Grandparents as a birth present. We weren't too sure about it at first as it seemed rather large and pretty pointless to two first time parents! We found it a little tricky to blow up and not having a electric pump - which seems to be a necessity if you have kids these days! - meant that we had to blow it up using a foot pump which took quite a while to do. There is a little trick which one of the mums ...
...it halfway before inserting it into the outer cover, that way it has some defined shape so it can be squashed into the cover easily, but not too much air so that it doesn't squeeze through the tiny gap were the zip is!!! Once we started to use the Baby Nest, we were really pleased with it, as it was a soft and comfortable and most importantly SAFE place for our baby to sit - he liked to look around and see what was going on constantly and couldn't ...

Disadvantages: It didn't seem to be too beginning freindly (see the inflation point)

...department store and saw the Galt Nest. It seemed ideal and it turned out that it almost was.... It's very hard to blow up...My partner was at it for nearly an hour and he thought the sides were stuck together, but eventually it inflated no problem (although he said it will never be deflated!) but the overhead Gym proved to be a bit strange...The poles didn't bend properly so they kept popping out of the little cross at the top and knocked the gym ...

Actually playing with it though was something he didn't seem to do much.. It's still inflated for the next one (due in around the next ...
