Maybe they should stick to cooking burgers! Diamond review

AdvantagesAn NHBC Backed house

DisadvantagesTrust me you will need it!

"...who are writing reviews about George Wimpey, it is my bad experience that is motivating me to write, but I am going to try and be as positive as I can. After my ex destroyed my last house, it left me with a worry that I could move into someone else’s disaster zone, this is what made my mind up that I wanted to move into a brand spanking new home, where I wouldn't have to do anything. It took almost 9 months to find a development that not only ..." Read review

You, Me & George Diamond review Review with images

AdvantagesBuild Quality, Price, Discount & Service

DisadvantagesPoor Base Specification - Options Could be Better

"...million pound's worth of brand-spanking-new George Wimpy real-estate. Be warned, there's so much to tell you this is a really long review - but there's a gold star in it for anyone who makes it to the end! WHERE IT ALL STARTED The post Christmas blues seemed to appear this year about the 1st December (26 days earlier than normal!) and I just wasn't happy. I needed something new to focus on, my feet were getting itchy and the guttering needed ..." Read review

Good start but cracks soon start to show

AdvantagesGreat house....eventually, good deal

DisadvantagesVery poor quality finish, flood at 1am on our first night

"...write up my review of George Wimpey homes as the follow up to my Miller homes review (http://www.ciao.co.uk/Miller_Homes__Review_5782302). I'll keep exactly the same layout as the Miller home review to ensure a fair review of each against the same points. So here goes…. ===Buying the house=== It was around July/August of 2006 when my wife and I went out to look for our first home together. We were both set on a new build house and so whenever ..." George Wimpey new build house

AdvantagesGreat service, excellent choices

DisadvantagesVery hard to find a good mortgage rate on a new build - beware of this!!

"My husband and I are just buying a Wimpey home, but so far have been plagued by obstacles at each turn. We planned to sell our 3 bed end terranced house, but Wimpey offered us a ridiculously low price for their Assisted Movers Scheme, which wouldn't even over our outstanding mortgage of 60%LTV. We have since decided to rent out our property and were able to get a great tracker mortgage from HSBC. We have spent the past 10 years going up our existing ..." Read review

seasoned purchaser

Advantagesreasonably priced, large range to suit all purchasers, good quality

Disadvantagesnot usually much of a discount

"Moved into first Wimpey home (£2000) in 1961 curtesy of my parents. I think they were the first national builder whose prices came within the range of ordinary working class people. They still live in that house -with no problems so Wimpey can't be all that bad! I bought a Wimpey semi, with my new husband in 1971(£4000). They allowed us to alter specification quite a lot in those days and we got discounts for omitting what became useless extras ..." Read review

Poor build quality

AdvantagesGreat location, lovely apartment, easy move.

DisadvantagesAppalling attention to detail and aftersales care.

"Sales Staff at showhome at showhome ranged from incompetent to excellent. I quickly learnt who to deal with! Managed to snag the flat I wanted after another buyer dropped out and the sales staff called to let me know. Part exchange was given on my old house and solicitors fees paid. No problems with solicitor. £6000 of extras given. Inspection with friendly but ineficient site manager one week before moving in highlighted several areas for concern, ..." Read review

George Wimpey Homes

AdvantagesModern, affordable homes

DisadvantagesNo end of niggles....

"I checked out my local George Wimpey development after being fed up of having very little space in our previous home. The show homes looked fab - they were very modern compared to all the other developer's & prices were much lower than simialr sized homes on nearby developments. We chose a 3-storey home since there was so much more space. Wimpey were fantastic at this point (bear in mind this was 3 yrs ago, when homes were selling well, so they ..." Read review

Quick review of George Wimpey Homes

"signed up to buy wimpey home off plan, I WOULD LIKE SOME FEED BACK ON WIMPEY CONSERVATORIES. WE HAVE SEEN ONE BUT NOT TOO IMPRESSED WITH THE FINISH. WE WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL TO HEAR OF ANYONES THOUGHTS ON THIS. THANK YOU. SO FAR OUR GEORGE WIMPEY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN A GOOD ONE, ALTHOUGH OFF COURSE WE ARE NOT EVEN MOVED OUT OF OUR OLD HOME. THE HELP WITH SELLING OUR HOUSE HAS BEEN GOOD WE HAD 15 VIEWINGS IN 10 DAYS WHICH WAS VERY TIRESOME BUT IT AMOUNTED TO AN OFFER JUST £2000 UNDER THE ASKING PRICE. WE NOW WONDER IF OUR HOUSE WAS UNDER PRICED OR IF THE RIGHT PERSON CAME ALONG AT THE RIGHT TIME! I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED AS TO THE NEXT STAGE. INCIDENTALLY WE ARE ON ASSISTED MOVE WITH GEORGE WIMPEY.

House on verge of collapse!

AdvantagesThere are not any that I can think off!

DisadvantagesMisrepresentation, no after care

"We purchased our George Wimpey Home and moved in at the end of February 2006 (it is August 2007 at time of writing this). Would we buy another Gge Wimpey home? Not in this life time. We purchased our home, which was to have a small ASDA (the size of a tesco express) opposite (as told by the sales office) we actually have a supermarket opposite with an estimated annual turnover of £23million. We managed to squeeze £20,000 of options from Wimpey's ..." Read review

Quick review of George Wimpey Homes

"We purchased our home in Sep 06. Our solicitor told us that Wimpey had received the funds so we could go and collect our keys from the Sales Office. The sales assistant said she hadn't received a call so we wouldn't give us the keys. We asked her to call her head office and she refused because she said she wasn't allowed to call them. So we told her we would phone, but again she refused. After 20 mins of us persisting, she called her head office and was told that Wimpey had received the funds 3hrs previous and they had called and left her a voicemail message to advise her. That was just the start of our problems.

George Wimpey Very Very Poor

AdvantagesNone

DisadvantagesEverything

"...top of all these problems george wimpeys customer care is very poor so bad I got an independent inspector to come and produce a report on my house. the report contained over 100 issues. The report was sent to Wimpey homes in march and I got a reply from them in May, the reply started "Whilst writing I would like to point out that we as a company do not normally act on snagging surveys carried out by so called independent comapnies" The letter went ..." George Wimpey New Home

AdvantagesGood aftersales service.

DisadvantagesGas supply could have gone smoother

"...6 months in my new George Wimpey home I can't recommend them highly enough. We moved in at the end of May 2008 and got a really good deal with lots thrown in, lights, curtains etc... There have been teething problems with the new house, which I have to say you will probably get with all new houses, but they have been put right straight away and at a time to suit us. The site Manager can't do enough to help, even sending workmen round to do maintenance ..." Read review
