...I decided on either the Garmin or Navman which to be honest I had never heard of any of these. I finally decided on the Garmin just due to the positive reviews that I had read on many sites. Time to research……. **Garmin! Who are Garmin? **
Garmin are relatively new company and have only been on the go since 1989 which in my opinion is not that long at all. They are famous for providing low cost GPS to the entire world. In addition to this they provide ... ...I decided on the Garmin Street pilot I3 for a few reason but mainly because is small, sleek and stylish not to forget the absolute superb price it was available at. This particular model was only released in October 2005 and is continually undated via the website; this I thought was another good idea too. Other systems charged you for receiving updates or even charged monthly/annual fees. This model does not have any additional charges other than ...

--------------------------POI Loader--------------------------
Garmin have produced a Points of Interest (POI) loader for the StreetPilot i3, which is quite a handy utility. The POI loader allows you to upload your own POI's to the device, most people will as I do will use this feature to upload the location of safety cameras. The POI loader is a wizard driven application that takes information from comma separated value (CSV) files, these ...

...time user is how the Garmin i3 is advertised - yet as my partner looks to invest in a new GPS for his new car he is coveting my Garmin i3, even after years of using in car Satellite Navigation. The Garmin has most of the features of the more expensive models of Satellite Navigation, but without the huge price tag… as far as we could see the only thing really missing is the touch screen and ability to get real-time updates while driving. ...an artical that mentioned that Garmin were close to releaseing a new model in their Streetpilot range. On further investigation I discovered that this was aimed at the 'first time' GPS user. Garmin have an excellent reputation in the GPS market, I was myself an owner of one of their earlier models, but this didn't have the navigation facility.

There's a load of POIs that you can download from the internet, these include things such as supermarkets, golf clubs, theatres...you name. The most popular of these must be locations of UK Safety Cameras. This is a great thing to have. The I3 will then beep to warn you when you are in the vicinity of a safety camera. ...

I got this unit for over a year now and had travelled up and down the country with it. Not once had it let me down.
Now let me explain my needs, as a building surveyor, I have to get to some out of the way places. Sometimes I am only provided with a post code, or a partial address. I can do a full post code search unlike some models (that cost more) which can only do a XX12 3 type ... ...with the local street name and or junction, or a facility such as a school, hospital, etc... and it WILL get me there.
Now what happens if I don't even have the address, as it happens when I want to visit some attractions in the woods? I bought my Garmin streetpilot i3 because I got fed up of passengers map reading and getting me completly lost and then giving excuses like, "you're driving too fast", or "you should have turned left back there". The first thing I noticed was that the streetpilot took a long time to find the satelites. To get around the problem, you need to buy an exterior aerial for another £20.00, something buyers need to be aware of. I found that if I held the device out of the car just before ...

12 Channel receiver - Very accurate, even displays which side of the road you are on.
2 inch Colour screen - Zoomable with detail that can be altered, the update speed can be a little slow at times but certainly good enough for navigation.

I bought the Garmin i3 for £99 new. I had heard a lot about it before the purchase, but it was definately the price that made me buy it, I don't think I'll see another bargain like it this year.
