Advantages Advantages Easy to use, clear display, holds all data for later analysis

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit bulky, quite pricey

I seem to be the exception here in that I don't use my Garmin Forerunner 305 for running! In fact I use it for 2 things - horseriding and walking. However, much of my experience with it applies to all. It is quite large as a watch, but light to wear although bulky. It is not terribly cumbersome, if it were any smaller it would be difficult to use as it needs some space for the display, function buttons etc, but it isn't exactly discreet. Also the rubber strap is a bit basic. Most of what you need on a run/walk/ride is controlled by the two main buttons on the front. These are quite large and ... more

Garmin Forerunner 305 with heart rate monitor! I received my Garmin Forerunner as a Christmas present 2 years ago and it’s still going strong, despite using it at least five times a week. Garmin Forerunner The Garmin Forerunner is a GPS- enabled trainer with heart rate monitor. It has many different functions. For example, it records times, distances, pace per km/mile, heart rate and calories. Accuracy Personally I have found my Garmin very accurate in recording times for running races and cycling events because you just press start when the gun goes off and finish once you have crossed the ... more

Advantages Advantages Lots of feedback about your training!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Side buttons are a bit small. Strap can be uncomfortable.

The Garmin Forerunner 305 is a personal GPS trainer with Heart Rate Monitor. I've been using mine now for over 6 months, so I hope this review will cover all aspects of the Forerunner! I should start by saying that I really like this unit; I have used it for walks, jogging, and cycling and it has worked pretty much as I required. In the box The Forerunner 305 is packed with features, but out of the box, this is what you get: The forerunner itself Docking pod USB lead charger instruction manual and software The docking pod is what lets you transfer the training information over to the computer ... more

Advantages Advantages lots of numbers, battery lasts ages, works great

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

*Garmin 305* While most people would ask for a party, lots of alcohol or a fancy car for their 18th birthday, I asked for money to buy myself a Garmin Forerunner 305 Wrist-Worn GPS Personal Training Device with Heart Rate Monitor. I had read about these wonderful gadgets on a running forum, and as a keen runner and cyclist, with a love for numbers, I wanted one. The Garmin Forerunner 305 is one in a range of gadgets for athletes, which help you record every step you run/cycle/walk. This is an amazing gadget, that is worn on the wrist like a watch, and although it does tell the time, it also ... more

Advantages Advantages All you could need in a watch

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

The Garmin Fore runner 305 has been a life saver for me.. if you are a runner and want to track your progress, train against a vitual partner or simple see how far or fast you are running. then i would advise you get this watch. it is light weight are to be honest when you are running you do not really realise that it is there. i use it on every run i do. even if its just a slow recovery run then i will use the heart rate monitor , pace and distance to make sure it is slow and i am not working harder than I should be. i would say that this is well worth the money and perfect for any runner ... more

Advantages Advantages Lightweight, long battery life, good buttons, waterproof (for outdoor swimming), great reception.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Genuinely can't think of any.

I am a serving military officer in the UK and am always on the lookout for anything to give me an edge in my fitness training. I suffer from personal motivation issues as I'm sure most people do. There's not always someone to train with and it can be too easy to take the weak option and head to the shop for lunch instead of hitting the trail. On a trip to Paris a few years ago I picked up a Garmin Forerunner 205 and was immediately impressed. Although it was bulky, without a heart-rate monitor and with relatively poor satellite reception, I was immediately hooked. The ability to track my ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent training aid for heartrate, pace, speed monitoring and recording

Disadvantages Disadvantages Altimeter not 100% correct

An excellent training aid. This item gives you heartrate, speed, time taken, lap times, for running, biking, and other sports. This can be downloaded to the included software as your training log and then uploaded to websites such as Google earth where you can view your training mapped against satellite images. I aren't too sure of the accuracy of the altimeter part of the satellite navigation product, but that does not bother my training too much. Another good feature is that on the website mapmyrun.com you can save your run course that you created and upload it to your Garmin and then train ... more

Advantages Advantages great functionality, hard wearing, GPS works very well

    Disadvantages Disadvantages bulky

I have been using the forerunner for around 5 years now, and it is still working brilliantly. It has all the functionality you expect from a running/heart rate monitor watch, plus the added functionality of different workouts to choose from and GPS of course. You are able to select pre-installed workouts, or you can run against a little computer man. It is really great fun! The GPS works quite well. It may sometimes take some time to get reception, but normally gets it within a minute, unless it's a really really cloudy day, in which case it takes longer. We compared it with the forerunner 405 ... more
