Advantages: Great range of topics dealt with honestly and professionally Disadvantages: Probably premature, to the point where a second autobiography is likely at some point
Steven Gerrard is one of the most iconic footballers of the current generation. He is very much a player capable of playing a number of roles on the pitch, possessing great tackling and passing ability, a vicious shot, and great athleticism. A local Liverpool lad, he joined the Liverpool FC youth setup at an early age. He rose steadily through the ranks and broke into the Liverpool first team in 1999. He was made captain of the club in 2003 and is ... ...as one of the best footballers in the world, he has made over 450 appearances for Liverpool and scored over 100 goals. In that time he has won every major club honour except the Premiership (at least at the time of writing). He was voted the PFA Young Player of the Year in 2001, and was voted Player of the Year in 2006. He was voted the Champions League most valuable player for the 2005 campaign after Liverpool won the trophy for the fifth time, ...

Advantages: Great Player, Great Book Disadvantages: Not Enough Pages
I liked this book, I really liked it, but then again I'm a big fan of Liverpool and a very big fan of Steven Gerrard - although most people who pick up an autobiography usually have some interest in the person on the cover. That aside this was still a very good book. It was in depth, interesting and above all honest, I think.
When I pick up an autobiography I like to know a bit about the person in question's background, but I don't want to have ... ...unnecessarily introduced to mum, dad, brothers, sisters etc……. This book, quite literally, starts at the beginning, and at first I got a little annoyed about hearing how little Steven would run around the streets of Liverpool playing football, then about family, then school - but as the book progressed everything seemed to have a purpose and I was glad I stuck with it.
The Gerrard family realised they had something special in the way of a talented ...

Believe me it is difficult, very very difficult. A thinker as he is on the field and his book proves that he is more than that- a thinker and a philosopher too. Other wise how can one explain the passion, the honesty, his beliefs, his philosophy of life as footballer of the highest class and a true family man, who has not put either his profession above his family and visa versa. How many celebrities, forget about football celebrities, has been able ... ...these two so admirably simply because being a celebrity, a private figure he never forgot HE IS FIRST A HUMAN BEING and then anything else. No wonder human values never over-rode his fathom less talent as a footballer.
But I must first thank, probably Gerrard need not, the nurses, the doctors, the support stuff and the tremendous advancement of science and technology more so of medical science. Why? Do you think I would have been writing this review ...

I love football and my favourite team in the world is the mighty Liverpool Football Club. The passion of their fans that is visible at every match when they chant you'll never walk alone as well as the songs they mad up about all the players and Rafael Benitez. And one such player whose name is chanted is Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard.
Why did I buy the book?
I was in a bookshop in Dublin, just browsing at all the new releases they had on offer. ... ...decided to buy it as he is one of my favourite players and I wanted to see from his perspective what life growing up in Liverpool is like, what Liverpool Football Club means to him and also what does it mean to have the Kop end of Anfield chanting his name.
What did I learn from the book?
I learned alot about the infliuential and versatile captain of Liverpool. Family is very important to him. From the book you can tell that he is utterly devoted ...

Why did I buy this book?
I guess like most people you see an autobiography of a famous person you like and you have to have it. I have also been a fan of Liverpool football team and as you will probably guess Steven Gerrard is my favourite footballer!
I This books starts from the beginning of his childhood from when Steven would run around the streets of his hometown which is Liverpool playing football. The book then goes on to tell you about his ... ...had a special son who was very talented when it came to football. Since Steven was little all he ever wanted to do was play football. In the book it tells you how he's dreams of becoming a footballer nearly came to an end when he accidentally kicked the prong of a garden for which embedded itself in his toe. Luckily he recovered and with the support of his dad also named Steven he was guided into the Liverpool FC team.
Steven Gerrard was a professional ...

Advantages: Very well written, detailed, gripping, provides a unique insight into many areas of football Disadvantages: None
When you pick up an autobiography, chances are you're going to be at least a bit interested in the person on the cover. So, it will be primarily football fans who read Gerrard's book; certainly, as a lifelong Liverpool fan, I was extremely interested in what the hero of many had to say. I was blown away by the quality of this gripping book, which kept me glued from start to finish. It is interesting, honest, and provides an insight into one of the ... ...the actual content, but there is never a dull moment. There is a wealth of content of Steven's childhood, always the most interesting part of an autobiography, which reveals the inspirations and deep relationship with football that he forged from birth. Particuarly for Liverpool fans, the book provides a wonderful insight into the workings of the club. Other readers will also be interested in the goings on of the Premier League, and the wonderfully ...

