Garlic for Medicinal Use

AdvantagesEasy to use, natural, tastes good.

DisadvantagesUnknown whether it works for some things mentioned.

"Yesterday I wrote about Garlic the plant – how it can be used in cooking, how to grow it, and a bit about its vitamin content and usefulness. (See review of Garlic in the Plants section). The thing is that although it tastes great and makes for an excellent flavour in cooking, it also has an awful lot of medicinal uses and can be used to help ward off a wide range of ailments. From my own personal perspective it might help for me to mention here ..." Read review

Natures Wonder Drug

Advantages-

Disadvantages-

"Garlic is one of the easiest thing to grow in the garden, the most useful herb to have in the house and boasts one of the most interesting heritages of all plants. Grown from seeds or cloves, it is very cold tolerant and so may be planted before the end of the frosts. It does best in rich well drained soils, does not like too much water and although will grow in shady areas will produce the biggest bulbs in the sunniest parts of the garden. I find ..." Read review

Garlic - Bad Smell of Success

AdvantagesSeems to alleviate a host of ailments.

DisadvantagesCauses odour, some may be intolerant to it.

"...to have been written about garlic being good for the heart, cholesterol, circulation and a host of other conditions, but I thought I would add my "two-pence-worth" based on my experience of this pungent little herb. To begin with, I must say that I have never found any benefit in taking garlic supplements, whether or not they were of the odourless variety. But I definitely have found fresh garlic bulbs to make a difference to the state of my health. ..." Read review

Does my breath smell...

AdvantagesGreat to treat minor illnesses.

DisadvantagesCan cause bad breath!

"...I therefore love to eat Garlic for reasons, which I am about to explain. Within the history of the human race, the Garlic plant has been commonly known as a useful treatment to minor medicinal ailments for many hundreds or should I say thousands of years but where it originates there is not actual written evidence (reference have been made in many early written texts though). Garlic also, tastes good too, my opinion and I am sticking to it. I remember ..." Read review

A healthy natural antibiotic, and a yummy thing to eat

Advantages-

Disadvantages-

"...quote - another name for Garlic is 'Stinking Rose'. Other names are Poor Mans Treacle, Rustic Treacle, and of course, it's official latin name, Allium Sativum. The name seems particularly odd when you consider that garlic is in no way related to the Rose , although it is related to onions, leeks, shallots, and chives. Perhaps the garlic looks like a rose from a distance, after a heavy nights drinking, in a darkened room somewhere. But, theres no ..." Read review

DisadvantagesNasty niffs

"...to comparing to that of garlic which has played an important role in so much of man's chequered past. Far from being boring, its actually quite fascinating. Well I thought so. ~What Is It~ Duh! Stupid question to begin with then. Well, maybe not because it transpires that garlic is actually a member of the LILY family(a bouquet would look lovely on your mantlepiece madam) and perhaps less surprisingly a close relative of the onion. "...in the benefits of eating garlic and making it part of your healthy eating schedule. I don't take the garlic capsules as I like to have the real thing and I can't taste it very well when it's cooked, so I eat raw garlic! Yes, I know it's smelly and maybe that's why, as a divorced lady, I have yet to find a soul mate. :-) Having said that, nor do vampires come to visit me. I don't eat garlic on a daily basis but I do eat it if I feel the beginnings ..." Read review
