...change though.
In March, Nintendo in their ultimate wisdom, launched the Gameboy Advance Special Project (SP). With their existing Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance products, Nintendo had achieved market domination in the field of handheld gaming, but as with any successful company, they needed to find a way of enlarging the potential market. With the SP, I believe they will succeed.
Obviously, there are those out there who simply must have the ... ...– a deliberate ploy by Nintendo to extend the usage of these ‘toys’ into the 20 and 30 something age groups (Being part of the latter group, I can testify to their success). If you opt for the black or silver colour, this could easily be mistaken for an electronic organiser when folded. Personally, I opted for the very striking Blue metallic finish.
Portability
Although portability is the main attraction, the previous gameboy advance was not ‘conveniently ...

In 1998 Nintendo decided to spruce up the Gameboy's image and to this end they not only shrunk it in size to 75mm x 27mm x 133mm, and a much lighter 138g, but they added an impressive upto 56 simultaneous on-screen colours. ***********************************
There is a huge library of games available, consisting of hundreds if not thousands of titles. As you can play games originally released for the gameboy and gameboy colour, you can even play the original Tetris. A word of warning though, gameboy/colour games will stick out of the slot somewhat and make the overall look ...

...design, which is obviously what Nintendo had in mind to appeal to the more mature person as well as the younger kids who want to play the games. It has a nice finish of either platinum (silver), black or blue and it will seem most people will opt for the ever sexy silver, which is what I plumped for, but seeing the other colours up close too all of them retain a stylish look about them. Nintendo have had a reason to shy away from including a light on a portable system because they can eat batteries but technology has come along. The built in battery can now last about 10 hours playtime with the light on and 18 hours with no light. Incidentally a new rechargeable battery has been released in Japan boasting a 16-hour playing time with the light on. Ten hours is still a very good time to play on but it can ...

Nintendo say that the GBA is compatible with 'almost all' older games. Advance games cartridges are the same width and thickness as the old kind but half the length, about 6 by 3 centimetres, so if you put an old Game Pak in the front-loading slot of the SP it protrudes cheekily for an inch or so. The console itself is tiny! This is mostly down to the very satisfying flip screen. It passed the tight jeans test and slipped into my back pocket. Also the backlit screen is very crisp and large enough not to ruin the games or make you strain your eyes.
The SP can only handle 16 bit games (this means no flash 3D titles with pumping soundtracks), but this is by no means a bad thing. ...

I bought this as an impulse buy. My unplayed yet working perfecty regular Gameboy Advance had lost its appeal. I sat down and wondered why.
