    I bought my wine red Les Paul Standard 10 years ago (approx). It was my first professional quality instrument and just by playing and owning it, I felt as though my ability had jumped by a factor of 10 and my instant rock star pose value just shot off the scale. Plus, the most under-rated guitarist, from one of the best rock bands of all time played one – Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy. Nowadays, Slash from GNR plays one that looks almost identical. It cost me £600 at the time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Playing in a punk/RnB outfit meant that the LP looked a bit “Rolls Royce” for the ... more

    OK, I've got a quick story for you. On my sandwich year from university I wanted to work somewhere a bit different so I got a job in Toronto, Canada. I went over there armed with my student loan and decided the time had come to buy a guitar that was a little bit special. So after a few weeks of looking around I ended up in Steve's Music Store on Queens Street in downtown Toronto (if you are into music and ever visit Toronto then you should go to Steve's as it is top notch).     An Introduction About a month ago I decided that it was time I purchased a new electric guitar. My faithful 1988 Gibson Les Paul has served me well for the last 9 years and is still going strong. The thing is though it’s now starting to increase in value and become a nice little investment so it could do with spending a bit less time on a beer soaked stage around clumsy band members and other musicians (including myself)!     What can I say? I've had my Gibson Les Paul for years now, and it is easily the best guitar I've ever played! Not only is it beautiful, but it's incredibly nice to play. As for the price, well... There's just too much to say about this guitar, so I'll do it in lots of stages. APPEARANCE: Incredible!     Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as versatile as a Strat, rather heavy and 'uncomfortable' body

    Got this from Melody Music in Kuantan, Malaysia for RM 4 800 (700 GBP or 1 400 USD) back in 1996. It has a heavy mahogany body with a slightly figured arched orange-red sunburst maple top. The body has no upper-bout chamfering where you rest your right arm (as on a Strat); and this does get a tad uncomfortable after a while. I've suffered from painful creases on my forearm after long gigs. The neck is also mahogany, with a 24 3/4" scale (as opposed to the 25 1/2" scale of a Strat) rosewood fingerboard, pearloid trapezoidal inlays, 22 jumbo frets and a single-ply white-yellow plastic binding ... more

    I ve had mine for 10 months now and I love it to death. The 60's style fit my hand beautifully and the weight is well balanced and not too heavy. Sounds. I gigg mine weekly and it produces a deep rich clean sound for thoes mellow tunes, a Peter Green type overdrive for blues right through to hi gain distortion and all done with a superior quality of tone. Build Quality..... C'mon Gibson sort it out!!!!. Mine has steps in the binding and the odd laquer blemish, and the bridge post are very spindley. So Why did I buy It?...     I found this to be a great guitar. I can say for sure that it does make you feel great playing it. To hear and feel the quality of a Gibson improves playing immesurably. The only thing is that they are expensive, so if you are considering buying one, you have to think is it worth it for you or would you be just as happy with,for example, a Les Paul Classic which is a lot cheaper. The only problem i have had with mine is that the tuning head has come loose. The screw doesnt bite into the headstock when i turn it, i wouldnt have expected this from a Gibson but it was easily fixed. Apart from ... more

    I can't explain why i am so happy when i keep in my hands Gibson and play it. It is a strange feeling. None of other guitars can make me feel myself so good as Gibson. For many years Gibson was making quality instruments which made the standards of rock music all over the world. Les Paul Standard is the guitar that set the standard for all solidbodies forever.
