I visited Garbos in Albert Road (opposite the Goose at the V&A pub) for the first time a few weeks ago. I had tried out a few of the other 'big salons' in Portsmouth, but after a recommendation from a friend and after seeing her hair (which looked lovely) I thought I'd give garbos a go! The first thing you have to know about Garbo is that their prices are incredibly and ridiculously high for the quality of service provided. Really you'd be better off getting your hair cut in a small salon with someone who has good manners, who cares for customers, and who puts reasonable prices. Surely you have heard of modeling for trainees in hair salons, and it is for free, but BEWARE in Garbo they will charge you the price of a haircut!! There ... Read review

Disadvantages: just leave 5 mins earlier if driving just to ensure you find a parking space :)

I have visited two of the garbos salons in Portsmouth - The Lab and the salon in albert road and both times been really impressed! I firstly went to 'The Lab' and Hayley looked after me. I came in on recommendation and as I work just over the road, and wanted to have my hair blow-dryed and styled as I was going out that night. My hair was blow-dryed beautifully and even just after a blow dry the condition looked amazing plus it stayed in all night. ... Read review

Yes, Garbo's Portsmouth (North End) is on the pricey side but I have never had bad service there EVER. I have been a Garbo's customer for several years now. I could go elsewhere & get a cheaper haircut but as someone who has had many bad haircuts over the years at other salons, I know I can trust my hairdresser there to give a great cut & offer advice when required. The reception staff are nice & polite, as are the staff who wash my hair. I never feel pressured into leaving a tip, which as a new mum has become financially harder to do.
