I came across this store Go Outdoors about 1 year ago when I went with my partner, he needed some new boots for work and he was told about this place from a friend of his. It is a store that sells everything to do with outdoors from coats and jackets to tents, any thing to do with camping, fishing equipment, skiing, cycling, caravanning, boots, maps every thing you need. The store we went to is in Coventry it is situated at Coventry Business Park, Canley Road, just 10 minutes from the NEC which is not to far from us. It had ample parking places, and it is open every day of the week. Monday ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages not much use if you're escaping to the sun in winter

OK, before the age of air travel it would be unthinkable to need a sunhat in January, but in Britain we've been taking foreign holidays in winter since at least the 1970's. With a Nile cruise booked for the first week of February, off I went to the Stockport store in Cheadle Heath for a sunhat. "Sorry sir, they're not in season, but we'll have them in later in the year if you'd like to call back" Thought to myself " Oh yes, good idea. I'll cancel my holiday and rebook it for July. Must fall into line with your store's stocking policy". Which part of the Soviet bloc does Go Outdoors belong to ... more

I've shopped in several GO Outdoors stores, I think they're absolutely fantastic shops, I always save money, last week I bought a Campinggaz Camp Bistro for £4.99, they're £15 in Tesco and £17 in Argos. I bought a walking pole for £2.99 and a Vango Venture 500 tent for £59!, I've seached the internet and no one sells cheaper. If they do they've got a genuine price promise where you get back 10% more! Great

I placed an order online 4 days ago and they have yet to dispatch it despite charging £5 for p&p, Customer Services were completely useless as I had a girl who just talked all over me and didn't listen for the entire call. Also sent an email to them which they have yet to acknowledge. Pretty poor in my opinion, or maybe I'm too used to companies who dispatch things quicker than you can blink or who are polite to their customers. Cheap it may be, but absolute complete rubbish imho. You're better off travelling the miles to the store than ... more

Poor customer service. Despite being told twice (on the phone and online) that my desired item was in stock at the time of ordering, almost 3 weeks on and you guessed it... nothing. I sent an e-mail to chase a few days ago but that got completely ignored. I called them today to be told that this wasn't a "stock item" so I cancelled my order and fortunately found the same deal elsewhere. I'd recommend you avoid until they get their stock system in order!!!

I went in to the Loughborough store recently and thought I was in an abandoned warehouse. The product was all in piles, and I seemed to walk through row after row of the same trousers. Nobody offered to help until I'd been wandering around for 15 minutes, and then to cap it all off they had NO BERGHAUS product in stock!!! Useless, utterly useless.

    Advantages Advantages Cheap prices

Disadvantages Disadvantages Even some of the more expensive items are rubbish

When I entered the store there were pallets of stock everywhere, only a few actually had staff even working on them mostly they were just left unattended. None of the staff acknowledge me and when I asked them where something was they mearly pointed and said "down that aisle". Getting to the aisle in question was a maze as there were boxes actually blocking the ends of some of the aisles. Finally found what I was after, staff at tills were friendly enough however when I queue built up they radioed through for help and it was very slow coming. Got home to find the tent I had bought had a broken ... more

    Advantages Advantages marginally cheaper prices

Disadvantages Disadvantages poor customer service, poor online service

It is a complete mystery to me how this store won any online retailer awards. They do not give you any information on shipping other to say order despatched. When the item ordered has not arrived they did not respond to email queries. Talking to them on the phone they claimed that the house could not be found in three attempts (the post code is for 4 houses only, easily found on any online map) - and then defended the shipping company rather than take responsibility to fix the problem. They did not ship a replacement but waited until they got the original back. I have not been on hold for more ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages They lie to you

Placed an order on 23rd May. Todate (20 June) I have still not received it. Have sent two emails, both of which were deleted before they were read! Have phoned them on two occassions, the first time to be told the one item had been dispatched and the other was out of stock, the second time (10 days later) and was told neither item had been dispatched and they would chase it up with the courier. 1 week on, still no word from them, camping holiday looming, guess I will be ringing to cancel the order. Very suprised to read from previous review that they had been voted retailer of the Year - who ... more

You realise why the prices are so cheap when you have a problem with a product. I purchased a North Face jacket which within two months developed faults. Returns policy allows replacement only within 28 days, otherwise it's back to the manfacturer which can take an indeterrminate length of time - when of course you have no jacket. As an national retailer they should try harder. I'll be sticking to the independent retailers from now on who make an effort for their customers.
