Zoom in from the Heavens

Advantages: Facinating, Route planner, detail, possibilities.
Disadvantages: Not everywhere is properly mapped to a good resolution, but they will get there.

...Enter GoogleEarth. After Google took bought over a little known application called Keyhole in late 2004, they set to work googleizing it, adding more and more data, and have now released it as a free downloadable application that anyone with a half decent graphics card and a broadband connection can enjoy. Basically, GoogleEarth works as a collection of images taken from satellites all collated together so that anyone with the aforementioned technology ...
...What this means is that google had not bought up to date images of my city that gave a clear resolution of where I lived. This has since been rectified and when I put my postcode in the market actually shows directly above my bathroom window however some areas of the UK are still not as clear as they will eventually be. This is because Google have to actually buy the digital images from space from companies who have taken them and they are updating ...

I can see the pub from ere!

Advantages: Fascinating, largely accurate satellite display, 3D pictures of landmarks. Free!
Disadvantages: Still in Beta testing stage, less developed countries poorly presented. Some blurring.

...In essence, this is what Google Earth is all about. Part map of the earth part sight-seeing tour it is like the World's most interesting Geography lesson. "Google Earth" is another masterstroke from the Internet search giants. Available as a free download in it's most basic form it puts the Earth at your fingertips in a way I never thought possible. Want to see Mount St Helens in all its fearsome glory? With Google Earth it is simplicity itself. ...
...excited that Google Earth is a Broadband specific application. It takes a lot of processing power to run so anyone on dial-up would almost certainly lose the will to live waiting for it to run. However, on our Tiscali Broadband 1MB Broadband it runs no problem at all although it is as I said a memory hungry programme. As such it is not something you can toy with while browsing the net, doing your homework or playing games, not on my 256mb machine ...

A Bird's Eye View Of The World!

Advantages: Free, Hours Of Fun, Educational.
Disadvantages: Requires Certain PC Specifications, Some Blurring On Images.

It seemed as if just about everyone in my workplace was talking about a new Internet application called GoogleEarth, and so not wanting to feel left out I decided to give it a try for myself. Since downloading Internet programs at my workplace is forbidden this was done on my home PC. For those of you who have not yet heard of GoogleEarth then I will begin by saying that it a website where you can view an image of any location in the world from ...

Since it is possible to zoom right into your chosen option you can even dream that you are in a Helicopter flying over these famous landmarks that you have always longed to visit. GETTING STARTED The first thing that that you have to do when you visit the GoogleEarth website which is located at http://earth.google.com ...

Google takes on the world, and wins!!

Advantages: Awesome 3D structure, practical tool, out of BETA, surprises
Disadvantages: world not completley viewable, terror threat??

Earthly Introduction Google have created an amazing programme called Google Earth, in fact it's fair to say it's astonishing. It isn't new its been around for several years in fact, starting off in life called 'Keyhole' in 2004 and becoming the 'Earth' I know and love today. Essentially it is a 3D visual of the globe which you can literally spin around like a real globe. It opens up like you are looking at Earth from outer space with stars in the ...
...The boring technical bit Google have just released version 4.0.2722 on the 07/01/2007 and it is no longer in the public test mode, commonly known as BETA. Anyone reading this that has the old BETA version just go into the programme and click on the help button, and click on updates. It will do the rest. The minimum spec requirement is as follows:  O/S - Windows 2000/XP  Pentium 3 or 500MHZ  400MB of free HDD  3D ...

Sat-Nav for your PC

Advantages: informative and very useful indeed
Disadvantages: none at all

...have been a fan of Google Earth' for quite some time, (having uploaded a few of my images onto the site itself). It is a small program which sits harmlessly on your PC until you decide to have a look around the world…. You can download Google earth from many sites, simple 'Google' the words and you will be directed to the appropriate site… or even go to the old faithful www.downlaods.com and get it from there… it's only 12.79 MB and takes no time ...
...* WHAT IS IT..? Google Earth first came on the scene in 2003 under the name 'Earth Viewer' which was created by Keyhole Inc. Then in 2004 Keyhole Inc was taken over by Google and in 2006 the name 'Earth Viewer' was replaced by what we now know as 'Google Earth'. It uses a combination of satellite imagery, aerial photography and GIS 3d, (Geographic Information Science) to create a brilliant mapping system which lets people explore the many beauties ...

