Go Outdoors

I came across this store Go Outdoors about 1 year ago when I went with my partner, he needed some new boots for work and he was told about this place from a friend of his. It is a store that sells everything to do with outdoors from coats and jackets to tents, any thing to do with camping, fishing equipment, skiing, cycling, caravanning, boots, maps every thing you need. The store we went to is in Coventry it is situated at Coventry Business Park, Canley Road, just 10 minutes from the NEC which is not to far from us. OK, before the age of air travel it would be unthinkable to need a sunhat in January, but in Britain we've been taking foreign holidays in winter since at least the 1970's. With a Nile cruise booked for the first week of February, off I went to the Stockport store in Cheadle Heath for a sunhat. "Sorry sir, they're not in season, but we'll have them in later in the year if you'd like to call back" Thought to myself " Oh yes, good idea. I'll cancel my holiday and rebook it for July. When I entered the store there were pallets of stock everywhere, only a few actually had staff even working on them mostly they were just left unattended. None of the staff acknowledge me and when I asked them where something was they mearly pointed and said "down that aisle". Getting to the aisle in question was a maze as there were boxes actually blocking the ends of some of the aisles. Finally found what I was after, staff at tills were friendly enough however when I queue built up they radioed through for help and it was very slow coming. It is a complete mystery to me how this store won any online retailer awards. They do not give you any information on shipping other to say order despatched. When the item ordered has not arrived they did not respond to email queries. Talking to them on the phone they claimed that the house could not be found in three attempts (the post code is for 4 houses only, easily found on any online map) - and then defended the shipping company rather than take responsibility to fix the problem. Placed an order on 23rd May. Todate (20 June) I have still not received it. Have sent two emails, both of which were deleted before they were read! Have phoned them on two occassions, the first time to be told the one item had been dispatched and the other was out of stock, the second time (10 days later) and was told neither item had been dispatched and they would chase it up with the courier. 1 week on, still no word from them, camping holiday looming, guess I will be ringing to cancel the order. You realise why the prices are so cheap when you have a problem with a product. I purchased a North Face jacket which within two months developed faults. Returns policy allows replacement only within 28 days, otherwise it's back to the manfacturer which can take an indeterrminate length of time - when of course you have no jacket. As an national retailer they should try harder. I'll be sticking to the independent retailers from now on who make an effort for their customers.
