Advantages: Cost, Style, Looks,
Disadvantages: None as yet

...I decided on either the Garmin or Navman which to be honest I had never heard of any of these. I finally decided on the Garmin just due to the positive reviews that I had read on many sites. Time to research……. **Garmin! Who are Garmin? ** Garmin are relatively new company and have only been on the go since 1989 which in my opinion is not that long at all. They are famous for providing low cost GPS to the entire world. In addition to this they provide ...
...I decided on the Garmin Street pilot I3 for a few reason but mainly because is small, sleek and stylish not to forget the absolute superb price it was available at. This particular model was only released in October 2005 and is continually undated via the website; this I thought was another good idea too. Other systems charged you for receiving updates or even charged monthly/annual fees. This model does not have any additional charges other than ...

The POI loader allows you to upload your own POI's to the device, most people will as I do will use this feature to upload the location of safety cameras. The POI loader is a wizard driven application that takes information from comma separated value (CSV) files, these ...

GPS in your handbag for £120!

Advantages: Small, compact, intuitive, easy to use, customisable, inexpensive, Satellite Navigation at a great price.

...time user is how the Garmin i3 is advertised - yet as my partner looks to invest in a new GPS for his new car he is coveting my Garmin i3, even after years of using in car Satellite Navigation. The Garmin has most of the features of the more expensive models of Satellite Navigation, but without the huge price tag… as far as we could see the only thing really missing is the touch screen and ability to get real-time updates while driving. Having said ...

...an artical that mentioned that Garmin were close to releaseing a new model in their Streetpilot range. On further investigation I discovered that this was aimed at the 'first time' GPS user. Garmin have an excellent reputation in the GPS market, I was myself an owner of one of their earlier models, but this didn't have the navigation facility. I bought my unit from Maplin, at the time of writing they were the first reseller in the UK and offering ...

There's a load of POIs that you can download from the internet, these include things such as supermarkets, golf clubs, theatres...you name. I got this unit for over a year now and had travelled up and down the country with it. Not once had it let me down. Now let me explain my needs, as a building surveyor, I have to get to some out of the way places. Sometimes I am only provided with a post code, or a partial address. This little unit can nail down the location i need to get to easily. I can do a full post code search unlike some models (that cost more) which can only do a XX12 3 type ...

...go. Garmin: Garmin is part of a group of campanies that design and manufacture navigation and comms equiment for the aviation and consumer markets, they have been in the industry since 1989. Garmin i3 streetpilot - the mapbook is dead.

Advantages: never get lost again, very portable.
Disadvantages: you can't have your music up loud.

I bought my Garmin streetpilot i3 because I got fed up of passengers map reading and getting me completly lost and then giving excuses like, "you're driving too fast", or "you should have turned left back there". And the best one at the start of a journey "are the blue lines rivers or motorways?" Anyway, the Streetpilot cost me £129 from Halfords who were very helpful and knowledgeable about all their GPS systems. Basically I bought the cheapest ...
...on average once a month. The first thing I noticed was that the streetpilot took a long time to find the satelites. I quieried this with Halfords and was told that some cars have a thermal element built into the windscreen which can block the signals to and from satelites. To get around the problem, you need to buy an exterior aerial for another £20.00, something buyers need to be aware of. I found that if I held the device out of the car just before ...

Germin i3- Best thing since sliced bread!

Advantages: Excellent product, takes you right to the door!
Disadvantages: None yet found!

I bought the Garmin i3, to help me with my job. My sense of direction leaves much to be desired, as does my map reading skills! Sound familiar? Then read on! The Garmin i3, is tiny with 3 buttons, a back button, scroll click button and off. When I opened the box, my first thought was 'Oh is that it?!' As I switched it on I was amazed at how clear the screen was, even though it was so small. It is so simple to use, and it truly is a plug in and ...

Cheapest, most useful Satnav I have used

Advantages: Cost (£99), Size, Battery and Car powered, Colour screen
Disadvantages: Screen may be small for some

Features 12 Channel receiver - Very accurate, even displays which side of the road you are on. 2 inch Colour screen - Zoomable with detail that can be altered, the update speed can be a little slow at times but certainly good enough for navigation. Windscreen and dashboard mount - Can be mounted on the windscreen, but also comes with a smooth sticky-backed disk to stick to the dashboard. The windscreen mount can then stick on this instead, bringing ...
...Size makes it easy to hide in the car when parked, small display makes it less intrusive when driving during the day and night. I have found the large display satnav units to be overpowering and very off-putting especially at night making it difficult to drive at night. Power supply - Can be powered by 2 AA batteries, perfect for walking around with it, or powered from the cigarette lighter. Simplicity - Very simple operation, navigation and display. ...

What a bargain

Advantages: Very Cheap, Never get lost, add speed cameras
Disadvantages: None as yet

I bought the Garmin i3 for £99 new. I had heard a lot about it before the purchase, but it was definately the price that made me buy it, I don't think I'll see another bargain like it this year. Taking it out of the box, it was very small, which doesn't pose a problem to me, and seemed very lightweight. The box also include a car cigarette lighter adaptor, a USB lead for attaching it to your computer, a computer USB driver CD and various attatchments ...
...I loaded up the CD on my computer and attatched the i3. I have now successfully and easily downloaded Speed Cameras, Football grounds, shops, petrol stations; the list goes on. I am powering it on two AA batteries, which last 6 hours alone. It can also obviously be powered by the cigarette lighter, but not charged by it. It took a while to get the satelites at first, but now it works perfectly. You can search by all means of ways, by far the easiest ...

...an item. After buying my Garmin StreetPilot I3 I was up and running withing minutes. It is an amazing piece of kit. The support from Garmin has been exceptional and software updates are sent to me when they are available. Cheap (or not), simple, maps out of date

Advantages: Simple setup, Instructions easy to hear while driving
Disadvantages: Maps out of date, instructions not always right/helpful

Bought one for Christmas (£99 from carphonewarehouse) Setup: Add bateries and turn on. Very easy! Has to be attached to or near a car window to find any satelites - takes a few minutes to do this (havent looked for an external antennae yet though) On turning unit on, we get a prompt telling us that the maps are over a year out of date, and a url where we can go to buy updates. No an impressive start. There is no mapping software provided with ...
...seems you need to buy MapSource from Garmin. Add £60 to the price of the unit and suddenly this is starting to look expensive... In use: We've tested this unit around where we live, on a trip to Leicestershire, and on a trip top the Derbyshire Dales. Once it has found the satelites, the unit calculates a route quickly enough. Voice prompts then kick in (except once when it took 15 minutes driving before they started all of a sudden) Things we ...

great little gps

Advantages: small, good value for money, quite loud
Disadvantages: every thing done on crowl weel

The Garmin I3 is one of the smallest in car gps units I have seen. With the capability of working on battery that can be removed from the unit and replaced. Both rechargeable battery and standard alkaline battery will work in the unit and in settings there is an option to tell the unit what type of batteries you are using. The battery life on this unit is about 5-7 hours. The whole unit is controlled by a scroll wheel. This has both its advantages ...
...can control the hole unit with one hand whilst holding it. It also meant that it could be designed to be about the size of a tennis ball. The disadvantages of the scroll wheel is that it time consuming. And if you are not careful when u push the button to select the letter it sometimes slips to the next letter. the best part about this unit is the screen. it is a well proportioned size with exhalant quality, it also is quite easy to see in the car ...
