SG - Special Guitar, Stunningly Good!

AdvantagesPlays well, feels great, sounds fantastic!

DisadvantagesNot cheap, could do with hard case supplying with it.

"...been after a USA built Gibson for some time now and decided to go for the SG Special in faded worn brown. This is the entry level for the legendary model (£645 in this case, though still expensive). Buying guitars online can save a LOT of money but it something of a lottery as you can get a real lemon sometimes. But as we'll see, I hit lucky this time. This parcel arrived at my door and I eagerly opened it to reveal..... well, a real beauty! The ..." Read review

My Gibson SG

AdvantagesGreat look, great sound and playability. Light

DisadvantagesQuite expensive therefore not for beginners

"...guitar! Price I purchased a wine red Gibson SG Special for £500 about 4 years ago. However the price now seems to be ranging from around £600 to £800 at most online dealers. Therefore it is certainly not an ideal guitar for beginners, make sure you will stick at playing before buying one! Guitar Materials The main body of the guitar (the wide end that you strum) is made from solid Mahogony, as is the neck (the thin part that you ..." Read review

Let there be Rock!!!! Review with images

AdvantagesIt's a Gibson!

DisadvantagesNone that I know of...it's a Gibson!

"I saw my first Gibson SG in the 80's when I went to see AC/DC during the For Those About to Rock tour (yes, unfortunately I am that old!). As I walked away from that gig I swore to myself that I would own one of those guitars one day. Twenty years later I finally realised my ambition when my brand new Gibson SG Special finally arrived on my doorstep. First the specifications: Two 490 humbucker pickups Mahogany body Rosewood fingerboard Dot ..." Read review

SG Special - a Gibson thoroughbred

AdvantagesReal Gibson Quality

DisadvantagesHeart Stopping price tag

"...play. Anyone wanting a Gibson who doesn't like the Les Paul style would do very well with one of these. The main difference between the SG and the Les Paul is that the SG has a full double cutaway, meaning that it is easier to reach the highest frets on the fingerboard, that and the lighter body makes the SG ideal for the player who is of slighter build and doesn't want a heavy guitar. Many top players have used the SG to great effect, including ..." Read review

The SG special, a Gibson at an affordable price.

AdvantagesGreat to play, great price for a USA guitar!

Disadvantageslittle details mean it doesnt look as nice as the standard.

"...wanted. Well let me introduce the Gibson SG special. Already a legend in its own right - established in the 60s now is the perfect time to buy one! For some reason there is a price drop meaning you can pick one of these babies up for around £600 new, not bad given it comes with a gig bag, and is of course a Gibson! This guitar has been around for years so the design is pretty much unchanged. The shape is nice, the head looks very ..." Read review

"...dreamed of owning a genuine Gibson Guitar. i decided to save some pennys and after a few hard months i had enough to start to look at some of the cheaper Gibson guitars and a visit to my local music store was in order! i looked at a few models but the SG special really stood out. it looked stunning and played like a dream. all the classic gibson sounds where there and the guitar is also very light. in the price range of £500-£599 this guitar should ..."