Advantages: Just a brilliant read. You will fly through it!!! Disadvantages: None at all.
This is without doubt, the best autobiography I have ever read. I am 28 and have supported Liverpool since 1986.
I have read quite a few Liverpool autobiographies in the last year or so and this is without doubt the best one. Ones I have read, which include:
- Peter Beardsley
- Robbie Fowler
- John Barnes
- Jan Molby
- Alan Hansen
- Kenny Dalglish
- Gerrard Houllier
In my experience, when the above talk about growing up, it can be slightly ... ...100% sure what it is that is so great about this book, something just grips you and you cannot wait to pick up the book again.
This book is honest, funny and interesting, giving insight into the Houllier era, Rafa, John Terry, Frank Lampard, Michael Owen, it has everything.
Stevie also talks frankly about the World Cup preparations, both 2002 and 2006, the treble winning team, etc.
A great indication of his honesty is his comments on Salif Diao, ...

i love reading biographies as it opens everyone up to the person and shows us stuff that we didnt know about the person. This book is no different it tells us things about the liverpool captain that very few people would have known except maybe his family and friends before reading this book. It gives a great insight into how he has kept his feet on the ground how he felt about his first call up to the england team. It also shows how he progressed ... ...was a chance he might never play football again, It gives the reader a new understanding of the person who is now the captain of one of the biggest clubs in england.
If you have any interest in football i would suggest reading this book iv read it about 4 times and its a book i find that when i start reading it i cant stop. ...

I bought Steven Gerrards autobiography simply because he is my favourite player! He's amazing! The book is very personal and tells you about his struggle to become a top footballer, his school ife, family life, his daughters and of course his career. There is a lot of detail about his school life and all he had to go through to get into the Liverpool youths with Michael Owen and information about how he missed out on being in the England youth team. ... ...players and managers etc. Most of the book is really interesting, you learn a hell of a lot and I didn't want to put it down. The only thing I found that I didn't like was the fact he went into detail about some games in the last world cup that I found a bit boring because I was watching it so I know what happened BUT it does tell it from his personal opinion. If you like Steven Gerrard this book is well worth the money and you'll be able to find ...

As a fan of autobiographies I will always read anyones at least once! Im not a Liverpool fan, nor a massive Gerrard fan but decided on this book as some holiday reading! It done the trick, its light and entertaining at parts. It was very straight forward in its content, simply retelling his childhood and how he became one of Englands most talented footballers. Im always slightly put off by people who can write their life story at such a young age, ... ...I have read. I think maybe 20years along the road with more life and family experience behind him then the book may have been slightly more compelling. A bit like Pele's self titled wonder peice! A perfect example of an extremely gifted football who used his talents and statue to achieve a life worthy of an autobiography! I wouldnt be put off reading it tho, there are a few surprises there! ...

Advantages: Durable Hardback. Ideal for more than one reader. Disadvantages: Quite heavy, so cumbersome to take on short journeys.
I should state, that before reading this book, Steven was already one of my heroes.
Now, however, having read it, he has become an even greater hero of mine.
If you are a Liverpool fan, it is a definate MUST READ.
Famous people, from all walks of life, have various things, good and bad, written about them in the press.
It is not, however, until you take the time to read their own individual story, that you realise, how much of it is rubbish.
... ...he was a bit of a bighead, and was paid far too much for what he does. I never realised that footballers actually work very hard.
They have a lot of commitments, and very strict rules to adhere to.
For many people I know, and lots that I don't know, it will come as a surprise to find out that as a true red, born and bred, Steven has always and will always be a Liverpool fan.
If you cannot afford to buy this book new. I would strongly recommend ...

In Stevens book he gives you a very good idea of how he spent his childhood, you can picture the events as you read, all the way through the book he does this. I think it's a book that even non Liverpool fans could read, he explains about the England setup when he 1st started and throughout. He tells us of the Liverpool youth system and when he was growing up as a Liverpool player and his feelings. He mentions several ex players and staff, telling ... ...around the grounds. He goes on to write about his relationship with Alex Curran and his kids, His Liverpool career so far, his struggles with injuries at bad times and his relationships with the players and managers he has worked with. Advantages: Honest and detailed insight into Gerrard and his life Disadvantages: Some chapters are long
First of all i'm female and not a big football fanatic. Secondly, I have a Liverpool influence in the house thanks to my other half. I borrowed this book off a friend on holiday who is a big liverpool fan and highly recommended it.
The book is a good read and is well written. It depicts the life and trials of Steven Gerrard through his eyes and words. He is very honest in what he tells you and full of emotion which I really enjoyed. There is a lot ... ...fan, would be great. To the basic non football reader there are still a lot of house hold names that you will hear. I was really impressed with the honesty in the book, gave you a well rounded insight into the man Steven Gerrard.
The chapters are a little long but each one is a different subject matter or sequence of his life so works out well.
A good read for football and non football followers alike. ...
