This year saw, Glasgows Gig on the Green festival host it's second year. Last year's festival saw, Oasis and the Sterophonics headline though this year was promising to be a much bigger event. August 25th and August 26th were the days for the City to become alive, with the up n comming bands like Alien Ant Farm, to people who are just past it, like Iggy Pop. I had never been to a festival before and so naturally, I was really looking forward to standing for 12 hours solid, using portable toilets and paying £1.50 for a cup of Irn Bru. I know, stop being so god damn pessimistic...though ... more

Advantages Advantages All your favourite bands, almost in your back garden.

Disadvantages Disadvantages No Radiohead, but who said it was perfect?

Bah. Gig On The Green. Bah. I wanted to go to Reading. Bah. Gig On The Green. Who'd want to go to that when there's festivals like The Carling Weekend and V2001??? Bah. But i suppose if the parental units were offering me money to go, then i'd have to force myself. BAH! Such were my thoughts leading up to Glasgows mid-August music festival. Pessimist? Me? Never! But i assure you, as i walked through the entrance {after being prodded and poked by the ever-so-kind security guards at the gates} my feelings changed. It was sunny; it was warm; it was MUSICAL! And it was Glasgow. Festival fever hit ... more

Advantages Advantages Stereophonics, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead, FOO FIGHTERS!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Water £1.50 a cup. Yeah right. Toilets were not an option...

Fifty pounds for a two day ticket, dodging school, running from the police outside Glasgow Central Station, waiting in a line outside the venue for two hours (despite being right at the front). I distinctly remember having to repeatedly remind myself that this was going to be the best weekend ever. I wasn't dissapointed. When I entered Glasgow Green that Friday morning I couldn't recognise the place. Surrounded by fences, tents, food stalls, posters. As I mentioned my mates and I were at the very front of the line, followed by the Glasgow Alcoholic Crew (What's that about anyone under the ... more

Advantages Advantages Decent line ups for a first time festival

Disadvantages Disadvantages Disappointing that more bands from Reading won't come north

Finally, we get a music festival in Scotland, which, unlike T in the Park will ROCK! Call me old fashioned, but rock festivals should have rock bands, not Macy Gray headlining. Well, Glasgow Green, as the new baby sister to Reading and Leeds should prove to be an instant success. While it is disappointing that so few acts have been coaxed north of the border from the English festivals, the organisers have done suberbly well to assemble a formidable line-up. The Stereophonics are the highlight on Friday and Saturday will rock to the Foo Fighters' beat and sing along with Oasis. The first year ... more
