Advantages Advantages An NHBC Backed house

Disadvantages Disadvantages Trust me you will need it!

As with other people who are writing reviews about George Wimpey, it is my bad experience that is motivating me to write, but I am going to try and be as positive as I can. After my ex destroyed my last house, it left me with a worry that I could move into someone else’s disaster zone, this is what made my mind up that I wanted to move into a brand spanking new home, where I wouldn't have to do anything. It took almost 9 months to find a development that not only appealed to me, but also I could afford. Living in the southeast is not cheap, and new houses always carry a premium. Once you have ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor Base Specification - Options Could be Better

The concept of reviewing things is a sound one, tell people your thoughts (good or bad) about products or services you use or buy - anything from a tea bag to a hotel room. Well, this time I'm returning to Ciao to write a review of our most expensive ever purchase. I'm talking brick and motor. I'm talking a quarter of a million pound's worth of brand-spanking-new George Wimpy real-estate. Be warned, there's so much to tell you this is a really long review - but there's a gold star in it for anyone who makes it to the end! WHERE IT ALL STARTED The post Christmas blues seemed to appear this year ... more

Advantages Advantages Great house....eventually, good deal

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very poor quality finish, flood at 1am on our first night

Well I've finally got round to finding the time to write up my review of George Wimpey homes as the follow up to my Miller homes review (http://www.ciao.co.uk/MillerHomesReview5782302). I'll keep exactly the same layout as the Miller home review to ensure a fair review of each against the same points. So here goes…. Buying the house It was around July/August of 2006 when my wife and I went out to look for our first home together. We were both set on a new build house and so whenever we were driving round and saw one of those little yellow development signs we were drawn in like moths to a ... more

Advantages Advantages Great service, excellent choices

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very hard to find a good mortgage rate on a new build - beware of this!!

My husband and I are just buying a Wimpey home, but so far have been plagued by obstacles at each turn. We planned to sell our 3 bed end terranced house, but Wimpey offered us a ridiculously low price for their Assisted Movers Scheme, which wouldn't even over our outstanding mortgage of 60%LTV. We have since decided to rent out our property and were able to get a great tracker mortgage from HSBC. We have spent the past 10 years going up our existing property and wanted a house already of a high standard, so a new build was the perfect choice. We managed to find a beautiful 4 bedroom detached ... more

Advantages Advantages reasonably priced, large range to suit all purchasers, good quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages not usually much of a discount

Moved into first Wimpey home (£2000) in 1961 curtesy of my parents. I think they were the first national builder whose prices came within the range of ordinary working class people. They still live in that house -with no problems so Wimpey can't be all that bad! I bought a Wimpey semi, with my new husband in 1971(£4000). They allowed us to alter specification quite a lot in those days and we got discounts for omitting what became useless extras (eg the coal bunker) No problems with that house, but buying off plan, which had proved a great move for my parents was not so kind to us as the ... more

Advantages Advantages Great location, lovely apartment, easy move.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Appalling attention to detail and aftersales care.

Sales Staff at showhome at showhome ranged from incompetent to excellent. I quickly learnt who to deal with! Managed to snag the flat I wanted after another buyer dropped out and the sales staff called to let me know. Part exchange was given on my old house and solicitors fees paid. No problems with solicitor. £6000 of extras given. Inspection with friendly but ineficient site manager one week before moving in highlighted several areas for concern, but I was assured that these would be rectified before moving in. Completion date was put back two days to allow work to be completed, but on ... more

    Advantages Advantages Modern, affordable homes

Disadvantages Disadvantages No end of niggles....

I checked out my local George Wimpey development after being fed up of having very little space in our previous home. The show homes looked fab - they were very modern compared to all the other developer's & prices were much lower than simialr sized homes on nearby developments. We chose a 3-storey home since there was so much more space. Wimpey were fantastic at this point (bear in mind this was 3 yrs ago, when homes were selling well, so they didn't have to be so helpful in order to sell homes....service may be even better now?!). They helped us sell our old home, by lowering the price & ... more

signed up to buy wimpey home off plan, I WOULD LIKE SOME FEED BACK ON WIMPEY CONSERVATORIES. WE HAVE SEEN ONE BUT NOT TOO IMPRESSED WITH THE FINISH. WE WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL TO HEAR OF ANYONES THOUGHTS ON THIS. THANK YOU. SO FAR OUR GEORGE WIMPEY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN A GOOD ONE, ALTHOUGH OFF COURSE WE ARE NOT EVEN MOVED OUT OF OUR OLD HOME. THE HELP WITH SELLING OUR HOUSE HAS BEEN GOOD WE HAD 15 VIEWINGS IN 10 DAYS WHICH WAS VERY TIRESOME BUT IT AMOUNTED TO AN OFFER JUST £2000 UNDER THE ASKING PRICE. WE NOW WONDER ... more

Advantages Advantages There are not any that I can think off!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Misrepresentation, no after care

We purchased our George Wimpey Home and moved in at the end of February 2006 (it is August 2007 at time of writing this). Would we buy another Gge Wimpey home? Not in this life time. We purchased our home, which was to have a small ASDA (the size of a tesco express) opposite (as told by the sales office) we actually have a supermarket opposite with an estimated annual turnover of £23million. We managed to squeeze £20,000 of options from Wimpey's as we told them that buying an executive style home should warrant more than the £5k they offered. We also got removals paid for and stamp duty paid ... more

1 Star Quick review of George Wimpey Homes by Level 1 deppmaz 06/03/2008
We purchased our home in Sep 06. Our solicitor told us that Wimpey had received the funds so we could go and collect our keys from the Sales Office. The sales assistant said she hadn't received a call so we wouldn't give us the keys. We asked her to call her head office and she refused because she said she wasn't allowed to call them. So we told her we would phone, but again she refused. After 20 mins of us persisting, she called her head office and was told that Wimpey had received the funds 3hrs previous and they had ... more
