Advantages Advantages Easily accessible yet complex enough to appeal to a wide audience

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough cars, too few tracks, can get repetitive

GT…two little letters that, some might argue, separate the normal, humdrum, everyday motor car, from the elite, the pinnacle of engineering, the most tub-thumping driving experience you’re ever going to have. A ‘GT’ badge on the back of your car symbolises something, it makes a statement about your car and, more importantly, its owner…. GT actually stands for ‘Gran Turismo’. The publishers, Polyphony Digital, of this third iteration of the game of the same name have really taken the whole ‘GT’ ethos on-board, to create this snarling, tyre ... more

Advantages Advantages Looks divine, faultless game-engine, incredible speed and smoothness, fantastic track-design and huge lifespan

Disadvantages Disadvantages Still too much emphasis on licence tests, less cars than in previous instalments, only two new circuits, A.I still a bit suspect

The original Gran Turismo, released back in 1998 on the PSOne, was a remarkable piece of software. Not only dwarfing Namco’s brilliant Ridge Racer franchise, it dragged the racing genre back to the very forefront of console gaming. With its now-trademark glossy visuals, incredible depth and design, it became an instant classic. Gran Turismo 2 continued the good work when it hit our shores in early 2000, but by this point people were immediately looking forward to seeing what the industries most realistic driving simulation would be like on a next-generation console. One year further down the ... more

Advantages Advantages Simply the best console racing game there is

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not one

Maybe few of us gamers realised it at the time, but December 1997 was to mark a pivotal moment in the evolution of gaming as we knew it. An unknown game developer named Kazunori Yamauchi set about creating a different kind of racing game, a game where the cars looked and performed as they would in the real world and the scenery at the various race track locations looked lifelike and believable. This game was called Gran Turismo and was available on the original Playstation console, there was one more Gran Turismo game released for the PSX before 2001 saw the release of Gran Turismo 3 A-spec ... more

Advantages Advantages Endless gameplay, a classic

Disadvantages Disadvantages You will never complete it!

As I can hardly contain my excitement (no really i can't I've had to install a piss bag! Sorry!) waiting for GT4 I thought I'd write a review for the best driving game ever (NB: change at Xmas for GT4). And at the end of this month my beloved GT3 will be 3 years old. So Yey! Anyway for those that don't know GT3 is the outstanding driving simulation game from Polyphony, which follows on from GT and GT2 originally on Playstation original. It was released July 31st 2001 (2years late but nevermind) and is the biggest selling driving game ever, and definately one of the biggest selling games of all ... more

Now I would class myself as a cynical gamer. I scoff at the Canadians releasing FIFA 2008, and even laugh in derision when Peter Molyneux keeps the gullible populace on the edge of their seats waiting for a glorified Pokemon game. But for some reason my appitite for Gran Turismo never wanes. Admittedly GT3 is technically just an update, but to paraphrase Carly Simon, “Nobody does it better.” Countless man hours are lost, relationships are stretched to breaking, all for this, this bubble of sensory deprivation formed around the GT player at the wheel of this quite majestic game. There are bad ... more

Advantages Advantages Gorgroues, huge, lots to do

Disadvantages Disadvantages GT4 wipes the floor with it

The daddy of racing sims jumped onto the PS2 in style with this fantastically detailed gorgeously good looking and hugely impressive game in 2001. The first 2 games of the series lay the ground work for this to improve to such a standard that at the time I personally thought the game couldn't be bettered as a racing simulation, though the future proved it could with the immensely impressive GT4 that was released in 2005. For those of you unsure on the GT series, the games are to motor car fans what other games have yet to fully replicate. The games major single player mode is myriad of races ... more

When the original Gran Turismo hit the Playstation a few years back it set new standards for console racing game. It featured tons of licensed cars and limitless customization options usually only found in PC games. It went on to become one of the PS's best selling titles of all time. Then came Gran Turismo 2 which added more cars and tracks as well as rally racing. Many bashed it though for being too similar to the first game. It also didn't help any that Sony rushed the game out to make it out before Christmas of 99. This rush job resulted in some nasty glitches included one which deleted ... more

Despite still being roughly new in the market, there are quite a few good games for the PSX2. The system enjoys boasting its superior graphics and awesome capabilities with games such as Dynasty Warriors 2 and Kessen. Nevertheless, there hasn’t been a game yet with enough dept that it became the sole reason to own a PSX2. That is, until now. Long awaited Gran Turismo 3 was finally released in the US in July 10th, and it’s by far the greatest racing game to hit the console. This statement was also made for its predecessors. The original Gran Turismo was called the greatest, but people had their ... more

When it comes to driving in that thing called real-life it may shock you to find out that I can’t do it, well I can, but I still haven’t gone as far as getting that piece of paper that you need to do it legally, however that doesn’t stop me hurtling around hairpin bends at speeds of over 200 kmph and putting a level 4 Turbo in my Gillet Vertigo Race Car - but all of this is done from the comfort of my own home, How you ask - well through Gran Turismo 3 on my lovely little Playstation2 of course. Now I’m not one for driving games usually but when I finally got my grubby little hands on the ... more