Now you can google the earth

Advantages: easy/simple interface, neat little tool
Disadvantages: slow to load, not all areas covered

Google earth is a neat little program released by the boffins at Google and it allows you to view the world from space or more specifiically satelites. Many key places in the world are shown in exceptional detail down to 200ft in places. On the other hand, other places no detail is shown. - like my grandparents town - it just appears as a blur on the map. It is a rather expansive program but even on a dial up connection i wouldnt think it takes ...
...ask you to download the google toolbar as well its not worth the effort in my opinion. The first time you run Google earth it will most likely seem like nothing has happened - this is normal - be patient, the first time, it has to connect to the googleearth servers to log you in and so on. It also has to setup default setting etc. Once you are in there are two ways to find a place. 1, click in the box at the side of the map of the earth and type ...

"You've Got The Whole Wide World, In Your Hands.."

Advantages: Comprehensive mapping, easy to use, tons of useful features...
Disadvantages: No competitors?

...it seems only right that Google do their bit for everyone else. In Google Earth they've done this with absolute aplomb. If you've ever felt like peeking over your garden fence to see what's going on in your neighbour's garden then this is for you. If you've ever thought "If only I could see that holiday resort before I actually book the hotel." then this is the application for you. If you've ever wondered whether Bush & Co. were telling the truth ...
...for you! Features Google Earth is simply fascinating. Not many things can keep a full class of 30 disgruntled 15-year-old school kids quiet and occupied for a full I.T. lesson like Google Earth. Not only is it fun and easy to use but its probably the best Geography lesson you're ever going to get while sitting at your computer during a particularly boring day at work. It's not only educational though; it's practical too. Its easy to use interface ...

Google Earth: The world's search engine, literally

Advantages: free covers the whole world fast uploading of pictures big range of features
Disadvantages: needs internet access

...first appeared on dooyoo.co.uk*** Google Earth is almost undoubtedly the most powerful programme you can get on your personal pc/laptop. Google Earth allows you to zoom in on anywhere in the world and take a look around. There are also quite a few streets now that you can view multiple photographs of. This feature is called "street view" and has landed google in a lot of trouble over privacy rights etc. On Google Earth there is even the option to ...
...of use. On the whole, Google Earth is quite easy to get the hang of. To be honest the only features you will be looking at at first is the search feature. The rest (zooming in, changing the camera angle and moving the camera) is all operated through your mouse. The more advanced controls like street view are also very easy to use. All you need to do is tick the street view boxes and then click on the picture links when you are searching. Street view ...

...even see my house! Google Earth offers much the same idea, except a thousand times better. Instead of being browser based, Google Earth (GE from now on) is a program that you download and install on your computer, and then run. All the images you view are streamed from google, they are not stored on your computer (as this would take up far, far too much space), so you must be connected to the internet in order to use it. GE has satelite photos ...

Google Earth Is Great

Advantages: Great Pictures From Anywhere InThe World
Disadvantages: Some Areas Are Blurred

Google Earth is free of the website and is a satalite image from around the world. It facinated me so much and its all for free. Although you can pay for the beter version. You can even type in a streetname and it will come up. It make you feel like you are flying over the world. Although you can buy Google Earth Plus for $20 or Google Earth Pro for $400 so pressumably those versions are upgrades from the free edition and they might be advertising a demo version to make people buy the other versions. My favorite Google program so far!!

Advantages: My new favourite Google program!
Disadvantages: Still quite new

Google Earth is a program that you have to download from the website (http://earth.google.com/). You don't need to subscribe, just download it (11.2MB, so if with a decent connection it shouldn't take longer than a couple of minutes), install it and/or run it and start playing with it. Although Google is not advertising it very much and it's still quite a new thing, this is one of the most exciting programs I have found in a while. There are different ...

You need to pay $20 for an annual registration. It may be the fact that it's not free but it is very much complete. It's faster finding places and there is more information available. The picture resolution is much clear than the free Google Earth. The problem is that ...

Disadvantages: You can spend a little too much time on it

...nifty little number by the google group is the google earth application. It allows you to see anywhere (just about) in the world via a satellite image. In its early days it was quite flawed as only the most popular areas were shown, but now everywhere is shown. You can spend hours looking at the world's greatest landmarks from the pyramids to Niagara Falls and even have a quick sneak peak at a certain Area 51! One place I found that you couldn't ...

Now if you use the google maps option on the google homepage then not only can you use maps, you can use satellite images to help you which makes finding somewhere you have never been to before far easier. This is because you now see landmarks close to where you need to be and use them as a marker, and trust me ...

...did for "supermarket". Now, google has decided to move on from the "simple search engine". The friendly people at Google inc. Labs, have made "Google earth". **--What is google earth?--** Google earth is software which allows you to see other places on earth, right from you're armchair (or wherever else you may be sitting at the time of using your computer). **--What is so useful about Google earth?--** Let's face it- Those clever little eggheads ...
